Pretty good article. Both of my older grand children, age 12 and 15 compete in 4-H competitions and are capable of putting venison on the table also. The 15 year old is my only grand daughter. It is very simple, teach them when they are young, whether it be the Bible or gun safety and they will not depart from it. It was driven into my head at an early age, started hunting by myself at 9, but dad knew I was safe and I knew there would have been some severe consequences if I had been unsafe with a gun. I am retired now, and I like to fish, and hunt, but there is something unique about going out and shooting clays or shooting targets with a pistol. Nothing compares it to me. The smell of gunpowder and the satisfaction that I can cut a card with a pistol of rifle some of time anyways is very enjoyable. Take a kid shooting, teach them gun safety, if you don't have a kid or grand kid nearby, find a single mom or a family that doesn't have the time or desire to shoot. I think all kids should at least have a chance to learn how to safely shoot and then let them decide if they want to continue. Just like I did with my son for sports, I told him I would support him and pay for the equipment as long as he wanted to and had fun. I hate to see parents push their kids into sports for their own ego.

Powder for reduced muzzle flash AR pistol
Dirtshooter replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Well I shot it in indoor range over the holidays and had some plinking stuff, and there were some that had hardly any flash, but most had large flamethrower flashes. I don't know what the ammo that had much flash were, maybe some a friend had loaded or?? So I do know that there is some powder with little flash. Thanks for comments. Mac -
Hi guys, does anyone reload for AR pistol 5.56? I am looking something with as little muzzle flash as possible. I use IMR-4895 and it is pretty bright out of 10.5 inch barrel. Any comments appreciated. Thanks Mac

Exactly why I say more gun laws won't make a difference to criminals, just the law abiding public. 10 years won't solve the problem either, a public hanging with the news crew filming it would have some solutions!! Thank you Defender, I wouldn't be an LE if it paid $1,000 per hour. Glad the outcome was good for you.

Senators Introduce New (2019) Assault Weapons Ban
Dirtshooter replied to TGO David's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ya'll do know the difference in a Democrat and a Republican? 0, absolutely nothing. They are politicians, if their lips are moving, really good chance they are lying. The liberal left and the "conservative right" yeah right. The republicans have done absolutely nothing to make good laws. Oh you do know that if they make a law all the criminals will automatically obey them. Just like they are now obeying all the gun laws and such on the books. Even the illegal aliens are obeying the law and are not crossing the border illegally. I was thinking today that Pelosi and Schumer would have been tarred & feathered then hung for treasonist acts against the U.S.A. But that was back when the PEOPLE actually did run the country. Sorry for the long rant guys. Fed up with the whole flippin lot of them. My chickens are more valuable than the politicians, they give me eggs, cluck at me when they see me coming and they give me valuable fertilizer for my garden. -
Clueless teens, 17, baffled by a rotary phone
Dirtshooter replied to xsubsailor's topic in General Chat
Sure makes me feel old. Oh the rotary dial phone, and the party line. Hey Murgatroy I still have the flexible allen tool to set the points on a GM vehicle with window in distributor cap. This reminds me of the story of the gentleman that left his keys in his 1956 Chevy at the parts store and some Hispanic guys stole it, drove across town and paid $10 for gas but could not figure out where the gas filler door was. They left walking and the owner got his car back. Just like a 3 on the tree standard shift, most people under 40 would scratch their heads and go, Huh. -
Hi all, looking for .22 competition within 1,000 miles of here. LOL Seriously I have looked and looked on the net and I can't find anything. There is a rimfire add on to USPSA steel challenge at Dead Zero but looking for a true all rimfire competition. Not particularly interested in benchrest. Thanks Mac

I sure most here agree that we don't need any more gun laws as criminals continue to break laws everyday. Just remember that if you give them an inch they will take a mile. I have read several comments in the past from folks in the UK and Australia warning Americans not to cave in and give an inch. We all do need to contact our elected officials and voice our concerns. Tell them to look at places like Chicago, New York and other places with stringent gun laws and people are being killed each and every day. To me that proves that the gun laws are not effective in curtailing crime. Kinda like the wall on previous post by Ronald, it won't keep people out, it may slow them down but that is all.

Steve Dickerson (R-Nashville) to Introduce Red Flag Bill
Dirtshooter replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't post a lot but let's face it, there are plenty of gun laws on the books now that aren't being abided by the crooks and thugs. Look at the facts, when I was a kid in the 50' & 60's you didn't hear about folks shooting up schools. The AR's made in the 60's are just like the ones made now, they haven't changed. PEOPLE have changed. Start by putting God and prayer back in schools, whipping a kid's butt if he/she needs it, ban all the stupid computer games that encourages shooting people etc. We don't need any more gun laws, we need to change the idiots that abuse them! -
Well I finally retired after working 40+ years. I have had crappy jobs and good jobs, but I will tell all of you that money isn't everything so don't be miserable get to searching for a better job. I worked for a really good company that was sold to Halliburton, then it became crappy, I told my boss I was doing 3 people's jobs and getting paid for 1. Finally I quit and about 1 month later he called and told me he never realized the amount of work I had done or the stress I was in. It was because he wasn't having to deal with it. Seems like we are never appreciated until we are gone. When I got a vacation I had to work like a Hebrew slave the previous week and the weeks after to catch up. It wasn't worth the 2 or 3 days of rest. Now I work for my slave driving wife and get no pay. So ya'll have fun at work while you can!! LOL

Shades of "One Second After" (book)
Dirtshooter replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
To the OP, granted an EMP may never come, however the grid is getting pretty old and the fact that a lot of the huge transformers are custom made in foreign lands doesn't make me feel all that great. As for the"prepper" term, all of the generations from 1920 and before were self sufficient. They all grew a garden and had livestock as they only bought what they couldn't produce themselves such as salt, sugar, coffee, tea, flour. I have an older neighbor that told me his mother didn't feel good unless she had 100 quarts of green beans canned each summer. Food for thought, no pun intended. -
Just makes me want to buy another gun or three!! Yea nuking my neighborhood would only get me. Dumb^ss. There must be an organism that gets into these Kalifornians brains, no common sense.
-
Me too, sorry I missed that one. I would like to learn more about snares and trapping. Maybe I will see the post if you do another one. I don't get on here as much as I once did. Thanks for your time doing these classes. Mac

Thanks for everyone straining your brains. Prag that title is familiar, but I searched some and that isn't it. I have read enough books that my OLD hard drive in brain tends to get them mixed up. Ya'll don't strain your brains too much.

Tennessee ordered to stop license suspensions for indigence
Dirtshooter replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
My bad, we indirectly pay their insurance. If they had insurance, I wouldn't have to pay for uninsured motorist. -

We do pay for their insurance. For quite awhile I have wondered why we have to pay for uninsured motorists on our insurance. If everyone is required to have insurance, they why do we pay for uninsured motorists??? Very similar to people getting multiple DUI's, sorry but I don't feel sorry for anyone that puts my family in danger because they decide to drive under the influence!! -

Hey guys, I am going to show my old age kicking in. I read a book about SHTF about 5-6 years ago and cannot remember the title. The family had been in Walmart and the guy noticed all the checkers having issues, he goes to sporting goods to pickup a few more boxes of ammo, tells his wife to get home, fillup truck if no lines. He went to local hardware store for some added items, he knew the owner well and he let him and a few more to get stuff for later payment. Thanks upfront. Mac

Hi guys, for all that don't have a nice garden spot like Greg I want to let you know about raised bed gardening. I started raised beds about 4 years ago and wish I had done this about 40+ years ago. I found crates from a local tractor co. that were free so that is what I used. You can make beds as long as you want, just keep them 4 ft wide or narrower as you can reach in from both sides. I bought a load of topsoil and mushroom mix and it is really the key. First on raised beds is you don't need a tiller or hoe, you don't compact the soil as you are not walking in it. You don't have to compete with weeds and grass as you are above them. I put down cardboard and some black plastic along edges and added dirt mix. First year I literally pulled 3 weeds all season. There is lots of info on web, but if you have any questions let me know.

Go buy a real 4x4 that you can get parts for if it ever breaks. Try a real Jeep, an older K-5 blazer or 1st gen Bronco. You couldn't make me take one on a bet.

the white targets are no shoots. paint it tan and good to go. I have seen some IPSC tan ones with a couple of holes and red led's that light up with the brakes pretty cool.

I started celery inside planted Feb. 1st. I thought carrot seeds were small, but those things are almost microscopic. Plan on starting brocolli seeds 1st of March. I found this while looking at planting dates, it is called Phenology which is an observation of natual phenomena. You can find several sites that give a correlation between plants blooming and such to a planting time. For example plant potatoes when 1st dandelion blooms, plant bean, cucumber and squash when lilac is in full bloom. Thought I would pass this along, I had never heard the word, but it is like other old time sayings that people had observed over many years. Good gardening to all and may your harvest be plentiful.

I searched and didn't see this. I just learned that Mike Dillon who is the designer of Dillon reloaders and revised the mini-gun passed away on November 7, 2016. You can look on Dillons website and they have a tribute.

I will try to keep this short. I used to shoot competitively and I have a pretty quick trigger finger, however quick may not be accurate! I went back to shoot wheel gun when I lucked up on a S&W model 610 that shoots 10mm and .40S&W using moonclips. I can tell you for certain, with only 6 shots before you are empty as opposed to 21 rounds you will definetly slow down a bit and make those 6 shots hit in the A zone. It made me a better shot by going back to the wheel gun for a time. I call wheel guns "real" guns and semi-autos as bottom feeders. LOL
