"Does anyone have a towel and some spare shorts?"
-
Yah, well, if they come in significantly cheaper, I'll buy some of those, too! Mags will be one of those things that get scarce if things go south in the elections...
-
Possibly (had I been paying attention) - these are $14 each shipped. What's the price on the group buy?
-
So I figured i might as well jump in with both feet, so I just ordered 1k rnds of .556 as well as 10 Magpul 30 rnd PMAGs. Now I need to find someone locally selling good lowers so I can get started in earnest. Anyone selling lowers in the Memphis area?
-
Indeed. This, for me, is my first AWB rifle and one that I need to get NOW. I'll probably also get something in .308 - the 7.62 is a good round but the .223/.308 combo pretty much covers all you bases...

what is on your adult beverage menu for the evening?
G27 replied to Mike.357's topic in General Chat
This evening it's Lucifer Belgian Pal Ale, Dogfish Head IPA90, and Stone Ruination. Lovely evening! -
So, how are the Anvil lowers? Is there a reason look at any others?
-
Hahahaha, yah, as if the government is the model of efficiency at anything...

90 business days is 18 weeks (126 actual days), assuming they use the typical gub'ment work week...

OK, it had been a few years since I handled an SKS or an AK and after doing so at Classic Arms (hi Chance), I've decided I can't tolerate the build quality (and friggen weight) of the SKS or AK (especially including the ammo), so I've officially decided to do an AR in .223. I know you'll all sleep better tonight knowing this, so I thought I'd share. You're welcome.
-
We'll see, but from everything I hear it's hard to find much of anything other than beef jerky and camo t-shirts at the gun shows any more. Yah, I called Classic and am going to go talk to Chance this afternoon. FWIW, I talked to Sean @ Brighton about 3 weeks ago and he still had two Saiga's in .308. Pretty tempting. Never had any desire to go to a pawn shop, but it might be worth a look. If I can get a rack grade SKS for a decent price, I'll probably grab it, seems like it would be a fun project to get cleaned up and working nicely. Saiga's are always spoken of highly, might need to head up to Brighton and grab one of those 7.62X51's as well...

RangeUSA doesn't carry them, and I haven't been to Classic Arms since I bought my G22 - where should I look for a nice SKS (or AK) in the Memphis area?

Any feeding problems by using the external magazine? I've only seen this a few times and most everyone had feeding issues now and then with them..

TFA makes Jimmy Nafeh the issue for 2008

What can we do to get this clown out of there? -
Great, thanks for the head's up.
-
Hrm, hadn't heard that - which one is it? Any more info on it? Thanks, BTW!
-
Yah, which is why the mention of the SKS made me stop and consider those. I had one back in the early 90's and it was fun to shoot, accurate enough, tough as nails, etc. If i coudl find a decent condition Ruusiian SKS now, I'd likely snap one up, but don't know where to look. I suppose the Chinese SKS's would be good as well. I just need to make a decision and move forward before it's too late...
-
That's actually a good point, too. While I like the elegance of the AR design, I'm def not into the 'tacticool' stuff lots of folks seem to be into. And like you, i doubt i'll get to spend very much time shooting it as there aren't really many options for shooting a decently powered rifle in our area. SKS, hrmm, not a bad idea at all...
-
Aww, crap, that's a great point, too. Even in a SHTF scenario, it's unlikely I'm going to be doing any thing remotely resembling military maneuvers - it'll be a long-arm to help thwart issues from the home more than anything else... Argh - this decision is infuriating.
-
Stick it in the programmable safe.
-
That's my point about 'reliability' in the OP - I need something that will not only work in adverse conditions but will still work for thousands of rounds if I have to BO in a SHTF situation and get separated from some of my cleaning stuff. I keep my Glock perfectly clean, but I also know I can run it for a long time without cleaning and it will perform - that's what I want in a rifle. Looks like a Saiga 7.62x39 is the way to go, along with plenty of hi-cap mags. I'll add a good AR lower to that (along with some AR mags) as well for the future...
-
Indeed, excellent point. That may be the ticket after all. FAL looks to be the Glock of the rifle world, though lugging a bunch of .308 ammo a round isn't a pleasant thought (and I'm a pretty big guy)...
-
Sure - that's my eventual plan, but for now I need to get one and I want to make the purchase under the guise that it might (for whatever reason) be the only one I get.
-
Dangit, I've vacillated long enough and nee to move on something NOW as I just know that this fall, regardless of what happens, black rifles will sky-rocket in price (and who knows what else after that). I need a good rifle for fun and for SHTF (any type requiring a weapon), and here's how I see it based on reading and talking to folks: AR pros: light weight (both weapon and ammo), accuracy, availability of parts, lack of over-penetration. AR cons: relative cost (not a biggie) including cost of ammo, needs cleaning after every other round fired (kidding, but only a bit), lack of penetration. AK pros: inexpensive (both weapon and ammo), reliability, penetration. AK cons: heavy (both weapon and ammo), lack of accuracy, over-penetration. Basically, I love the fact that the AK can shoot through car doors and doesn't require meticulous cleaning (I'm a Glock owner, for perspective), but I like the AR for it's portability and accuracy. If someone would convince me that the AR platform isn't an finicky as some folks make them out to be I generally prefer the elegance of the AR over the brute-force approach of the AK. I'm willing to spend the dough on the right parts for an AR if it can remotely approach the AK's reliability. Will also consider other options, such as the Sig556 if I can be convinced it will bridge the perceived gap between the AR and the AK. Help a brother out...
