  1. I'd use a little caution buying a T-53 sight unseen, because they're often a total crapshoot on condition, and I don't trust someone to just "pick a good one" for a mail order purchase. The Chinese usually oiled the buttstocks, but didn't use any other laqcuer, varnish or other finishing agents. Consequently, most of the T-53s I've seen in the past year have been in extremely rough condition, with very poor rough finishes-- we're talking splinter city-- with lots of dings & gouges in the wood. A whole bunch of them need re-crowning, and the bore wear is sometimes suspect.  And I haven't seen one yet that had matching serial numbers, which means that many were probably arsenal re-assemblies from parts bins. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but if the bolt number and the barrel/chamber number don't match up, I'd highly recommend checking the both the headspace clearance and the firing pin protrusion before firing the first shot.   I've seen plenty of them at shows, but haven't found one I'd take home yet. I don't expect them to be perfect by any means, but I don't intend to spend money on a "wallhanger" either. Caveat Emptor.
  2.   Maybe Morgan's toffee-nosed accent will give Chris Matthews a new "thrill up his leg".
  3. Why bother to stop??? Zombies can't feel anything anyway... at least that's what the movies portray.
  4.   Or the evil switchblade, whose opening sound is equivalent to the racking sound of a pump shotgun. :panic:     At least according to the Sheriff's Association...
  5. I know the gentleman who initiated the serial number check... local Portland businessman and also happens to be vice-mayor of Portland. Mr. McDowell is a good egg. :usa:
  6.   I'm thinking AK-pistol instead...
  7. Thanks, folks-- Not sure if I'll get to all of them, but this gives me some great destination choices. :usa:
  8. I'll be spending a few days in Chattanooga in the near future. Any suggestions on gun shops worth a visit?
  9. It's a business focus decision... nothing more. Pool your resources and concentrate on your biggest sellers.
  10.   Both of my Bersa 45s will eat anything you feed them with no issues. FMJ, HP, brass, aluminum, steel casings, you name it. I tend to stick with brass as a persona preference, though.   The Bersa Thunder 45 has a moderate recoil, perceived more as a "push" than a "flip"-- most likely due to it's frame and the rather substantial grip. It's quite enjoyable to shoot, as opposed to the "bucking bronco" tendencies of some lighter 45s. The Bersa uses a staggered cartridge arrangement in the magazine, which makes the grip fatter than a true single stack mag, but thinner than a true double stack mag.
  11.   What's your question about this? The Bersa is SA/DA. I've carried one daily for a few years now with no problems whatsoever-- usually in double action mode with safety on. Drop safety, pull trigger, bang. If you have a good holster, you can choose not to use the safety (it also functions as a decocker)--the trigger pull is just heavy enough in double action mode to prevent all but the most careless mistakes. The single action trigger pull is substantially less, making shots #2-8 much easier to get off, since the gun automatically switches to single action after the first shot, with a much shorter and lighter trigger pull. Since the safety and decocker are actuated by the same lever, it is NOT recommended to carry it in single action mode, although it can technically be done. Unlike a 1911, there is no way to carry it in "cocked & locked" condition.   A buddy of mine carries the XDS, he likes it a lot, and it's gotten some great reviews. Biggest complaints I see on it are usually concerning muzzle flip and limited capacity with the standard magazine. There have been a few cases of weak blowback, but I would guess that's more from limpwristing such a light gun than the actual gun itself.   I can't speak for the Kahr as I have no experience with it.
  12.   Wow.... just..... wow... :o
  13. Looks like about the only thing left is the Critical Duty line and a some of the Critical Defense line. :stunned:
  14. Just about any John Woo or Michael Bay film becomes extraordinarily silly because of the insanely high round counts expended by standard handguns.
  15.   Yup, OC is perfectly legal. Tennessee's permit is an HCP (handgun carry permit), not to be confused with a CC (conceal carry) permit. The decision to carry OC or CC is entirely up to the permit holder.
  16. Welcome to TGO, BBmG. As a Mosin enthusiast, I would love to see before/after pix of that Mosin project of yours.
  17. This group, posing as an NRA alternative, is set to launch offically on July 4:   http://amriflepistol.com/   The press release can be found here:   http://thegunwriter.blogs.heraldtribune.com/13117/new-national-gun-organization-to-launch-july-4th/     So far, so good, right? we always need more pro-2A folks, right? Hold it-- not so fast...   It seems that the leader of this "pro gun" group appears to openly support MAIG, as well as the Manchin-Toomey debacle, and other neo-idiot anti-2A groups.   Proof can be found here, in the form of screen captures of the Chairman's personal Facebook page:   http://www.pagunblog.com/2013/07/03/the-latest-not-really-pro-gun-group/   Really, now, if the Chairman of this organization holds these types of views, but wants to head up a "pro-gun" group, you'd think that he'd have enough sense to cover his tracks a bit. Don't know if there are any Bloomberg Bucks behind this, but it wouldn't surprise me... just wanted to get this out there in case anyone was suckered into joining this group of shills.   I've been thinking of sending them a nastygram via their contact form, but I haven't stopped laughing yet--- where's a good spambot program when you need it?     UPDATE: even more info on these posers here:   http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/07/robert-farago/the-birth-of-a-false-flag-operation-american-rifle-and-pistol-association/#more-240041
  18. Got a shirt like that. One of my favorites.
  19. It's Gene Kennedy's website. He's the publisher of the annual "TN Handgun Permit Manual"-- you see them in gun shops all over. He also sells "HCP wallets". While the manual is pretty helpful (it contains permit laws for all 50 states and is updated every year), I kind of chuckle at the HCP wallet thing. But that's just me. Some folks have a problem with Gene... I don't know the man well enough to cast judgement.   Re-reading your post, I'm wondering if you were being sarcastic and I just missed it. :stunned:
  20. Unfortunately for him, the "LEO" in question will ultimately get his comeuppance one day, most likely at the hands of someone who doesn't give a flip about a badge of any kind. Arrogance and bravado of this type often lead one to make crucial mistakes due to overconfidence and foolhardiness.   That is, if he wasn't just trolling for attention.   LEO? possibly. Troll? definitely. Foolhardy Idiot? Most assuredly.
  21. I have a T-shirt with this on it.
  22.   Now see what ya did? Got us all excited for nothin'! :panic:  :hyper:
  23. Of course they do. Here is a picture of a Mosin. The location of the safety should be fairly obvious even to the most untrained eye.
