  1. She made the top fold/front page of today's Sunday edition  Murfreesboro Daily News Journal! Huge photo of her with her Sig (lady pictured in the purple shirt), and a nice (albeit "rare") pro-firearms article in a Gannett paper... She's definitely a keeper-- never have to worry about getting "nagged" for buying a new gun or ammo... Guns are a family thing around here... and she's an absolute dead-eye with a pistol.   She started a chapter of "The Well Armed Woman" in Murfreesboro back in January, and has been very pleased with her success.   here's a link to the article:   http://www.dnj.com/article/20140601/LIFESTYLE/306010029/Well-armed-women-More-females-receive-carry-permits-attend-classes-gun-safety   Of course, the usual milktoast whiners are all in a tizzy in the comments section of the article. I laugh at them.
  2. Thanks for the link, Yard Dog.   Not a handgun, and not nearly as ingenious as the one in OP's link, but still a 7-shot flintlock, and one of my favorites: My shoulder and collarbone hurt just from watching the slo-mo vid section.   http://youtu.be/2ZS8A5PbsqU
  3. sounds like you've already done your online homework!
  4. That makes it easy... with everything else having guessed and missed, my money is on these... now I know why you've waited so long to tell us...
  5.   Just checked through Davidson's Gun Genie-- price for zip code 38053 (Millington)-- If you order a regular Bersa UC45 through Gun Genie you can pick it up at AJ's Gun Shop in Atoka for $515 total out-the-door price (including taxes and all fees). Of course, the drawback is that you can't actually put your hands on it beforehand, which may be important to you.   Not quite as cheap as Bud's price-wise, but Davidson's has an excellent lifetime replacement guarantee policy for ANY new gun bought through them, and they do back it up-- I know from firsthand experience.   just making it clear that I do NOT work for Davidson's and I am not connected to them in any way, other than being a very satisfied customer. Note to moderators: if this post sounds too much like an advertisement, let me know and I will edit or delete it.
  6. They must have locked it up since they weren't getting the results they wanted. It will let me vote, but stalls and will not load the results after I press the "vote" button.
  7. I have two UCP45's. Accurate, reliable, and still trouble-free after approx. 750 rounds through each. It's one of my favorite compact 45's. I don't own the UC9, but I have shot them. Virtually identical to the UCP45, but with different recoil characteristics and a larger magazine capacity. I'm accustomed to the SA/DA action, so it's not a problem for me. Besides, the DA trigger pull is heavy enough that carrying it with the safety off is not a problem if that is a concern. The SA trigger reset is pretty sweet.   Also, keep in mind that the UC series has combat sights, not traditional 6 o'clock sights. Many times people complain about them shooting low... until they discover that they are using the wrong sight picture.
  8. No gun forum is complete without a Mosin Nagant thread... even if it IS a resurrected thread...
  9. Unfortunately, a society is no better than its lowest common denominator.
  10.   As I understand it, Freedom Group still holds the reigns at Remington. Hence, all of these FG brands being moved to Huntsville. Cerberus is the one that bailed-- divesting the assets of FG.
  11. We already knew about Remington's new Huntsville facility, which opened earlier this year. But recently there has been a whole lot of info, rumors, hearsay, etc. regarding consolidation within Big Green.   I found this pretty interesting-- looks like they're moving a whole bunch of stuff to Huntsville, not just 1911's and AR's... I consider this pretty good news-- even if Freedom Group is still calling the shots.   Of course, Remington has yet to make an "official statement."   http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/05/15/breaking-news-facts-remington-consolidation/
  12.   The most critical element in successful pipesmoking is learning how to properly pack the bowl, followed closely by learning how to puff. If you are a cigarette smoker, you will have to completely re-learn your method of puffing-- with a pipe it's a marathon, not a sprint.   If it will not stay lit more than 5 seconds, you definitely have issues with packing the bowl correctly. As I stated above, a good pipe tool will help, as the pick can be used to clear a clogged airway, and can also be used to create a "flue" in the tobacco if the bowl is packed too tight.
  13. "Shave??? What's that?" says the guy with the tactical beard...
  14. There was a recent in-depth discussion of pipes a few months back. Here's the link:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/74575-pipes-cigars/   I've been a pipe smoker for many, many years, and I've got pipes ranging in price from $5.00 corncobs to $500 straight-grain Algerian briars.    nightrunner-- I live in Murfreesboro, and would be glad to discuss pipes & tobacco any time. Choice of briar and tobacco is very much a personal thing-- what one person likes, another may abhor. I'm a big fan of non-aromatic English and Balkan blends, as well as Virginia blends. However, I've never been big on aromatic (flavored) blends, even though I will smoke one on rare occasion.   probably the most helpful low-cost accessory you can buy is what is known as a "Czech pipe tool". They are super cheap, and combine a tamper, pick, and bowl spoon/scraper in one convenient little package. The tamper is a must-have tool, the pick is useful for clearing the airway, and the spoon/scraper is useful for removing ash and unsmoked tobacco from the bowl without damaging the bowl. You can usually pick one up for under $5.00.   In Rutherford County, we haven't had a "great" pipe shop since Three-Ten Pipes in Murfreesboro closed several years ago... however, we do have The Humidor, a newer shop on the square in Murfreesboro. Although they are more focused on cigars, Mike (the proprietor) does keep a very nice selection of inexpensive ($25-75) pipes and he also maintains a pretty darn good tobacco selection.   Oh, and Chris is correct-- Neerups and Eriksens are very reasonably priced and hard to beat for the money.
  15. Hey DB, I just spewed coffee all over my computer...
  16. The corny radio commercial that they've used for half a dozen years, with the Deliverance-style banjo music and insipid jingle singers:   "♪♫♪ Bill Goodman's... Gun & Knife Show...♪♫♪" "♪♫♪ Call a buddy, bring a friend!♪♫♪"   is enough reason in itself for me to never go back. The producer of that commercial needs to volunteer at one of the local ranges--- as a target.
  17. Maine is the #1 producer of wooden toothpicks in the US.   7 pallets of toothpicks is one heck of a "group buy"! :stunned:   Other than that, 7 pallets of live lobster would surely spoil in a warehouse.
  18. 1400 lbs. of "widgets" on each pallet.
  19.   That's a hell of a lot of .22LR-- where'd ya get it? Smuggled across the Canadian border? :hyper:
  20. Guitar--->cable--->amp--->dime it. Done. (pedals in the background ain't mine!)
  21.   Academy in Mt Juliet is 11 miles from the center of Donelson... 3 interstate exits away is too far??? Academy in Rivergate is 14 miles away. Bass Pro Shop is substantially less than 10 miles away (one exit away) and they have rifle cases come outta their rear... I'd drive much further than that just to avoid Walmart.  But hey, it's your money... good luck.
  22.   Yeah, that was a typo on my part... darn public school math...
  23.   Judging by the bill status page, all indications would be that this became law on 4/18/14-- without his signature.
  24.   What's the bill number on the preemption bill?
  25. Thumbs-up on choosing the M&P-- welcome to TGO and good luck on your HCP class/range test. It's not as difficult as you might think.
