  1. That is a fact, also most don't know offshore Kalifornia has lots of oil, but you know they don't want US drilling on their turf!! That is a very good question Greg that I would like someone in the gubbermint to answer. Sort of like Hussein Obama giving Iran all the millions of $$$, I guess to fund their fight with U.S.? I hope sometime soon, somebody gets the drift that the terrorist's don't like U.S.
  2. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pensacola-shooting-today-3-people-killed-shooter-dead-at-florida-navy-base-nas-pensacola-2019-12-06/ I don't know if anyone was following this or not. What I thought very odd was the fact that the local sheriff's are the ones that took care of the situation. A military base with armed MP's on duty and the sheriff deputys handled it??
  3. Good morning all. Today is the 78th anniversary of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. To all you vets out there, a great big thanks. You are not forgotten and your service is appreciated. It is the reason we sleep well at night because we know someone stands guard each and every night.
  4. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I have a lot to be thankful for. I think we take for granted this beautiful, FREE country we live in. Let us not forget the vets that paid for this free country. A huge thank you to all vets!!
  5. When I was about 9 my dad and me went to a friends house and he had a sow with piglets, well they had went around the barn lot and like an idiot that hadn't been around hogs I climbed the fence and was about 1/2 way across when the friend hollered for me to get the heck out of the pen, about that time I heard the sow grunting, a 9 year old can run fast when needed. A side story a hunting partner shot a hog in the head with a .243 she went out of sight and he trailer her for 1,000 yards or more and said the heck with it, about 10 days late same hog came in and this time he shot her with a 7 mag and she went about 40 yards into the brush, she had little pigs with her btw. Well he decided to sit for an hour or so as he was deer hunting, when he started to get down he picked off a couple of the piglets and when he went to the sow, the piglets had eaten about a bowling ball sized hunk of meat out of her. They will eat ANYTHING!! As Troy Landry would say Chootem Jacob!!
  6. So true. I have heard that we are just 1 breath away from our "stuff" being somebody else's "stuff"
  7. That is an understatement. I like most are over the hill, but I can still see some of the top!! I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren, but they all have guns of their own. But I think I will at least leave 1 to each of them. I know a fellow who had all the clan come for some occasion and he took all of his guns that he was going to give them and put a number on each 1 and had a corresponding number in a hat, you pick a number and bingo that is your gun, no fighting that Bob got a nicer gun than me. I thought that a very democratic way to handle things. Now on a lighter note. Happy Thanksgiving to all, we have been blessed beyond measure!!
  8. Just guessing Jeaux is a cajun name for Joe!! Like Breaux Bridge, Louisiana that is pronounced Bro Bridge.
  9. Nice buck Rugerla1. Howler you best listen to your wife, them horn take too long to cook. LOL I know what you mean though, in the woods where I hunt, unless he is bullwinkle I won't shoot in someplaces because just getting to him to put rope for winch would be a workout for me. Shoot them danged coyotes!!!
  10. I am not quite sure if that is acceptable according to TWRA, however I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express lately. LOL We have loads of acorns also, you can't walk without stepping on 3 or 4. I have a overcup oak next to my barn and I would bet there are 3 or 4 pickup loads of acorns surrounding my barn.
  11. Nice buck Slappy. I shot a cow horn spike opening muzzleloader season, needed some meat and he was the first available victim. I saw 4 this afternoon after the rain subsided and missed one. Oh well they call it hunting for a reason.
  12. You are oh so right, every now and then 1 will find it's way around and actually load, I wouldn't walk across the road for a pickup truck load of them, if I had to load them!!
  13. This isn't exactly pertinent to the OP story but, I had a next door neighbor pass away and they had to break glass in door to gain access and there were at least 1/2 dozen guns that I knew about. Next day I talked to the Sheriff's investigator and explained that they didn't secure the house and that there were guns inside. Long story short they did exactly nothing. It was several weeks before the neighbor's brother had a friend go and get the guns. Didn't make any sense to me. So it really doesn't surprise me that the LEO didn't go get the gun right then. Kind of like all these mass shooters whom several had been reported to the authorities and nothing was done. Sorry to steal thread.
  14. Jacob I would suggest visiting your LGS and see if they have a bulletin board or know of a rabbit hunter. Also check on TNDeer Forum, I am not a member of it, but look from time to time. If you are new to hunting, rabbits are not the easiest to hunt, it is much easier with a pack of beagles and a hunting party of 4 or so. Since you are new to hunting, I would suggest safety, safety, safety!! Squirrels are usually the first game hunted by most people. Just know what your target is and what is beyond it, as you are responsible for where it goes. I am not a Facebook fan, but I suppose you could find some like minded hunters on there. Have fun, good luck. And remember it is not about the killing of the game, it is the hunt itself, seeing all of God's creation come to life.
  15. Thank you to all of our veterans. Thank you for your sacrifice and the sacrifice of your family, for keeping this great nation Free. We know it did not come without a price. We Salute you!!
  16. Well Greg that makes 2 of us. Sort of like cell phones, if it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't have one. Where we live it doesn't work much of the time. Yea I have heard of other you kids killing big deer and elk, kind of beginners luck I guess.
  17. No they are going to appreciate the fact that you have nice tools that you took good care of. Plus I would wager that they won't hate you, that is unless they hate you now. If they do, make a will and give the good tools to a deserving person.
  18. Well as usual for me, I was running a little late and my gate lock was frozen. Had to go back inside to get a cigarette lighter to thaw the lock. Drove to my neighbors house and got there at exactly 5:42 a.m. which was the legal hour to shoot this morning. I got all my stuff and headed out, I had to cross an open field about 40 acres, and when I got where I could see there is a deer standing broadside, the .45 cal Encore at 129 yards and down went the deer. I thought at first I had seen antlers, and he had some about 8 1/2" long, a nice young about 140 lb. He is now resting peacefully in an Igloo ice chest in the barn. This is now the shortest deer hunt, may have taken 8 minutes. Previously shortest hunt was also muzzleloading season back in Mississippi and it took about 30 minutes from time I got out of truck until I pulled the trigger. I got into my ladder stand very quietly and you know all the stuff you carry while muzzleloading and got it all situated and it was just getting light where you could see and about 17 yards from the stand this doe is just standing there. These hunts do not resemble a lot of my hunts where I don't see any deer . More than 1 time I have sit from before daylight until dark and not seen anything. If no critters at all are moving, get up and go home!!
  19. Hi all, how many of you are going muzzle loading hunting tomorrow? I actually have about quit hunting, tell my friends I don't hate them as much as I once did. I didn't actually hate them btw. Went scouting on Monday and found some fresh rubs and fresh doe scat, so I figure that is a good place to park my butt in the a.m. Good luck and be safe for all that are going to the woods.
  20. You could have fun by adding them to a buddy's range bag and let him try to figure out why in the H3ll they wouldn't fire.
  21. Hey Greg, while doing a little deer scouting yesterday I found a whole bunch of shag bark hickory nuts and picked up a couple of handfuls. When I got home and put them in the vice every last one was rotten, I guess that is the reason the tree rats hadn't picked them up.
  22. Look I will be the first to admit I ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer. I do not and will not do FB. Why doesn't some enterprising computer savvy person design a conservative, gun friendly version that is based in the U.S. with red, white and blue values??
  23. Yeah, kinda mixed emotions. It is free, but not worth driving back to get another for free?? I used to make a living wrenching also Grayfox and I like Mac and Snap-on but like you said, Craftsman was cheaper and warranted. I also like Blackhawk tools, I worked at a couple of Auto parts stores in early 70's and they are pretty good. I just found out that Blackhawk were made by New Britain whom also made Craftsman and some other brands. I look at guns as tools, buy a good one and it will outlast your great grandkids.
  24. Doug I think you should feed Darby when she is hungry, or can she actually read a clock? LOL!!
  25. When I typed the title I figured somebody would think I was speaking of "the time change" back to standard time. My Craftsman brand 1/4" ratchet literally fell apart a few weeks ago, and I was thinking are they still covered by the warranty? As the Sears store in Cookeville closed, I happened to find out Lowes covers the warranty. I went in today with my OLD broken ratchet and got a brand spanking new one that retailed for $29.98. Not a big deal, however I receive a $49.99 tool set from my parents in 1968 for Christmas, it contained a 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets with sockets, screwdrivers, pliers and end wrenches. Plus over the years that ratchet that broke had been rebuilt or replaced at least 2 or 3 times. I think the tool set has been a great investment. Times have certainly changed.
