  1. I like the fact he knows how to run businesses successfully. I also like the fact that he's more concerned with the US than other countries. Don't know enough about him to comment one way or the other regarding him running for president, but I think he'd fearlessly address the issues facing us right now.
  2. The refurb first gen 3g @ 64Gb is a SICK deal. the nice thing about the 3G is that you can 'pay as you go' month to month, so if they wanted to travel and use the 3G (streaming Netflix, for example), they could pay $25 for 2GB of data and use it on vacation or similar. Then, when the month is up or the data is used up, not renew, and they're done until they want more data access...
  3. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chibrknews-illinois-court-ruling-backs-gun-owners-from-other-states-20110408,0,3859023.story?track=rss It's the right ruling, but I'm shocked...
  4. The point was you were proposing that we enact new legislation in order to make something difficult for law-abiding citizens in order to stop criminals from getting guns. It's like a page right out of the Brady Bunch handbook - it's fantasy to assume it would stop criminals. And seriously, if your panties are in a wad over this discussion, maybe the internet isn't your thing...
  5. Yah, hadn't thought of that - if you can still score a MB292LL/A (first gen, 16GB wifi iPad) it'll be $400 or less...
  6. Note - if you order it from Apple, shipping is free.
  7. Hahahah, BURN! Y'all be nice to Mike, he's a good guy.
  8. You reckon that's why he mentioned GM, Ford and Chrysler? He's thinking dude can just trade his 8mpg vehicle for an efficient vehicle straight up at the dealership?
  9. Do the math - going from 8mpg to 32mpg would take YEARS to break even, unless you travel more than the average person does. 15k miles @ 8mpg = 1875 g gas @ 3.5/g = $6562.50 in fuel/year. 15k miles @ 32mpg = 468.75g gas @ 3.5/g = $1640.63 in fuel/year So you save roughly $5k/year in fuel costs (assuming you only get 8mpg in the first place (which is rare)). What's the delta on a replacement vehicle? I mean, if one can't afford $3.50 gas, how is it logical to assume they can afford a monthly car note? I'm guessing someone complaining about gas prices isn't going to pay cash for a new car...
  10. Seriously - you think more laws that act as controls for law abiding citizens is the answer? I suppose you think that if we banned guns outright there'd be no gun crime, too...
  11. Shows how ridiculous the two parties 'efforts' are to control spending. Let's see if the GOP can really make a u-turn and follow Ryan's lead...
  12. Agree, and I'm hopeful you're right. 2012 will be telling...
  13. I'll believe there's real change in the GOP when I see it. There's always been a small handful who did things right, but unless the party as a whole changes radically, nothing will change. While Ryan is on the right path, let's not forget that before this the GOP had talked of cutting $61B from a budget that's well over $1T in the red. Again, I'll happily jump behind them when they actually do something positive for the economy. They're done quite a bit of damage over the last 30 years, I'm not ready to clap them on the back and declare them our saviors just because a handful of them proposed something...
  14. This was my point. We all have things that frustrate or concern us, but the economy is the #1 threat to this country, and neither party is doing anything to deal with it. They've both chosen to ignore and even exacerbate this issue over the last 30 years. Hence my point - they're cut from the same cloth.
  15. Yah, I agree allowing business owners to search employee's cars is bad form. No question there.
  16. This. I swore off my allegiance to the GOP years ago when it became plainly obvious they were cut from the same cloth.
  17. Yah, that 'tax the rich' stuff pisses me off, when nearly half this country is already comprised of freeloaders wrt federal income tax. Punish us for being successful. Brilliant. Elections should happen on April 16th.
  18. Nice thing about Manhattan is that you have to really look to find a bad meal - competition and overhead is so fierce, pretty much anywhere you stop to grab a bit will be killer.
  19. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you, but will make this point then leave you alone. Companies are owned by people - even large corporations are owned by the share holders. In most cases, in the US, businesses are owned by individuals who are the ones who own the property - no different than their home. I think a homeowner has every right to tell me they don't want me carrying on their property and feel business owners should have that same right - it's their land. And their choice to not allow firearms does not deprive you of your right or ability to defend yourself. A firearm is simply a tool and frankly, if that's the only tool in your toolbox you have to defend yourself, that's not your employer's problem. I think both sides of this issue suck, but at the end of the day, I think the property owner should have the right to determine what others bring on his property, whether that be in a car (your property), a backpack (your property), etc. For the record, I wish you luck - I have zero restrictions wrt weapons for my employees, so this won't affect me either way. I'm just making the point that the 'rights' here can be seen from both sides.
  20. I completely understand your argument, but you don't have to work there. As someone who has the government telling me tons of things I can or cannot do on my property, I'm just not keen for them to tell me one more thing I'd have to allow were it against my will. Agree to disagree, I guess.
  21. You have to realize that there are a number of folks (myself included) who are on the fence about this - I completely understand your desire for such a law, but as a business owner, I'm not interested in more laws that tell me what I can or cannot do on my property.
  22. Very nice, nicemac. You staining that? It's definitely stain-worthy..
  23. GREAT detail work - give me more!
  24. Yah, some really nice projects! I finished up a 'built in' bookshelf / entertainment center last year for the wife- I love wood working, but don't really typically have the time for bigger projects (this one took a while)... Next big project is a new enclosed patio for the rear of the house...
