You've displayed an enormous lack of knowledge regarding property rights in this very thread - you don't even understand licensing - but feel free to act as if it's some sort of civil disobedience, if that helps you sleep better at alight. You claim to be honest but also act as if theft is somehow ok. You rationalize and even condone it (at least imply it), so when I call your behavior out, you decide to walk away... Stay, go, whatever - it's not like you were approaching the discussion with an open mind - you had preconceived ideas regarding what you want to believe so your choices can be rationalized and you aren't going to change any time soon. Maybe when you shoot a kILLER photo, decide to sell it only to find it later being used by others all over the place, some for profit, some not, but with zero compensation for your work, you'll change your mind. The reality is the relative moralism you display in this thread is fundamentally what is wrong in this country. It's amazing to me that you cannot see that. Hopefully someday you'll understand property rights.

Actually, YOU are totally wrong - you don't purchase the 'rights to that property' - you simply purchase a LICENSE. Big difference, though du to your rather unbelievable rationalizations I'm certain that will be lost on you. Hahaha, it's COMPLETELY different. If you could instantaneously create a clone of that weed eater and hand it out to folks, you wouldn't agree that the CREATOR of that item in question should get paid for that CLONE of the original? For someone supposedly working in the digital realm (graphics), I'm rather surprised at how little you appear to know about it.

I imagine it's due to safety - I can't imagine the relatively small investment in the lighting and installation isn't worth it if it saves one officers life. I do like that I can see them from long distances now - especially on the interstate. It allows me plenty of time to move over from the lane they're adjacent to to give them space.

Oh boo-hoo - you're really going to rationalize theft because of YOUR choices? Good grief. It's called the free-market - if they cannot survive under their current model, they'll go away. Just because you cannot afford the software doesn't mean it's over-priced. Your thievery only helps undermine the free market, congratulations. So if a person makes >$x, they don't deserve to paid any more for their work? Have you really thought that through or are you just feeling sorry for yourself and rationalizing your own behavior? If you're simply swapping DVD's, no copies kept on your machine, then it's no problem. Otherwise you're not only condoning stealing, you're a thief, regardless of what your 'opinion' is. And here we go with more class warfare. You think the multi-millionaire CEO type is more affected / worried by this or the guy who had to close his studio because the label budgets have dropped due to lack of sales? The percentage of industry folks who can't feed their kids based on your 'model' is pretty large. You can rationalize being a scumbag thief all you want, but it won't change the facts.

First, I have zero bootlegs or illegal copies of anything, period. But to answer the former question - it's far, far worse than it's ever been before. Think about the ease of theft now - you don't have to copy it in real time, you aren't getting a 'generation down' copy like you would via analog - the copy is an exact clone of the original and can be distributed to literally anyone and everyone (with internet access) on earth in seconds. I cut a single for a band last year that was one of the top selling songs of the year. The numbers we're hearing right now is that there's an approximate 10:1 ratio of illegal copies to legal ones (based on a sampling questionnaire of who has the song vs the number sold). 10x as many illegal copies - the same exact song as the one you may have purchased - out there illegally. It's a massive problem, without question. All you have to do is look beneath the surface at sales numbers and it's plainly obvious. A couple of years ago, Nickelback had a smash hit record - they literally released eight singles off the record, which is astonishing success - yet the last time I checked they had sold 2 million copies. 10 years ago, any record that had two successive #1's in the pop music market would go Diamond, at least (that's 10M copies sold), much less a record so successful they could go eight singles deep... Now for the numbers: In the decade of the 90's (91-00) there were 48 records which achieved Diamond sales status in the US In the decade of the 00's (01-10) there were five records that achieved Diamond sales Status, and there have been none since 2004. If a band as successful as Nickelback is hurt by this, imagine the legions of artists, engineers, and support staff that have had to close shop because people have no problem stealing their property...

First, I think that's a mis-characterization of SOPA. That said, I've not read enough on it yet to form a valid opinion. What's sad is there's an outcry over this, yet never a peep from anyone about this rampant thievery. It's no problem until it lands in their back yard. He makes a good point here: Quit Whining About SOPA and PIPA. Where's the Public Outrage Over Internet Piracy? - Seattle Music - Reverb Again, I'm not saying I support SOPA - I'm saying it's a good thing we're talking about it as I'm sick to death of dirtbag thieves taking food of the table of my friends and clients.

SOMETHING has to be done about the rampant theft of IP on the internet. People are losing their jobs - entire industries are being undermined to dangerous levels, all because people thinks it's 'ok' to be a low life thief. And yeah, if you download a song, movie or software you didn't pay for you're no different than any other scumbag thief.
-
I've not decided if SOPA is good or bad, but I wonder what IP copyright holders should do about the rampant theft of their property on the internet? IP theft is a serious issue, and copyright laws exist for a reason. If there's no method for enforcement, then what?

Assuming he doesn't see massive traffic and is remotely handy wrt html, he could do that for about $7/month.

With the general movement towards more freedoms wrt firearms in the last decade or so, I believe you may be right. I think they're desperate and are paying this guy to push the limits in order to generate public sympathy for more anti-gun laws.

Yup, got what he deserved, zero question. Play stupid games... -
Wonder how long before we start hearing the term 'undocumented voters'...

The final BCS rankings come out in early December - the BCS exists only to rank #1 and #2 in the BCSCG.

Well, it's deeper than that wrt who gets custody of a child when a parent dies, etc. Not to mention that if one state recognizes a gay civil union, but another state does not, what happens if they move to the other state (work, whatever)? I'm NOT a federal power guy (at all) - I'm a strict constitutionalist - but there's a lot more to civil unions than just tax breaks and who gets what in divorce proceedings. I don't have an answer for this, just pointing out the complexity of the issue. -
Because the want it. And those 'wasteful rich' generate more jobs than most any of us could ever hope to via their 'wastefulness'. That's nice. I have no idea how much money the super rich donate to charity, though I suspect many would be surprised to find how generous they (generally) are.

A friend who is, ahem, 'close' to the staff told me they broke down every offensive play LSU called in the last five years...

I'm a religious person and I agree with you 100%. People like him are dangerous. -
Just watched this tonight. Aside from the ending, loved it.

Nope, I've honestly gotten old enough I don't enjoy the big games like I used to. I prefer sitting at home with the big screen, eating and drinking what I want, peeing in my own bathroom, etc...

I'm pretty sure the schools pay for it. I heard traveling and ticket costs for the band this year alone is close to $1m. The courts have ruled that the NCAA and BCS, being voluntary membership organizations, aren't held liable under anti-trust laws. It's a collection of teams that got together and decided to have their own system, just like the NCAA. Complaining about it is chic, but it's gotten it right far more than it's gotten it wrong and is far better than the pre-BCS years when were were lucky to get a 1v2 bowl matchup. The problem is no matter what you change it to, people will bitch and moan.

Yah, I didn't think it was, just clarifying. Though I have heard that situation repeated over the years amongst people, surely just hearsay.
