  1. Well stay out of Memphis! I'm glad I live far enough away to be fine if things go south...
  2. Best advice I've heard (for Memphis folks): if involved in a shooting, ask for medical attention. All potential gunshot victims are directed to the Med, which has an average non-emergency wait of 18 hours. Plenty of time for your adrenaline to go away and for you to collect your thoughts, talk to your atty, etc. I would call my long-time council (whom I don't believe handles criminal cases) and ask for a referral. I've also got DoubleAfterSplit's number on the back of my attorney's biz card...

  4. Well, sorta. Reagan stopped the FD back in the 80's...
  5. Have you guys even read what the FD is about? It doesn't mean everyone gets to get on air for free. "[The Fairness Doctrine] did not require equal time for opposing views, but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows or editorials." (synopsis from Wikipedia) Seriously - this in NO WAY limits freedom of speech - in fact, it makes sure that the broadcasting entities can't force their views on the public (utilizing the publicly owned airwaves) without presenting the dissenting point of view.

    Great sign

  7. The FD only applies to the FCC - not what you can say when or where you want to, only broadcast. If your views can be heard via broadcast, why can't someone else's? Assuming you're aware that we, as citizens, own the airwaves the FCC licenses... Free speech means everyone gets their chance - you can turn the dial/turn it off anytime you want to. Its your choice to listen, but should be everyone's choice to speak. That's what free speech is about. As long as the gov't owns/partially funds broadcasting, we have to insure everyone gets fair time.
  8. The Fairness Doctrine has nothing to do with limiting freedom of speech, but rather the FCC's ability to insure that all sides have equal time when principles/viewpoints are being discussed. If anything, the FD insures everyone has their First Amendment rights available to them (via broadcast)...
  9. Duh - why do you think we haven't found him yet?
  10. I have relatives all over Winchester and get great coverage everywhere but on top of Keith Springs Mountain (nobody gets coverage up there that's I've seen). Go for it - you won't regret it...
  11. Except the problem then was that no one wanted to borrow money - there was plenty of credit. With the way so many Americans live today (leveraged to the hilt chasing the false pretense of wealth), we're in a far worse position to climb out of this than we were 80 years ago...
  12. The asian markets are taking a beating right now as well (Japan's Nikkei index dropped almost 10% yesterday alone, China's SSE index is down over 10% in the last week) - as long as the US accounts for about 20% of the world's GDP, we'll be a major player. I, for one, would love to see a return to more protectionism to curb the flood of cheap imports. Between that and a more isolationist foreign policy, we'd be fine.
  13. Marcus Luttrell is a good guy, saw the video of his speech at the NRA a while back, I'll see if I can find it... http://vodpod.com/watch/744315-marcus-luttrell-at-the-nra
  14. All the bad governmental policies in the world didn't cause this - the lack of personal responsibility did. The very fact that we (collectively) are still pointing fingers shows that we haven't learned the lesson and it will have to be taught again, soon. You can make this about politics all you want, but the bad policies only made it easier for folks to follow through on their bad decisions...
  15. I'm not scared, but I did go ahead and order the rest of my AR15 parts from Anvil Arms the other day...
  16. Yah, I felt Obama 'won' the first debate, but McCain is doing much better here. Obama is stammering more...
  17. Great seats - I'm jealous. Stuck @ home. Go Bama! Roll Tide!
  18. Perhaps, but I actually watched the whole thing and decided for myself. Novel idea, I know.
  19. Honestly, I can't imagine voting for either, but I also can't see how anyone couldn't see how Obama won this one...
  20. RIP Mars, and condolences to his family. This place won't be the same without him...
  21. Welcome! If you're heading to Winchester, make sure you stop by and see Joe @ HeroGear!
  22. Just remember that the more powerful 7.62 round is a double-edged sword, so to speak - penetration is a big issue...
  23. Olympic even makes a .40S&W upper that accepts Glock mags! Not that I'd spend that when I already have my toy Sub2k...
