  1. And most of all snipers.
  2. Case in point about 20 years ago I purchased some .308 Winchester to sight in my new at the time Encore pistol. I got about 3 or 4 boxes same lot number. While at the range I shot a half dozen or so rounds and noticed 2 or 3 that didn't have a primer in them. I looked at other boxes and I think a few more were missing. I thought I would have to get the Supreme Court involved to get Wal-mart to take them back. As I bought that gun to deer hunt with, I would have been sorely miffed if I had loaded that gun in the early morning dawn and not checked to see if there was a primer in it. That pretty much made me quit buying factory ammo to hunt with. I have shot 10's of thousand rounds practicing and shooting USPSA matches, most were my reloads. There is a certain satisfaction knowing that th ammo you produce is superior to the factory ammo. If you haven't looked at a video how fast the ammo manufacturers make the ammo, it is a wonder the majority of it exits the barrel properly. t
  3. Pop Pop, Don't discount living another 20-30 years. If that steel you bought for gongs are from China or Japan, you will probably outlive it!! Just pump lead into them every chance you get. Like Troy says on swamp people, chootem Pop Pop, chootem!!
  4. Ok it is official, my garden is all planted and awaiting 4th of July snow. If it does we are packing up and moving south.
  5. Well Greg sounds like the boys got them a job and they didn't even have to leave home to find it.
  6. Makes me proud being a former Mississippian for 45 years. Just plain and simple common sense. Something that is far too rare in the world in which we live.
  7. Back to Op's question, I hear a lot of people ask how much is your time worth etc. I look at reloading as a hobby that feeds another hobby. If one doesn't shoot much then reloading probably isn't for you. If you can purchase the ammo you require at a price you are willing to pay, then don't bother. If you shoot any of the sports USPSA, IDPA etc. it will probably pay off as you will have plenty of practice ammo, you can tune a load for your gun for a particular sport. You will always have enough ammo for your needs. However it does take an investment in time and money. One has to be focused on the task at hand and pretty much be a perfectionist. It sure is nice though if you are going to shoot a match or go hunting in a day or so and look at your inventory and say, "I need to load 20 rounds of caliber of choice, or I need 400 rounds of .40 S&W, you have the tools and patience to get this job done. Can you save money, yes, but you have to buy in bulk, and can't count your time. I don't know any home gardeners making $$ while cutting their grass btw. And the feeling of satisfaction of shooting a deer or turkey or a match with your homemade ammo.
  8. Just for the record we had a good frost this morning, I didn't look at thermometer 31 or 32 I think was the low. Next week the 'maters and rest of garden goes into the ground. Yea Greg this global warming sure is working on my wood pile. Have had a fire 3 or 4 times since spring sprung!!
  9. I haven't heard one in a week or more. Yesterday while going to nursery to get fruit trees saw 3 or 4 turkeys, 1 nice gobbler about 1:30. I read that turkeys have sort of evolved that if there are a lot of turkeys sometimes the younger gobblers won't gobble because they may have been in fights with the boss hog of the woods and just be quiet. May be true?
  10. Poor ole hornet, I hope he felt every bite!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. The gov't may need to do a study and place a lower harvest in an attempt to keep population levels higher.
  12. I would danged sure have gone, provided the guide didn't ask a ton of $$$. LOL I make snake shot shells our of .357 brass, open up the primer hole a bit, Bullseye, I use my lubrisizer to cut wads out of thin cardboard like cereal boxes or ammo boxes and either hot glue or melted paraffin wax to seal them.
  13. Ya'll are joking with the gun references I know. But I have seen a reload recipe for .38 or .357 using small amount of powder and either grits or cornmeal and seal it with wax for shooting the carpenter or boring bee's. You know a gun guy will figure out something that needs to be shot!!
  14. Well all the only thing I don't see in weather forecast is snow. Supposed to be 39 Wednesday night, 36 Friday night and 35 Saturday night. That is the reason my tomatoes and peppers are safe inside when it isn't nice outside. At 35 we could get a light frost. I questioned how it could frost at 34 or 35 and they measure the temperature about 5 feet off of the ground and naturally it is a bit cooler at the ground. So ya'll watch the forecast and keep them 'maters covered up. Hope everyone has a great garden this year!!
  15. I should have known. They say behind every successful man there is a woman directing him!! LOL
  16. Looking good Greg. Did you have help or do that all by yourself? Hope you have a bountiful harvest.
  17. May have been a TGO member that had too many guns. Dropped gun and grabbed the turkey!!. Men gotta do what men gotta do to feed the family. I needed that laugh this morning. Thanks Kahr man
  18. Danged David that is 2 coyotes, maybe after turkey season we may need to set up and thin out your coyote herd!!
  19. Yes on that day 89 men fro 23 towns in Massachusetts were killed or wounded in Concord. By the next morning Massachusetts had 12 regiments in the field. Within 1 week 16,000 men from 4 New England colonies formed a siege outside British occupied Boston. The British thought every able-bodied male had become a soldier.
  20. Well guys at 67killed my first turkey, only hunted turkeys a couple times in my life. Funny thing I was out back stacking firewood and heard him gobble about 100 yards down in a bottom. I broke and ran and put on some camo grabbed my 870, seat and eased out front of barn into the woods about 60 yards. Sit down cut at him and he waited 5 minutes and gobbled, he wouldn't answer me but about every 4 or 5 minutes he would gobble. About 20 yards to my 2 o'clock came a lone hen and she messed around for 5 minutes hunting her sister I guess. I putted to her as she was walking away, she turned looked and eased off. Gobbler gobbled in same place so after 5 minutes I decided to move half way to him, I stood up and was getting my seat and he gobbled 50 yards down the hill. Now it was getting interesting. I sat down got gun on my monopod, flipped safety off and every few minutes would putt at him. Since this was my first turkey and not videoing I didn't waste much time when he came in, at 25 yards with a 2 3/4" #6 reload I put him down, he was flopping pretty good and I shot him again with a 3" #5, made him a jellyhead. Spurs were 3/4" with a 9 1/2" thick beard. Didn't have a scale, but a nice turkey. 2 or 3 weeks before season I saw 3 longbeards 40 yards from my window at computer desk, so I knew we had a few. Sorry for the long post. I ain't saying I am hooked, but if I had went fishing I wouldn't of got him. Shot him at 1:05P.M.
  21. And I will guarantee he remembers that day very well also. I still say caning and hanging can solve a goodly bit of our prison overcrowding problem!!
  22. Since you are going to plant sunflowers, sounds like the makings of a great dove hunt. I and my SX2 are available to keep them under control.
  23. Happy Easter to all!! My prayer is that all that don't know Jesus would seek him this day!!
  24. Exactly what I think would be the best option. I know that millions of times per year just the sight of a gun pointed at a bad guy, makes him not so bad.
  25. Or possibly it was gifted to the whole world by someone wanting to get rid of a bunch of people?? I have decided that the "experts" are really scratching their heads about this man made virus!!
