  1. I'm partial to .357/.38spc myself-- I can shoot mine relatively cheaply at the range when using .38 special, but since you mention hog hunting, you might want to move up to either .44mag or 30-30... probably 30-30 if you're set on sticking pigs.   with a $1000 to work with, I agree with DaveTN-- either a new Henry or a nice vintage Winchester.
  2.   Yup. I know the shop you're talking about-- and the pricing scheme is just as you stated. Not necessarily bad, though-- it gives you haggle room!
  3.     Sounds like we need a fella like you to take a bunch of folks from Capitol Hill and educate them on firearms and 2A! Might change a few minds in the process...
  4. That's great! :usa:
  5. I use a shoulder holster quite a bit during the winter. Although I have practiced deployment from it quite a bit, it does take some getting used to. Mine is a horizontal draw, and I'm not crazy about the fact that I'm muzzle-sweeping the whole room behind me (albeit concealed) each time I wear it. Even so, horizontal carry is usually considered much faster than vertical carry. Definitely not for everyone.
  6. Apparently, Darden is denying claims that Red Lobster will "close"... but a spinoff sale seems to be in the making.   http://abcnews.go.com/Business/false-alarm-red-lobster-closing/story?id=21351799
  7.   Gregintenn is correct.   Shadow Warrior Military Surplus-- 515 TN Hwy 25-- that's at the intersection of Hwy 25 and US 231-- about 15 minutes north of Lebanon-- take ya about 45-50 minutes to get there and it's a straight shot up 231. Their phone number is (615) 374-4229. They've been there for many years now.
  8. For reusable plugs, an old toothbrush dipped in hydrogen peroxide does a great job.   Hydrogen peroxide emulsifies earwax like nobody's business-- I only wish it smelled more like Hoppe's #9. :)
  9. My DEEP south roots are showing.
  10. Yup.   That's pretty much what my brothers and I do at Thanksgiving.   After a running a few rounds through a Mosin, especially several going off at once, you have to wonder if there were any Russian soldiers that could still hear at all by the end of WWII. I can't imagine shooting these guns without some sort of hearing protection. With the M44s, even WITH hearing protection the soundwave concussion can still easily be felt.
  11. Giving my son (age 23) the following:   a full brick of Remington Subsonic .22cal LR a gun case and a new Henry .22 lever-action rifle. He's getting the Henry because every time we go to the range I never get to shoot mine because he monopolizes it. So now he'll have one "just like ol' Dad's."   My fiance' is also giving him a spam can of 7.62x54 for his Mosin,   I guess he'll have a pretty decent Christmas.
  12. Remember the dust kicked up back in July about the filmed DUI stop in Murfreesboro?   (discussed on TGO in this thread): http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/67424-murfreesboro-dui-checkpoint-video-making-its-way-across-the-web/?hl=murfreesboro   Looks like the Governor's office of Highway Safety has awarded Deputy Ross a rather ubiquitous honor.   read about it here: http://wgnsradio.com/update-rutherford-county-sheriff-deputy-who-was-in-youtube-video-a-j-ross-is-deputy-of-the-year-cms-16913   :usa:
  13. I gave my son a Mosin 91/30 for Christmas last year. He loved shooting mine, so he wanted one for himself. He got to fully experience the hassle of resurrecting one from its arsenal-soaked-in-cosmoline state-- I thought that would make him appreciate it a wee bit more. I walked him through the complete tear-down, clean-up and reassembly process so that he would have a better understanding of the rifle. Anyway, first time at the range with his new baby, there are 2 guys there shooting ARs and one kid with a .22 rifle. My son selects a shooting bay a few benches away from them, nonchalantly unpacks his Mosin, loads it with a stripper clip, actuates the bolt, takes aim, and BOOOM!-- just like a Mosin. The two AR guys whip their heads around, and one of 'em says "Wow! I know that sound--nothing else sounds quite like a Mosin Nagant!" You should have seen the grin on my son's face. Here's a picture taken that afternoon (I'm the good-looking one on the right):
  14. It's a damn shame about what happened to this guy, which now gives me TWO reasons why I never darken their door--   1) gun free zone. 2) stupid staff.   They certainly don't need my $$$.
  15. Welcome to TGO. Enjoy the buffet.
  16. As a long-ago refugee from Alabama myself, welcome to TGO.
  17. Frothing-at-the-mouth rabid Gun-control freaks just LOVE empty "clips" because they're less scary and all that...   Don't give 'em the satisfaction-- keep those mags loaded and ready-- especially those "hi-cap" mags! :tough:
  18.   Well, it would be even more awesome if it also came with 500 rnds. of ammo. Hey, we can always dream, can't we?
  19.     Congrats-- Now for next year, maybe you should fawn all over a Barrett M107A1 at Thanksgiving... think they'll get the hint then?
  20.   With the size of your ammo cache, your bunker must be the size of a missle silo. :usa:
  21.   You should try lifting a full 40mm can. :stare:
  22.   By the way, your new avatar looks disturbingly like the love child of Salvador Dali and Mr. Peanut...
  23.   oh, behave.   It's a good thing we're talking about flashlights. Seriously-- 150 lumens in a pocket-sized light barely larger than a 3.5 inch 12gauge magnum shell is nothing to sneeze at. Mine is the AA-powered version-- they make the exact same light in a 123-powered version that is rated at over 200 lumens.
  24. Can't go wrong with a Henry H001M or H004M-- "load on Sunday, shoot all week."
  25. My daily carry is a Klarus P1A. It's been very reliable, and 150 lumens in a 4-inch package is plenty for me for daily use.
