I've used the Hackett Brothers for over 20 years. Very reputable, and very reliable. And while they may make an assessment of other possible issues with the vehicle, they will not proceed to fix anything without your OK. I've even had them point out an issue and show me how I could fix it myself without incurring their shop & labor fees.... not something you see very often. A good mechanic is like gold-- hard to find, and well worth keeping when you do. I can't recommend Hackett Brothers enough-- I've given them many a (unpaid) referral over the years. Keep in mind that you won't find shade-tree labor prices-- they're flat-rate book on labor like most anyone else-- but the quality of their work isn't shade-tree either. Plus, they warranty their work, and stand behind it without question. I know first-hand.

Hi folks-- haven't been on here in several months. No, nobody ticked me off or anything like that, just had some things going on and needed a little break from the forum scene, so I took a sabbatical for a bit from several forums to which I belong. In the meantime, picked up a few new "toys", and have been enjoying running them through their paces at the range. Good to be back-- now I've got pages and pages of topics to catch up on.

So in the photo, are you on the left or the right?

No worries-- there are no plans to close the current location.

There is nobody alive that I would want to see bad enough to submit to a vehicle search, but that's just me. Have fun though.

I assure you-- there are more than enough interested NRA members within one county's distance (Rutherford, Cannon, Bedford, Coffee, Williamson, Wilson, and to a lesser extent--Davidson) who will drive to this new facility to use it. They will have no problems filling lanes with an NRA-only policy. As they are a private business, I have no problem with this policy if that's the route they choose. Hopefully it will help minimize the "stupid" factor that you see in the lanes so often at the "other" indoor range in Murfreesboro, which is why I no longer go there. But yes-- very good points about making provisions for GOA and SAF-- both very worthy organizations.

Since they are projecting a 27,000 sq. ft. building, I would imagine that the range would be a decent size. By comparison, their current retail location is between 6000-7000 sq. ft. Even so, considering that it will be an indoor range, I would imagine that the lane distance would be comparable to that of Nashville Armory, which allows longarms. There's certainly no room for a 100 yd. range indoors. The proposed location is on W. Castle St., which is the street that runs behind Budget Brakes on Broad St. (near the intersection of Broad & Church St.) I read the part about being able to fire a Barrett 50 as well-- if that's in their plan, they must be building one hell of a backstop.

What's this? All my "likes" are gone! How will I ever win "TGO'er of the Year" now??? Nah, just kidding. Everything looks great and seems to be working fine on this end. Thanks for your diligence, David. -
Thanks-- will check them out tomorrow evening.

Can I get some suggestions on which liquor store in the Chattanooga area has the "best" (or most diverse) selection of Single Malt Scotch? Working down here for the week, and it's gonna be a long one.

Got in without a pw reset. Lucky me. So far, looks pretty good with Firefox 46.

Here's another out-of-the-way Tennessee mystery place which may be unfamiliar to most people, but very familiar (bordering on legendary) to folks in Memphis...
-
Twin Arches is correct, and the bridge is the old O&W railroad bridge, also located in Big South Fork park, about 1 mile south of Leatherwood Ford.
-
Nope. Both of these pictures are definitely in Tennessee. ;) Good guess though.

#1 is the old Walter Hill Dam power station just north of Murfreesboro on the Stones River. If you're looking for cool places to visit/hike in Tennessee, here's another one, one of my favorites in the fall-- I'm sure that at least a couple of folks on here know where this is... And just a couple of miles away from there is this...

I thought once you got enough warning points you could trade 'em in for a slightly used Cobra or Hi-Point??? Have I been lied to?

I doubt any "crap" will be started by BLM... since it appears that the homeowner and the burglar were of the same race. All you'll get is SILENCE from BLM on this one... no white people to protest against, more importantly, nothing for the mainstream media to exploit. -
Right now I'm listening to a throwback to my freshman year in college-- https://youtu.be/sTFVMMCwsss

One of the best freakin' "new" artists I've heard in a long time... It's like 1960's Stax/Volt Memphis Soul sound all over again... In fact the album was recorded at the rebuilt Stax Studio, and man, did they nail "the sound". https://youtu.be/1iAYhQsQhSY https://youtu.be/AzqmVa6n-es

Drive out there, take your Toys, pay your 5 bucks, and shoot all day until sundown... and clean up your mess. I don't recommend shooting tannerite in the shotgun/hi power pit, though... it's a little to close for comfort.

OK Corral in Woodbury has an outdoor shotgun/hi power pit... bring your own targets and have at it.

My questions are-- What town is she located in, and is she accepting new patients? Sounds like my kind of MD. :usa:

I own several Mosins, and I've never heard of any short-term issues with dry-firing. As you say, they are pretty rugged and, while not totally indestructible, they were designed to take lots and lots of abuse. The biggest issue I can see with continued repeated dry-firing is the potential to cause issues with firing pin over-penetration due to a weakened or damaged pin spring or mis-calibrated firing pin shaft (the screw adjustment at very the rear of the bolt), and possible headspace issues if the bolt is worn or mis-matched to the firearm. Headspace can be checked or monitored with headspace gauges, and the firing pin penetration depth can be easily checked as go/no go with the standard Mosin multi-tool. Granted, the issues I mention are pretty rare with most arsenal-refurbished examples, but if the serial number on the bolt doesn't match the number on the barrel, it's not a bad idea to check the headspace just to be on the safe side. Of course, the phrase "continued repeated dry-firing" is somewhat subjective, occasional dry-fire sighting practice and dry-firing during the cleaning/ ops-check procedure shouldn't be an issue at all. As far as cleaning the cosmoline, it's a great father/son project-- I did the same with my son when I gave him a Mosin for Christmas when he was 21. He truly learned to appreciate the benefits of a thorough cleaning job, and in turn it fostered in him a sense of responsibility and diligence in terms of general firearms maintenance.

Already a lifer, I'm waffling on the $200 endowment upgrade right now... even so, I know that the upgrade "harassment" via email and snail mail will never end... it just goes to the next level...and the next level...and the next level. Yeah, I could cut off the mail, but I'm not ready to do that yet.
