Interesting that the honey topic came up on here today because I was just reading an article on it the morning. Seems legit to me.

As jonathon said, yes but I've run the math on it many times for pistol and rifle brass and it's hard to make sense of it. It takes a lot of time to clean and sort brass plus time spent sitting at gun shows not to mention the expense of gas to get there and table fees and such. Most if not all of the brass on the gov auctions have crimped primer pockets which brings the value down in most folks mind. I can buy mixed brass fired indoors for less than I've ever seen one of these auctions go for and I still haven't been able to fool myself into trying it. I may give it a shot some day but it won't be at gun shows.

Minn. man convicted of murder in home invasion
Luke E. replied to midtennchip's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
We all "plan ahead" such as if I hear someone coming through the front door I will_____ to defend my family or if I hear window busted on the backside of the house I will_____ to defend my family but that much different than hearing one of those sounds and setting up for the kill all the while rubbing your palms together with insane happiness. This guy was as guilty as the teens were I think and I believe the conviction was correct. The insanity deals are in fact insane themselves because if we let murderers on by reason of insanity then we most assuredly have to let them all plead insanity because anyone that makes the decision to kill when another option could easily replace it is insane. -
This was my point exactly. While I may not always have more extreme items with me I certainly won't let not knowing what to do with them stop me from owning them for just the reason you mentioned. I also would not attempt to use anything that I do not have any idea how to use even if I have it.

I had heard that but the source wasn't one that I trusted 100%. That's quite dangerous because even though most that are active on TGO have enough common sense to know better i'd say that there is an insanely high percentage that are ignorant whether willfully or come by it honestly it's quite dangerous. I've always mentioned the muzzle device because I always hear folks say that the only difference is the barrel. I saw some barrels at the 'Boro show Sat. that ranged from $99-$120 with A2 sight on them. They were pistol length and carbine length 5.56 and 300aac barrels and I thought that was a smokin' deal if match grade accuracy wasn't a must.

Very nice list! Most of my items were given by physicians so I took what I could get. I'm building upon those as I think of things I need but your list brought some things to mind. Awesome link you provided.

In my some what informal testing cast bullets will penetrate when jacketed round will not. I was firing cast lead bullets from a 1911 at 100 and 130yds and was sinking them through a 3/8" steel plate every time while the jacketed rounds from the same pistol would just "pop" and leave a little gray poof of dust. also while shooting at the same steel plate at the same distance I ran some 5.56 through an AR which acted exactly as the jacketed .45 rounds. This plate was NOT AR plate so YMMV but I mention it just as a comparison. I don't own plates or a carrier at this time but have been looking into them. A guy at the Murfreesboro gun show this weekend quoted me a pretty good price (maybe?) on a carrier with front and back 3a shooters plates for $400 otd. I have not looked into what he was offering as he didn't have any more plates with him and doesn't have them on his website but says he does have them. It worked out to $200 for the soft carrier and $200 for the set of front and back ceramic plates. Like I said I'm unclear of the age of the plates so you'd have to contact him yourself but here's his web address www.tacoutdoors.com He did mention the website was being setup presently so i'm not sure whats on there but his contact info should be on there if interested in making contact with the guy. If anyone here has a reason why someone shouldn't deal in "gunshow vendor plates" please speak up.

Mine is not complete but includes all typical first aid kit items and some trauma items. I'm still working on trauma/ major medical items but have some already such as sutures, scalpels, various gauze, quick clot gauze, forceps, IV tubing with saline solution just to name a few. I would like to host a weekend plinking/camp out with someone to come go over some medical how to for some local TGO members but haven't gotten around to setting it up yet. I can use most items that I have in my kit so far but I would never let lack of knowing how to use or administer something stop me from having it in my kit because if I (or anyone else) get hurt and there happens to a nurse, ems, doctor or even a fire fighter around, i'd sure like to have anything they need there at their disposal. It's at least fairly common to hear of an automobile accident or some other emergency that happens where it just so happens that one of the by standers happen to work in the medical field.

This may be painfully obvious to most and one would have to go through some trouble to do it but you will need a 30cal muzzle device. I mention this because I overheard a guy in a gun shop talking about having his flash hider opened up and rethreaded to thread on the new barrel. A 30cal bullet coming upon major resistance when attempting to swage it with a 5.56 muzzle device would make an awful mess and all to save a few bucks over buying a new one.

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the tasers/rambo knife/flashlight combos? Maybe it has to do with my years of tending bar and being around security playing with them but any time I hear one fire up I want to take it away from the person playing with it and zap them. I think it would help if the promoters would cull some of the chinese garbage dealer out of the lineup.

I NEVER go to shows to buy a firearm, ever. I go to get supplies from David if he's in the boro when i'm needing something to save me a trip to his place and every now and then I will pick up accessory items if one of the vendors happens to have a killer deal on something that I might have a use for. I didn't even need supplies this weekend but was in the area and had a bit of time to kill so went in to say hello to David and cruise through the rows real quick. I think the biggest reasons for the decline have already been touched on in this thread but I see it as being a combination of to many shows in the same area, mostly new firearms (can find new arms anywhere) and FFL's can only sell them so cheap therefore the only super deals to be had would be on used arms and lastly with food, gas and other "must buys" being more expensive than ever and good paying jobs being at a premium there just isn't as much money in the "gun funds" of a lot of the past buyers.

I wish there was a "best of TGO" button available because I would click it on your post DB. -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?
Luke E. replied to Luke E.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I kinda do that with some grease. It was pretty much wiping all traces of grease from the bottom of the carrier where the mag is contacting it. Painting the whole thing white might be a good idea because it would show any weirdness on the top or sides as well like if it was slightly twisted or bowed. Just might try that next. Thanks -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?
Luke E. replied to Luke E.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
That's what I'm saying... kinda. I'm NOT going to throw it away. First off I'm to much of a pack rat for that and second is that I'll keep trying stuff with it until I figure out what the deal is. I likely won't be fooling with sending it off anywhere though. -

May have to put the crown jewel on eBay! I'm still not clear on what is causing the issue. I feel very certain now that it is the carrier but what exactly is wrong with the carrier I do not know and I'll prolly hold on to it until I figure that out. -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?

I honestly don't remember. It's just a standard mil-spec unit. It's not worth going through to much trouble since a whole new group isn't that costly. -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?

Well I could certainly remove it but since it was just hovering in space when the issue starts I don't see what it could change. I suppose it'd be worth doing before tossing it. -

LOL I have been known to sleep walk from time to time but my wife has never mention finding me using the carrier as a pry bar, chisel or any other implement of destruction. Also I know that the upper isn't the issue since all the other carriers that I have tried in it have functioned just fine. I'm like you and most of the rest on here thinking that there is no way that I've worn out or warped a carrier with only 7,500 rounds or so through it in a semi auto rifle. Weird thing is that it had been working fine and then all the sudden started acting up. Best I can remember I had run 150-200 rounds through it in the 45 minutes-1hr leading up to the start of the failures so it's not like the rifle was blistering hot or anything. -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?
Luke E. replied to Luke E.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Okay guys, I just stripped the firing pin, cam pin and bolt out of the carrier and installed only the stripped carrier with gas key installed. The carrier drags really heavily on its way back and then starts sticking after the 1st 1/4" of the carrier starts over the mag follower. It's is sticking long before the gas key is comes into contact with the tube. So that completely rules out anything to do with the bolt, bolt fitment in carrier and gas key. And the carrier is making contact with the mag body (rear of feed lips) not the follower. -

I'm checking on it right now. It seems the bolt is much looser in the carrier on the problem bcg. -
Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?
Luke E. replied to Luke E.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I dropped a new cam pin in it and it didn't seem to make any difference. I've kept the carbon cleaned out of the carrier bore where the bolt slides in and before I went out and fooled with it last I soaked it and took the scraping tool to it and it is pretty well spotless. I agree that it shouldn't be worn out after so few a numbers of rounds and part of me keeps thinking that i'll find something silly that is the cause. I'm not making it home tonight so it'll be at least tomorrow night before i'm back around it again. As far as one looking like it's been dragged behind a truck this one will disappoint you because it really doesn't look that bad.
