Gave the PF9 another shot....with good results.
tartanphantom replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handguns
PF9 is also my primary summertime carry. Mine shoots low (not low & left) for me, but my girlfriend can shoot it accurately with no problem. I just have to aim a little higher with it. :D When I do that, I can get reasonable groupings at 10-15 yds. Yeah, I know, it's me, not the gun. I have to deliberately aim high with this gun. I don't have this problem with other pistols, namely my Bersa Thunder 45 and my Ruger, so I figure it's got to be some combination of my large hands and the PF9's very narrow grip and rather heavy trigger. Even so, I've never had any problems with the serviceability of the gun itself. It goes bang every time, with no feed issues. Just bought the Laserlyte sidemount to add to mine (they're on sale this month at MidwayUSA). -

Thanks for the heads-up. I still patronize Outpost occasionally, and I realize that they had a pretty hard time keeping stuff in stock for several months due to the craziness, and probably had to pay a bit more for some items just to get them into the store. It's way on the far side of town for me, so I have to make a special trip down that way, but I will keep it in mind. :) -
Dicks Sporting Goods had ammo (Chattanooga)

Have at it, brother. I don't expect anyone else to stop buying from Dick's simply on my principles. To each his own. ;) -

A whole new level of civil disobedience....
tartanphantom replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This is inevitable. Always will be someone at the party who pisses in the punchbowl. The question will be who flinches first-- the protesters or the crowd control folks? Someone will screw up and ruin it for all involved. As my dad used to tell us as kids, "this is why we can't have nice things." -
Wow-- I just looked at the DOS site, and the whole thing has been revamped-- including an online application process! http://www.tn.gov/safety/handgunmain.shtml

Yes, I've used that too. However, I found that for some reason Gunbot isn't picking up everything from Midway in its searches. -

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should pursue the x54R or just go with the standard 5.45-- It would mean starting yet another ammo pile, but the 5.45 milsurp stuff is still damn cheap-- cheaper even than x54R. I can put my hands on a 5.45 VEPR (several, actually) within a 5 minute drive from my house.

Thanks for the input and perspective, folks. Now that I've cooled down a bit since earlier today, I've come to terms with it. -
You mean to tell me that he wasn't stopped or detained ("your papers, please..") at the Illinois border by the IL gestapo for even thinking about a firearm? I'm shocked. He must have felt like an East Berliner after a successful climb over the Wall.

Wow, Raoul, you must have that topic search saved for frequent use. :stunned:

Rarely. But if I do, I don't pay it any mind. Just remember that to "carry as the situation dictates" includes the concept of not OC'ing if you anticipate trouble or negative reactions by doing so. I prefer to CC when possible because I don't like to telegraph the fact that I am armed. In comfortable and "safe" situations (on my property, at a close friend's house, or where encouraged) I will sometimes OC. but CC is usually the norm for me for daily carry.

I carry as the situation dictates. I'm comfortable with either.

I'm with you on that... Larry has done well, and Midway has some of the best (if not the best) customer service in the retail side of the industry. It's just terribly aggravating to the point that I had to speak my mind on this. I know that Larry can't change the real-world ammo situation, but if ya got something to sell, at least people ought to know that. Turning off the notification system does nothing except make the Midway web-server guys happy. And I haven't bought every time I got a notification-- not even 3/4 of the time. Many times I'll talk myself out of it, either because I've got enough of a certain caliber, or because I can't order multiple items to keep from getting screwed on the UPS shipping. Oddly enough, the stuff in the most demand (.22 and 9mm) are not what I'm usually hunting-- I'm blessed with a very comfortable margin on those. It's .22WMR, 45ACP, and 357mag that I'm hunting for personal use. -

True, but I doubt that the resellers were making much of a dent at Midway-- they already had pretty heavy order limits in place on the hot stuff like 22 and 9mm. -
Midway USA has ticked me off. As of today, they have disabled the notification system on most ammo. If you already have a notification in place, you will get that one when the product arrives, but you currently CANNOT re-new the notification. With their system I had at least half a chance to buy some ammo at non-panic prices. Many times I got a notification, but wasn't near a computer at the time, and missed out on the opportunity... so what. big deal. my fault, not theirs. But now, I don't even have that opportunity. Nobody who has a life can sit in front of a screen 24/7, endlessly refreshing a web page in the faint hope that something will miraculously show as "in stock". Midway might as well just shut down the entire ammo section of their website until such a time that they have amassed as much ammo as DHS. Granted, Midway USA has done nothing wrong. They just changed their policy to make it a little harder for the average joe to buy ammo at standard pricing. Guess after my remaining pending notifications are expired, I'll be camping out at Walmart with the "breakfast club" folks. I guess pissing & moaning doesn't really help the situation, and I may be venting over something trivial. But it's just one of those little things that gets my goat. I sent customer service an email on the matter, I'm sure I'll get a canned response-- I can't be the only person miffed by this development.
