I inherited this gun from my younger brother who passed away too young back in 2005. He loved his guns and had a small collection of unusual pieces like this one. Its a 1911-A1 USGI build in 45ACP. The gun has an interesting history from what I can gather. After WWII the US sold USGI 1911’s to foreign governments that were never used. In the 60's-70's Interarms bought up the unused stock and tried to import them back into the US. They were not permitted to re-import the frames (most were Remington Rand guns) so they stripped the parts and had them fitted to American made frames back in Alexandria VA. From what I can gather the frames were supplied by Essex Arms. This gun is a good shooter that I keep in my jeep “just in case”. As long as you keep it clean ..it runs great and shoots to point of aim. Not bad for a gun with most of the parts over 60 years old! Mods made include new barrel, new recoil spring, new commander style hammer, new barrel bushing, smoothed out the trigger bar, polished the feed ramp, polished internals and had the gun professionally Cerakoted in bronze and black. I don't believe they still make these grips for the Ruger GP100 but scored a set off ebay recently. I highly recommend them if you have one of these revolvers. The grip angle is much better than the Hogue's they come with from the factory. And they look good too.

Triggers are smooth as silk on these two (after very light polishing of internals with mothers mag polish) and both have custom grip panels. They shoot great! Tried a bunch of different grips but keep coming back to the factory rubber ones. Would like to add a Smith to replace my model 19 nickel I foolishly sold though. But they are nice revolvers. One with darker grips I've had since 1992 and the lighter grips belong to a 2014 model. thanks for looking! I

I had the commander size and it was very accurate. If I had to do over..would have bought the full size model.

Looks great! I would definitely complete the job and you will have an awesome looking rifle. Any tips you care to share..been thinking about painting mine.

I have carried many in my endless and expensive quest to find my perfect carry gun. Right now I like the Shield as its very easy to shoot accurately. My all time favorite is a SIG 239 in 40SW. Simply an outstanding shooter and very accurate. I better keep looking though.... my dream carry gun is out there somewhere! :rofl:

    LOL! I did not know! I do have proper eye relief but I kept wondering why it was so difficult to adjust this mount. I must be getting more senile than I thought.  DUH! :stunned:

good points..I should have stated up them front   no stock preference... blued or stainless  detachable magazine 200 yards to 600 yards glass not part of the $800 sturdy but smooth bolt I guess reliability and accuracy would be the two main objectives   I don't know much about the CZ but have shot other Savage rifles and they were very accurate. That Savage from Buds looks real nice for the money.

Looking for an accurate rifle that will serve as a target/range rifle. Any recommendations would be appreciated.   thanks!

    +1   I feel this way also. If I'm in the boonies I have a mini 14 in the jeep and a 1911 in a GI shoulder holster with extra mags. If I was back in Arizona I would be carrying both when in the boonies!
