Buying it cheap and stacking it deep!!!
Dirtshooter replied to owejia's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Hence the reason I started reloading 30+ years ago, I always said a #2 iron was a better weapon than a gun without a live round to fire. The only commercial ammo I have purchased in 10 years or so is .22lr. -
Congrats, we will have 50 on March 27 next year. I am still trying to figure out why she said yes??

It must be nice to decide at your job, " I don't want to do that part"!! What use are they if they don't hear the cases?? Absolutely nothing but a liability, costing money and getting nothing in return!!

Why aiming for center mass is important
Dirtshooter replied to ironsniper1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That my friends is why we all need to train, train, train. It is okay to practice a few head shots, but they are only needed in certain situations where body armor on a bad guy dictates. My CC instructor back in Mississippi who was a deputy at the time said it best, stop the threat. If he was worth 1 round he danged sure is worth 2. In a real life situation it is all over with in less than 20-30 seconds unless there are a lot of bad guys. And that is the reason to carry a spare mag and a spare gun. -
We called them knuckle busters too. I was watching a youtube video on boating the other day and saw a center console Coast guard boat and it had a spinner on it. Don't know if I ever saw one on a boat. Did you notice the cash register .05 and dime. Stuff sure was cheaper back then, I recall around '63 I could walk into the Western auto store and get a box of .22 shorts for $0.39. And the kicker was nobody thought that odd at all!!! Those of us that grew up in the 50's and 60's have a lot to be thankful for!!

Googled it up, yes the American Pokeweed does grow there. Most of the U.S. has it.

Sounds like my poor brother-in-law. 1st time they came in with their brand new camper, his wife directed him right into a telephone pole. To say he wasn't a happy camper was a huge understatement.

52, shoot I can barely remember 52, but it was better than almost 68. I am still trying to figure out how my daughter got to be 49 this February. Forrest Gump had it right, life is like a box of chocolates that somebody has already eaten the good ones!!

I assume that most of those WWII vets want to forget the horror that they endured. They never heard of PTSD. I have never been around many of these vets that talk about their time in. Even Vietnam vets rarely talk. I am blessed to go to church with 1 WWII vet who is one of our former pastors he is 94, plus we have 2 Korean vets that attend our church 1 of which is one of our deacons.

Yea it never changes Greg, same view day in and day out!! LOL

Thanks David, you beat me to it this morning. Yes the whole free world owes a huge debt of gratitude and respect for this brave group of men & women. A few years back our secretary's dad was a tank driver on Omaha beach June 7, 1944 and he could never watch a war movie. He said as a 17 or 18 year old he could never put it out of his mind the fact that they were driving over dead American corpses that they didn't or couldn't move out of the way. My wife's Uncle will be 95 in October and served in the Navy in the Pacific. I was wondering if all those that fought for our freedom's are cringing at what has happened to our nation this past week. Thanks to all the vets that have served and are now serving! May God bless you all!!

And that according to the BATF is a firearm, not a shotgun. No I don't even try to understand them.

HELP! What did I do wrong?
Dirtshooter replied to MKALDRICH's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Or live in the woods and shoot in your yard!! Killed a large carpenter bee yesterday with my .357 rice loads!! -
That would be the people that are tired of all the drive by shootings and other cesspool activities. That is why when you go into the country you see signs that say I don't call 911, I am 911!! Hence the reason, not many days go by that I don't hear gunshots or make gunshots. Already this morning I heard 4 or 5 and it wasn't a drive by shooting either.

Thanks to all the families that gave their young men and women to keep this world safer. To all those that have fallen, we have not forgotten you. Thanks to all the active men and women that stand in the gap to keep us all safe, may God bless you all!!

I guess I have spoiled my family, they don't have to reload, I do it for them. I have tried several times to get my adult son into it, but as of yet he hasn't.

Back in Mississippi my enhanced carry instructor who was a LEO said about 75-80% of gunshot victims survive and about 25-30% of knife victims survive. Most of knife victims will bleed out before the ambulance gets to the scene. Just like I have said many times, a gun is no more a weapon than a knife, a 2 iron, 4,000 lb. vehicle etc. But it is always the evil gun that gets the bad rap.

And most of all snipers.

Case in point about 20 years ago I purchased some .308 Winchester to sight in my new at the time Encore pistol. I got about 3 or 4 boxes same lot number. While at the range I shot a half dozen or so rounds and noticed 2 or 3 that didn't have a primer in them. I looked at other boxes and I think a few more were missing. I thought I would have to get the Supreme Court involved to get Wal-mart to take them back. As I bought that gun to deer hunt with, I would have been sorely miffed if I had loaded that gun in the early morning dawn and not checked to see if there was a primer in it. That pretty much made me quit buying factory ammo to hunt with. I have shot 10's of thousand rounds practicing and shooting USPSA matches, most were my reloads. There is a certain satisfaction knowing that th ammo you produce is superior to the factory ammo. If you haven't looked at a video how fast the ammo manufacturers make the ammo, it is a wonder the majority of it exits the barrel properly. t

Pop Pop, Don't discount living another 20-30 years. If that steel you bought for gongs are from China or Japan, you will probably outlive it!! Just pump lead into them every chance you get. Like Troy says on swamp people, chootem Pop Pop, chootem!!

Ok it is official, my garden is all planted and awaiting 4th of July snow. If it does we are packing up and moving south.

Well Greg sounds like the boys got them a job and they didn't even have to leave home to find it.

Back to Op's question, I hear a lot of people ask how much is your time worth etc. I look at reloading as a hobby that feeds another hobby. If one doesn't shoot much then reloading probably isn't for you. If you can purchase the ammo you require at a price you are willing to pay, then don't bother. If you shoot any of the sports USPSA, IDPA etc. it will probably pay off as you will have plenty of practice ammo, you can tune a load for your gun for a particular sport. You will always have enough ammo for your needs. However it does take an investment in time and money. One has to be focused on the task at hand and pretty much be a perfectionist. It sure is nice though if you are going to shoot a match or go hunting in a day or so and look at your inventory and say, "I need to load 20 rounds of caliber of choice, or I need 400 rounds of .40 S&W, you have the tools and patience to get this job done. Can you save money, yes, but you have to buy in bulk, and can't count your time. I don't know any home gardeners making $$ while cutting their grass btw. And the feeling of satisfaction of shooting a deer or turkey or a match with your homemade ammo.

Just for the record we had a good frost this morning, I didn't look at thermometer 31 or 32 I think was the low. Next week the 'maters and rest of garden goes into the ground. Yea Greg this global warming sure is working on my wood pile. Have had a fire 3 or 4 times since spring sprung!!
