URGENT - Permit-less Car Carry in the Senate Tomorrow
tartanphantom replied to wk05's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
my thoughts exactly. If they become law one way or the other, it will be due to political expediency, not because he approves of them. -
IMHO most Canadian whiskey = very overrated, and they are popular largely due to longtime market presence (since prohibition) and heavy advertising. I know there's probably some good small-batch stuff out there, but for $75 I'd rather spend it on a good single-malt scotch or single barrel bourbon. Apologies to those of you who like that Canadian rye stuff.

Glad to see that someone is more optimistic than me on this. I don't trust him as far as I can throw a Pilot tanker truck. -
hmmmm. makes you think, don't it?

$50 transfer fee? You're at the wrong store. There's a shop in Murfreesboro with a transfer fee half of that. There's one in Rivergate (who is a sponsor here) with a transfer fee even lower than that for TGO members. I'm not saying you need to make a special trip, but in this day & age a $50 transfer fee is akin to charging 20 cents per round for standard .22LR-- it's unnecessary given all the competition out there. Drive a little, save a lot.

Generally I take mine neat at room temperature, with just enough of a splash of distilled water (no more than 1/2 tsp) to liberate the nose on the whisky and give it some legs on the glass. When I drink water, I drink water. When I drink whisky, I drink whisky.

My Lyman manual (49th ed.) recommends a start of 4.4gr with a maximum measure of 5.8gr when using Unique with a 115gr. JHP. Don't know how different that is from your recipe.

It's a trade-off-- Tornadoes come through fast and hard, and the damage is usually a pretty tightly defined area. The tornado comes through, the damage is done, and cleanup begins afterwards-- all in fairly short order. Quite unlike government and politics in the northeast-- where the damage is done slowly but in a deliberate, often subversive fashion, and cleanup can take many, many years-- if it ever happens at all. Having lived in the south most of my life (I did spend a 3-year stint living in the northeast), I'll take my chances living with tornadoes over life in the totalitarian northeast "blue states" every time. Also, if you are following the tornado info on either the Weather Channel or CNN, keep in mind that they both have vested interest in creating "reality TV drama" out of any weather event. It's about the only time they ever report on anything in flyover country, and usually their coverage is the broadcast equivalent of crying "wolf".

Very well said.

For home defense, the Mosin makes the best bludgeon/club hands-down. It also allows you to shoot two intruders simultaneously with the same shot-- the one in your house, and the one in your neighbor's house three blocks over. Did I mention that the Mosin bayonet is handy for backyard marshmallow roasts? Be sure to wipe down the powder residue first...

I don't normally put anything in my coffee except the occasional shot of irish whisky, but this picture now has me re-thinking the whole latte thing...

Wife's birthday is Saturday... Restaurant suggestions?
tartanphantom replied to Metalhead's topic in General Chat
If you haven't been to it yet, you definitely need to visit The Southern. http://thesouthernnashville.com/ And the smoked deviled eggs are absolutely killer as an appetizer. -
Sounds like a backwoods version of turkish coffee. :) quite popular at civil war encampments, too.
-
When in doubt, there's always the alternative. Send it to coffee maker heaven.

This (Keurig) when I'm really in a hurry (with my own blend, of course): And THIS when I'm not in a hurry.... I have yet to find anything that makes coffee better than a french press. You all can keep your lousy Wal-mart drip machines :hiding: -- a good cup of coffee is well worth the wait.

I have the Black Widow in 22WMR (2" barrel) and it goes with me almost everywhere. The short barrel is not as much a concern with the newer .22WMR defense ammo out there (Speer, Hornady, etc)-- which is designed specifically for these little firearms. Should it replace your primary defensive sidearm? No. But is it better than a sharp stick? Oh yeah. These guns were designed for "up close & personal" work. Here's an example: http://youtu.be/q-cqNCGnx_o

Anybody want to go shooting at the OK Corral Saturday?
tartanphantom replied to musicman's topic in General Chat
Not so much any more. There are three separate pistol range areas now, with one dedicated specifically to HCP classes. Usually not a problem finding room on the other two. -
Parking spot for prom night in Murfreesboro?
tartanphantom replied to wileecoyote's topic in General Chat
I've racked my brain, but since I haven't been "parking" in years, I can't come up with anything remotely romantic around here. The dynamics change a bit once you've had your own place for 30 years. Oh sure, I can think of a half a dozen empty fields, very secluded rec. areas, lonely country roads and low-traffic parking lots, but not much in the way of a romantic setting. Google "Stones River Artillery monument" or McFadden farm, Van Cleave Lane (the monument is located here-- completely separate from the Battlefield park)-- that's pretty off the beaten path, but still in town, it has a gate, but is not always closed like it should be. -
Open Carry Without a Permit
tartanphantom replied to ezrydr's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
"shall not be infringed." No exceptions were written into the 2nd amendment. And anyone with a decent grasp of proper English would know that the first clause ("A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state") is entirely dependent on the second clause ("the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed") Unfortunately, most average folks with barely 6th grade-level comprehension skills have it backwards, simply because the first clause physically precedes the second-- this give the misconception that the latter clause is dependent on the former. Remember. no exceptions are listed. As stated here by others, if you want to "condition" the rights protected in the 2nd amendment, then they are technically no longer rights. Keep in mind that the 2nd amendment only protects rights, it does not grant them. These rights are extant and exist without the need for a piece of paper. -

The cemetery closes at dusk. Unfortunately, there's not too many places within the city limits that aren't patrolled by MPD, Sheriff's Dept. or campus police-- any of which will tell to move along in a rather matter-of-fact manner. There are some places on the outskirts of town, but unless you live here directions would be rather difficult. -

URGENT - Permit-less Car Carry in the Senate Tomorrow
tartanphantom replied to wk05's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
By using the logic in your argument, it implies that we should not keep firearms in our home either... Heaven forbid that someone break into one's home, steal a gun, and use it in the commission of a crime. Again by your logic, one may not be charged with the commission of a crime, but one may still face the possibility of a lawsuit. Try explaining that one away... Most consumer-quality gun safes are no more secure than a locked vehicle-- a sawz-all with a proper blade and a crowbar can make speedy work of many so-called gun safes-- just like a slim-jim and a screwdriver can do for a car. Sorry, but a straw-man argument doesn't work in this situation. The risk for theft of a firearm is certainly not limited to automobiles. I'll just have to agree to disagree with your logic on this one. I'm sure you have your personal reasons for concern and I respect that, but the theoretical example you give doesn't really work as a valid reason for not being able to defend oneself while traveling. Oh, and even though I disagree with you on this, thank you for your LEO service (really). :usa: -
It is funny how things like one's taste in music can change over time.

Not weird at all... it just makes your avatar that much more appropriate. :D
