Anyone have problems with Remington Large rifle primers?
Luke E. replied to Luke E.'s topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Seems like most people I talk to that have used Tula/wolf primers love them while the ones that have never tried them tend to stick their nose up at them. -

Well I got an email from Remington. I didn't have time to read through the whole thing when it came in but they asked for a bunch of info and also want to send me a postage paid envelope to send product back for them to examine. I'm thinking that I'll knock some of the dud primers from the cases and send them along as well. This may turn into more trouble than it's worth but I guess we'll see. Either way I'm glad that I have got many Rem primers left. -

How far back are you talking about the Tula primers having a delay? I've never had any trouble with them that I can think of but I never used Tula until 2 years ago, before that I'd used a ton of Wolf though. I've been told that the Tula and Wolf primers are the same and come from the same plant, just different packaging. I have no solid evidence that this is true but I didn't argue since the boxes (case boxes) are the same other than the name. -

I didn't include this info before but after reading Grunt's post I remembered, I tried ejecting, rechambering and firing the duds a second time and none detonated even after the 2nd opportunity. -

I've used Win primers and still have several thousand of them but some may not believe me but hands down the best primers I've used have been Wolf/Tula. I think I might have had 1 dud out of thousands upon thousands that I've used to date. -

Well since it doesn't seem to be just me I think I'll swear off of them myself. -

Sounds bad enough for me to avoid them. I've not purchased a center fire cartridge in 3 years that I can remember so I won't be worried about their loaded ammo but primers are another thing. I've had a few dud rem small rifle primers over time which was already more than all other brands I've used combined but I never dreamed of having 11-12 out of 30 being bad. UPDATE: well, there is no update as I've not heard anything back yet! -
There should barely be a mark were the big groove is cut. I assume you have a set of calipers, a couple thousands worth of crimp goes a long ways.
-
I'd say it's way to tight. I use Lee factory crimp dies when I use a crimp generally but most of the times that I've used a seating/crimp die to get the crimp I set it to take the bell out of the case and just a touch more which is generally more than enough. Good to have you on board!

Outpost Armory has tons of .22 ammo on the shelf. I've been reluctant to mention it anywhere but here if fear that reselllers would happen upon it. I've already started seeing it for sale on some of the Facebook boards. Anyways, 50rd boxes of Fed American Eagle are $2.99, same brand but suppressor ammo (subsonic) $3.99 per 50rd, CCI AR ammo is $24 for a 300rd boc -Fed American Eagle are $2.99 per 50rd box -Fed American Eagle subsonic are $3.99 per 50rd box -CCI AR is $24 per 300rd box They have pretty much any flavor of CCI ammo that you can think of from high velocity down to subsonic but some of the prices aren't wonderful ($0.10 per rd) but about average these days. They have some Aguila and if I remember correctly it was priced around $0.10 per round as well. Of course they also had a vast selection of high end stuff but the price reflects it so?? They have a 1,000 round per person per day limit and can be made up of any combination. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

Nice job Robert! I see no reason to sweat any UTG negativity. Admittedly it's not top of the line gear but certain items are more than adequate in my opinion. I have one of their slim UTG Pro ? quad rails designed after the Daniel Defense rail that's narrower than it is wide, it's not currently on anything since I replaced it with a Noveske (Troy) rail but I liked it enough that i'll be putting it on another rifle of mine or using it for a budget build or something along those lines. I guess I took the long way around but my point is that I have used the DD rail that it was modeled after and I honestly can't tell much if any difference at all other than knowing that it's a shade heavier. Again, awesome job Robert!

Its actually the hardest striking gun (firing pin) that I own. In my experience, these primers should detonate with even half of the strike they're getting. I'll try to remember to post a pick of the struck primers tomorrow. I went through the brass one at the time and ran a small nail through the flash holes to ensure there was no media stuck in them so the missing flash hole isn't the case either. I know Wolf has the rep of putting out some sub par ammo but I can't believe you've run across them without flash holes!! -
I loaded up 100 rounds of .308 to zero and start learning a new rifle I picked up. 12 out of the first 30 rounds were complete failures,,, nothing but the firing pin smacking the primer. It's definitely not a light strike issue so??? I wrote an email to Remington so we'll see what they have to say if I even get a response.

I'm not sure I'd be spreading where I was getting my Heroin around on social sights. ;)

Have you checked with Alien Gear? I do not own one of their holsters yet but have handled one and know a few that do own them and I'll say from what I know of them they are top notch. They are more than reasonably priced and if you ever switch pistols you can send the molded kydex portion back and they'll send you the one for your new pistol free of charge. They are a Crossbreed style holster and will definitely be my next. They are a small business that have experienced some growing pains of the last year due to massively increased demand but they may have that all worked out by now. All holsters are made to order and I think they say 2 weeks delivery time but I know one guy that had his in a week, I've also seen people on their FB page complain of longer wait times but it seems they were warned of possible delays before hand yet still expected that their holster wouldn't be the one delayed. If you're in a hurry or want a 100% kydex holster then going the route David linkked you to would probably be the way to go but it you're like me and prefer the leather backing then I'd look into them. I've heard really good things about the VP9's and can't wait to get my hands on one. Hope you enjoy the new toy/tool!

Finally got around to setting up my plate carrier

Yep, I reckon if I can get used to running with steel then ceramic or other lighter options should be a cakewalk. -

I like that mag pouch with 2 double stacks. I don't think I have one like that but may pick one up in order to free up some real estate without giving up mags. I guess I'd gain an extra AR mag but lose my pistol mags.. They're easy enough to find room for though. -

Not sure what size Jacob's plates are but the AR500 large shooter plates are 10lbs each per the AR500 website. I haven't weighed mine to say for sure that they way exactly that but they feel pretty close to that. -
Well I'm already sick that season is over and the fact that the weather seems to finally start getting cold enough to force them into moving during light hours just makes it worse. I'm very fortunate and glad that my deer hunting isn't over for the year since I still have at least one trip to Florida during their season but I wish I had a couple more days worth of TN hunting in this cold weather. Looks like we're leaving for FL on the 19th and our first stop will be mainly focused on pigs rather than deer. I probably won't be taking anything but a mature buck at the first property and since this property doesn't seem to be a "big" buck property I'm not really getting my hopes up. My family's land is the 2nd stop and that's where I know that I have the deer at. My Grandfather has been checking my cameras and said there are quite a few big (big for the area) bucks coming through those areas. If I get three more deer I will have hit my goal for the year and it's looking like that will be easy to achieve. Their season runs on into February so I might go back down sometime in February just to get a little more stand time. As far as what hunting comes next, I think I'll focus on coyotes pretty heavy. They have been going nuts around my hunting area and I have permission to hunt them on close to 2,000 acres there so that should be interesting.

I did know something about this but I wasn't aware that it was any car wreck that this would come into play. I was under the impression that this was the case in civil cases where there was injury or fatality involved. Now it very well could have been that the particular case that made me aware involved fatalities and I just assumed that it was limited to these types of cases.. I'm interested to see what those "in the know" here have to say.

Well in the morning I'm taking my bil out for his first time deer hunting and possibly hunting in general but I'm not sure. I'm really hoping the weather doesn't keep them in the woods because I don't have any dry accomadations in the woods. I was planning to move a pop up into some woods today but just ran outta time. I keep telling myself that since it was nasty today and supposed to be all night, maybe they'll get out for a bit first thing. I suppose we'll see.
