Subject: Memorial Service: you're invited. We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services. I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers. Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them. I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat. Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made. Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . " at which point my heart skipped. At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped. I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland , into Arnhem ." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day. I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say. I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach. He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this. Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer. There was no parade. No big event in Staples Center . No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage. No weeping fans on television. And that's not right. Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet way. Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans. Rest in peace, Shifty. "A nation without heroes is nothing." (Roberto Clemente)

What we're up against - the anti crowd
G27 replied to S&WForty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Does anyone have any proof that someone OC'ing actually becomes a target? Has anyone OC'ing ever been targeted during a crime? Curious, just asking. I don;t OC but I see this argument all the time. I don't recall ever hearing of a situation where someone OC'iong was targeted. -

Sounds like your 'friend' is a republican, not a conservative... -
This question is one that bothers me the most - we've been told specifically that a punch in the nose (even resulting in a broken nose) was not 'serious bodily injury'. That being said, I've seen many people dropped with one punch (unconscious), which renders one completely defenseless, even for a short time... Obviously, I avoid situations like this whenever possible (I've not been into a physical altercation since I was in high school), but sometimes altercations can't be avoided.

I'm thinking he's not so good with 'the math'. Why would you brag about finding ammo at a higher price/round?
-
Thanks. I like you less now, of course.

Yah, God forbid we have a president who acts with a little class (not that W was a shining example of that, either). I want a president who walks around the White House in his underwear swilling beer from the can - yes! And for the record, the 'lady' Obama can't seem to avoid looking at, even at a photo op at the G8 Summit, is 17 years old. Stay classy, Obama!

Two things that always dissuade me from using solar power: 1] they begin to degrade (less power output) almost immediately upon installation, and 2] if solar power is that good, why don't the plants that make the solar panels run on solar panels? Maybe some day, but aside from SHTF use, I'm avoiding it for now.

GREAT speech, thanks for posting.

Thanks, beefcake.

Thanks for posting. I've never seen this sort of fearful attitude amongst even a marginal percentage of the voter base before. This one is different...

Hrmm, airsoft might just work - hadn't thought of that - thanks! Really ned to be cowboy as for his birthday we're redoing his room in cowboy theme...
-
hahaha "Stop crying like a baby! Your shoulder is fine!" Honestly, this is purely for decoration in his room, so a recreation is fine. I've just had trouble finding something that looks authentic (wear and tear is fine) and isn't outrageously expensive...

For those interested, I'm mirroring this on my server as well: http://crimsonaudio.net/guns/Armorers_handbook_11.pdf

Real would be ideal, but either is fine, honestly - I just can't seem to find the right search queries to find them. Any hints?

Lou Pritchett is one of corporate America 's true living legends- an acclaimed author, dynamic teacher and one of the world's highest rated speakers. Successful corporate executives everywhere recognize him as the foremost leader in change management. Lou changed the way America does business by creating an audacious concept that came to be known as "partnering." Pritchett rose from soap salesman to Vice-President, Sales and Customer Development for Procter and Gamble and over the course of 36 years, made corporate history. AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA Dear President Obama: You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you. You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support. You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American. You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll. You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.. You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others. You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail. You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America ' crowd and deliver this message abroad. You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector. You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one. You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves. You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world. You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations. You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals. You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people. You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient. You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do. You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view. You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing. Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years. Lou Pritchett

No, I'm not, as I'd further suggest the big boys who plaster the internet with tough-guy talk of another revolution are the guys who either won't do a thing if the time ever comes where it's necessary or they're (place tinfoil hat squarely on head) government plants hoping to figure out who is a 'radical extremist'. Indeed, there's plenty of chatter among 'anonymous' big boys on the internet, but those aren't likely the folks who will act should push ever come to shove...

I'm not advocating anything, fwiw, nor am I trying to create a straw-man argument here by placing words in your mouth, but if - IF - things got completely out of whack wrt the US Constitution and our freedoms were disappearing right and left, would you not be willing to fight to protect your rights? Or are you simply saying you are unwilling to discuss that here? Again, not trying to step on toes here, and if you don't even want to talk about that possibility I'm (obviously) going to be fine with it as you are gracious enough to allow us to hang here in your 'living room' - just curious.
