  1.   See if the guide is smart enough to show you the exact spot where they put "bracelets" on Ray Blanton.   And James K. Polk (& wife) are not the only folks buried there... be sure to ask about THIS story.
  2. Had four of them occur at my house last night, did a look-see on the first two, around the house, yard, crawlspace, attic... found nothing. At first I thought it was something falling off of a shelf in the garage, then I was concerned that perhaps the house was losing an iced gutter. Also was concerned that perhaps one of the house pilings in the crawlspace had shifted for some reason.   Definitely startling and puzzling until I figured out (thanks, interwebs) by the third one that it was ice in the ground.
  3. OK you wise guys-- which one of you is responsible for this??   http://wgnsradio.com/who-did-donuts-in-the-in-the-barfield-crescent-park-frisbee-golf-course--cms-24927
  4. I'm ridin' it out with a rather large batch of venison stew that I made last night, accompanied with various single-malts and a couple of quarts of 'shine courtesy of my brother's "hobby" still... when that runs low, I've still got a well stocked "beer cellar" in reserve.   What's "milk and bread"?? Don't these people know that stuff can kill ya?
  5. I guess my attitude is simply too fatalistic to believe that this thing would ever make it out of committee in its original form.
  6. Wow... In a Gannett paper, no less! They're not exactly known for giving column space to "opposing views". Great Job!
  7. Exactly what I do.. Except I use a funnel instead of a turkey baster.
  8.   Thanks... the links I posted are for a virtual online scanner... no hardware required. However, Municipalities have to agree to allow their broadcasts.
  9. To listen free online while surfing:   http://www.broadcastify.com   They don't have EVERY municipality, but they do have quite a few in Tennessee.   For Rutherford County Sheriff, as well as Smyrna police & fire,  The link is here: http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/13903/web   Unfortunately, Murfreesboro Police Dept. is not available. Rutherford County fire is, though.
  10. Yet another reason which redeems my decision to not have a facebook account at all.
  11.   If they haven't changed it yet, you can bet your bottom dollar that they most likely WILL remedy the situation before the doors open for the NRA convention. Due to the amount of publicity around the annual meeting, I fully expect that they will make sure the place is posted, and I for one don't plan to be the "test case" for carrying past a posting. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they went as far as "wanding" folks simply because it's a bunch of "gun nuts".   And you Nashville locals, don't be surprised if other places around town which are not presently posted, magically become posted (temporarily or otherwise) while the convention is in town. The anti-gun local media will make sure that there's plenty of "what-if" handwringing going on.
  12.   Not in my case. I did my HCP range qualification with an SA revolver because I had grown up with that particular gun and was extremely comfortable with it. However, as Garufa stated, it is up to the instructor.
  13. Judging by the trending increase each year over the last 5 years, looks like we're on track to surpass half a million permit holders by the end of 2015.
  14. I generally shoot off 25ACP cartridges on July 4th, as they're safer than sparklers and less lethal than firecrackers. :taunt:   Just kidding... and perpetuating the 25ACP bad rap myth. I definitely wouldn't volunteer to take fire from one.
  15.   If it has to be a sash, then the names must be done in Elmer's Glue & glitter. Any other way is not acceptable by pageant standards.   Embroidered monogrammed ascots are acceptable though.
  16.   The smoked deviled eggs there are a "must have" as an appetizer!   D'oh! scratch that... I was thinking of the Southern, not the Standard... :ugh:
  17. Sounds like a great idea, but Mondays and Tuesdays are band rehearsal nights for me (different band each night), so I'm pretty much a no-go... a shame too, since my band rehearsals on Mondays are in Donelson, less than 2 miles from that Shoneys.   Have fun w/out me. :usa:
  18.   out of frustration, they make him throw his Mac into oncoming traffic?
  19. Pyracantha and Barberry are pleasing to the eye, especially when blooming or bearing (berries), and they both grow rather quickly-- they are quite trainable as large shrubs without getting out of hand (like bamboo or kudzu might). An added bonus is that they are both very, very thorny (more-so than holly, and they grow much faster than holly), and about the only thing that can get through them unscathed is Br'er Rabbit--and only because he was born in a briarpatch ;) -- making them a very good deterrent against trespassing through the hedgerow. Not recommended if you intend to play flag football anywhere in the vicinity-- one crash into these shrubs and you'll feel like you just sumo-wrestled with a porcupine.   Note-- there are some hybrid barberrys that do not have thorns-- be sure you pick the right ones. Both Pyracantha and Barberry will grow easily in the Tennessee Hardy zones and are sturdy, requiring little care.
  20. I've been a serious vinyl collector since the 9th grade. with over 1300 LPs in my collection, I never got rid of my turntable. I've been using a Garrard linear tracking turntable since the mid-80's. That doesn't mean that I ignored the digital revolution. My CD collection is about the same size as my vinyl collection, but there's lots of stuff in my LP/45 collection that has never seen the light of day on a CD release.
  21. No firearms this year, however I'm pretty stoked about getting this-- it was a totally unexpected gift from my father-in-law... heckuva guy... I married well! and yes, although they look like "stock photos" these are pictures of the actual instrument, courtesy of Sweetwater Sound.
  22.   Same here... and my wife is a way better shot with a compact pistol than myself. I've got the edge on her with longarms, but with a pistol I don't worry one iota about her being able to hit her target pretty much at will.   Did I mention that I always do my best to stay on her "good side?"
  23. Bosco's is closed, for sure. A damn shame too. Their Isle of Skye scotch ale was awesome.   Mayday Brewery in Murfreesboro has some surprisingly good stuff on tap. The "Evil Octopus" is my personal favorite out of their regular brews.
