  1. On principle-- Dick's caved to the gun control crowd within 36 hours of Newtown by pulling all of their AR rifles nationwide. On top of that, they welched on a big AR purchase contract with Troy Defense at the same time. Troy Defense currently has litigation pending against Dick's for breach of contract.   http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/12/daniel-zimmerman/troy-defense-on-dicks-canceling-black-friday-carbine-orders/   http://www.infowars.com/dicks-sporting-goods-pulls-semi-automatics-as-attack-against-second-amendment-intensifies/   Dick's stinks in a cowardly fashion. When the chips were down, they turned their back on gun owners AND manufacturers.   Even so, not everyone feels that way, and you are certainly entitled to do business with them if you wish-- they just won't get any of my money. I have a long memory.
  2. I will gladly leave the ammo at Dick's for those who don't have a problem with them. I will continue to spend my money elsewhere.
  3. The last gun show I went to was the 'Boro show the weekend after Newtown. Haven't had much interest in going due to the stupid panic prices on most stuff. Now that firearms prices are stabilizing somewhat, I'll probably go to this one to look around a bit.
  4.   Very nice. Thanks much for your help!
  5. Well, I've heard that they're pretty rough on brass, but since I'd be shooting primarily steel-cased milsurp ammo, this doesn't really concern me that much. I'm wondering if they are as drag-thru-mud/sand/snow/dirt reliable as most AK's. Also wondering what kind of accuracy are we talking about with the shorter barrel models (under 20"). And last, what percentage of the platform is AK-compatible parts-wise.
  6. Wow, No VEPR love around here? I know they're Commie guns but hey, surely somebody here must have experience with 'em...   The sound of crickets chirping is deafening.
  7. I'm quite intrigued by these rifles, particularly since they are available in 7.62x54R (among other calibers). Looking for some general info, do's & don'ts, and any other advice you can give.. especially if you own or have shot the 54R version.   All replies appreciated-- fire away.
  8. Current MSRP is $415, so only a minimal price increase over the original MSRP last year. The biggest problem with Kel-Tec is that they create some very unique platforms (PMR30, SUB2000, KSG, etc) but they never seem to make it to the streets in any reasonable production numbers. But man-oh-man, do they crank out the P3AT's and P-11's! I see them everywhere.
  9. cowardly scumbags. Apply that term to the CA, and to the legislators of your choice. It's going to take a monumental effort to ever make this state a constitutional carry state-- too many lily-livered RINOS in the state house-- and they play right into the hands of folks like the CA. Considering the way our "right" to carry is only a "defense" against going armed, I'm not holding my breath.
  10. Thanks, Trekker. Haven't been by there a month or so. I've been shopping for a VEPR, but I'm looking for a 7.62x54R model.
  11. For me, it's a therapeutic post-range ritual. There's nothing quite like a day at the range, followed by a laid back evening cleaning guns while watching a ballgame. I quite enjoy it-- especially in the fall when football is on.   Funny thing is, I despise doing dishes or laundry (I do them anyway), but I've never viewed firearms cleaning as a "chore". Go figure.
  12. Yup. Stupid, ain't it?
  13. If it came out of a vintage spam can, I can guarantee that it has corrosive primers. Like everyone else says, no problem-- just clean it ASAP after shooting. I use boiling water down the barrel followed by Hoppe's #9. I swab the breech and bolt with Hoppe's as well. At least with your Mosin, you don't have to worry about cleaning a gas piston/cylinder. The Mosin is pretty easy to clean.
  14. When I was little, my dad always told me that a "sooner" was a dog... One that would sooner crap on the floor than on the paper... :o True story. My father was such a kidder.
  15. $85 over MSRP-- glad to see at least that the prices are coming down a little bit... these guns were priced super-stupid about 4-5 months ago. I've seen them for as high as 2 x MSRP.   Thanks for the heads-up-- I really wanted one when they came out, but now they're a little further down on the list due to some of the operational glitches that they've had with the early models. I'll probably wait a little longer before taking the plunge.
  16.   Bingo. The ammo famine will be with us for a while yet.
  17. Shame??? This is the best they got?   Sorry Ms. Lafferty-- but no amount of emotional hand-wringing or ultra-crappy legislation ever brought anyone back from the dead. Grieve, learn, accept your loss, and move on with your life. You might also want to consider learning how NOT to be a victim yourself.   I must sound pretty callous, I guess.
  18. As long as there is a demand for something, there will be a black market/secondary market for it. The only way to minimize the effect of resellers is to either decrease the demand or flood the supply line.   Since the larger retailers (Wal-mart, Cabelas, Academy, Midway, etc) can't even keep ammo in stock, flooding the supply line is not currently an option. The bottleneck is at the manufacturing/distribution end.
  19.   Link?   the cheapest price I see on their website is $117 for one can-- unless  $87.87 is the FFL dealer price.
  20. Nice one.   Mine's a '43 Izzy, and it's not laminated either-- I prefer the solid wood anyway.   You mention that all the numbers match-- did you happen to check the number on the bayonet as well?  The numbers all match on mine except the bayonet, but "force matching" is quite common, particularly on the buttplate and magazine. The number on my buttplate is original, but the number on my magazine is not-- it was ground off and "re-matched"-- by the armory I suppose. Quite common on these, and I see it more often on the CAI imports like yours (and mine).   Enjoy it-- I wouldn't trade mine for nothin'.
  21. Monkeylizard--   cool story. Thanks for the link. :usa:
  22. Black bear IS pushing west in this state. While the bear population is mostly concentrated in East TN along the Appalachian range, the territory is very slowly expanding. Big South Fork NWR has had a successful re-population program in place for many years now.   Most of what is seen in Middle TN are younger wandering males, and this is on a very rare basis. Even so, the bear population is also growing in several neighboring states such as Kentucky, Western NC and Missouri-- although I doubt that many Missouri bears are willing to swim the Mississippi just to get here.
  23. It's not the gun. It's the range you're shooting at-- never did care for that place... and I won't mention the name, even though they're not a TGO vendor.   Kidding aside, follow the aforementioned advice re: cleaning & lubing, and you should be good to go.
