  1.  Are these photos blocked for anyone else? Even when I click on the spaces that they should be showing up, I get re-directed to a page saying that the pictures have been found to be malware and part of a file sharing website. I'm just curious as to whether this is my computer, my connection (we're currently in a rented beach house so IDK) or if it's doing this for everyone?     EDIT: My father in law has just informed me that it is due to the the way that the internet is configured here. I'm going to start looking around to see if they have all my options "communized"
  2. That's not always the case. A huge percentage of folks that are taking the HCP course seem to be quite green. You are kind of correct when it comes to the range portion of the class in that they are all held to the same standard no matter how cheap or expensive they are. The difference is that typically the more expensive = smaller class size and the cheaper they get the more folks there are in the class. Some of these guys will have 30+ students in a class so it's almost impossible for anyone needing attention, to get it unless the class runs really long. Another difference I've noticed is the classroom portion, not always but a lot of times is not quite as thourough as most folks need. This tends to be more prevalent in the lower end classes, either because the budget instructor isn't as savvy, is running a permit mill or has such a large class that it's impossible to address all questions that everyone might have. There's always the know-it-all brown noser in the class that hogs a majority of the time anyways. As far as folks that are into guns deep enough to be participating on a gun forum goes, cheap is good. Get your permit cheap and put the rest towards some actual training. The legal resposibilities are the MOST important issues covered in the HCP course IMHO.
  3.  Are these held at Terry Waldon's place?
  4.    I have heard of crows that were fish eaters but never witnessed it in person. I guess it shows their willingness and ability to adapt.
  5. I'm glad that got you back going again but I am still curious as to why it was happening in the first place I find it odd that Kahr would be using a different size reamer for their .45 chambers than anyone else would be but the fact that this seems to not be an isolated incident with them it kinda makes me wonder.
  6. They were priced so high here in Murfreesboro that the same can sat in the case for months. I Think its gone now but I'm pretty sure it sat for at least 3 months.
  7.    Cool.. I haven't gotten into the lever gun world yet so I guess that's why this round slipped past me. I have always liked lever guns but still have a few more things ahead on the list.
  8.    Oh,,, well stand back and watch my ignorance shine!  :surrender: I didn't realize that was the caliber rather than the model number. Is it a relatively new caliber or has it been around a while?
  9. Those 125gr Noslers you have there make excellent hunting bullets for a Blackout.. I didn't even realize Marlin made a lever gun in 308win, that's pretty much awesome!!
  10.  I sometimes use other forums as an info source on something in particular but I don't actually contribute much if anything at all to them. TGO kind of has the feel of "everyone knows each other in real life but just get on here to chat at night"
  11.   I've only been once and that was not this past Sat. but the Sat. before and the weather was perfect. Got there at 2:30-3:00 and there was one couple on the rifle range and between then and 8:30 (or whenever it was to dark to see) I don't remember there ever being more than one other shooter or couple besides us there at any given time. One guy used the carbine type rifle lane which is completely separate for about 30min and I never did see anyone use the pistol range (which had plenty of steel and barricades). Like I mentioned above, They were holding a long range class over a bean field back behind/beside the actual range area and there seemed to be 7-8 cars back there that I could see. Maybe some of those guys would have normally been up on the rifle range? IDK but overcrowding was definitely not an issue for us that day.
  12.    For those that don't know or have only used Lee's factory crimp die for rifle applications (I was part of the latter until not to long ago) the Lee Factory crimp dies for straight wall pistol calibers are different that their bottleneck counterparts. The pistol dies are actually a combination die in that they full length sized as well as crimp. My point is that since this is the last step in loading, the ammo, it should always be within SAAMI specs so long as you don't get an out of spec over sized die somehow. These things work great, especially with cast lead bullets. My mold drops at the perfect size therefor there is no need to size the bullets and can load them as cast. The only "problem" is that from time to time it will drop one bigger than the rest and that's where the carbide factory crimp die comes in handy because if the bullet happens to be a little to large and stretches the case out enough that it wouldn't chamber, the die actually sizes/swages the bullet in the case and every round is the exact same diameter. Do you have a buddy or a forum member close by that is set up to load .45? if so if might be worth loading some with their equipment so that you can rule out equipment issues. I'd offer but I doubt you'd wanna make that drive.
  13.    They were having a long range class when I was out there which i'd be interested in depending on how it is structured but carbine oriented classes are more of what I have in mind this year. If you should happen to sign up and take one please let me know how it goes or better yet give a report of your experiences.
  14.    That's the same thing I was told. They said that it was supposed to already be underway but the guy doing the excavating was backed up on another job at the moment. Another thing that caught my interest about Strategic Edge is the training they offer but I've not found anyone that has taken any of the courses he offers that I could ask about them. I've set a goal of getting more formal training this year and would like to do at least to courses so i'm still interested in that. Have you taken any of the classes, John?
  15.   ^ ^
  16. I'd be interested to know why they think you'll be wanting to switch. I personally prefer the EoTech to the aimpoint if for no other reason, it has a better field of view through the sight. To me, the only benefit to having an Aimpoint is the ridicules long battery life. Anyways, I was just joking about you needing to drag it through the gravel. Most of the folks out there are pretty agreeable and likely would have been more than happy to clear the table (I would have been). I've spread a drag bag out on that table numerous times and it's surprisingly sturdy.
  17.    I'm certain he has a method to his madness because I really don't see him doing it for fun. It is a very nice place though!    As far as concrete benches go. I've been to many ranges with concrete benches which is why I keep one of those "horse blanket" looking blankets in my truck. You can buy them for $6 at any Loves truck stop and they are the perfect size so they don't hang down to the ground and they are made of heavy material so you would have to really be trying to scratch something through it.  Do you remember seeing a very heavy duty picnic table all the way down on the right end of the shoot house? That's not there for picnics ;) climb up there and shoot prone til your hearts content.   Go ahead and drag that rifle through the gravel and get past worrying about it :)
  18.    I was there last saturday and shot until dark. I have a few friends that are members there and they like it a lot. I don't know of any hidden fees that you speak of though, It basically works out to, $200 for your first year and $150 per year after that which is due to the fact that they run background checks on every applicant and they seem to have somewhat of a "board of directors" ,for lack of a better description, that they discuss each applicant before accepting them. This only adds an extra barrier to prevent rift raft, crazys and all other manner of folk that no one wants to be around, from joining. They have a really nice set up but the range/rules is a bit up tight for my liking, such as, you have to disarm yourself or unload your carry gun before exiting you vehicle. Most of their rules were standard gun range safety fare but like I mentioned, the whole place seemed a bit up tight and I felt as though I was walking on egg shells the whole time. The only reason I am still considering joining is to have use of the longer ranges but aside from that, OK Corral is a MUCH more enjoyable place to spend time (and $5 of course).  If OK Corral is to far for you, my second suggestion would be Terry Waldon's place. He has been making improvements on the place a little at the time but it is very relaxed like The OK Corral.
  19.  Looks like he's adjusted just fine!
  20.   I guess I've never seen a Green Heron, at least that I know of, so I didn't think even consider a Heron because all of them I've seen have been substantially taller and never left me thinking that they were brilliant.
  21.    They can be cool to watch when they are flying along 20' or so above the water then dive straight going completely under. I've watched a lot of birds fishing that way down in the flats of the Gulf but I have never seen one using bait to drum them up. That bird had to first make the connection of the fish being attracted to the bread and then make the connection that it had the ability to take the bread and keep dropping it into the water until it gets the fish into the perfect position.
  22.    I have no idea. I ran across it kinda late last night and didn't take the time to backtrack the video.
  23.  It's a bit of a drive for you but if you happen to come through or close to Murfreesboro, Outpost Armory had at least a couple different flavors of 35Rem about a week ago.
