I guess I'm relatively "new" to these boards. I have had an account for over a year, but rarely used it. I recently became a benefactor, and thought I would introduce myself properly. Here are pics of some of my toys (including an addition I made yesterday, my Bushmaster AR) and toy room. I have not included pics of my Mosin Nagant collection, or most of my revolvers yet, but I'll get around to it. Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Voted. 60% for - 40% against. Who the hell is the 40%?? I don't believe that I've ever spoken to one of those 40%'ers. Jimmy Naifeh and his family, I suppose.

My wife will go to the range with me and her father sporadically. She's afraid of the ammo that is ejected from a semi auto from an incident where a spent (hot) cartridge landed in her shirt. I tried getting her to shoot revolvers, but she was intimidated by the ones that I owned, so I went out and bought a Charter Arms Target Pathfinder (.22) for her. She has shot it maybe 5 times. Finally, I decided that she would come around to it when she wanted, so I bought a Kimber LifeAct to carry with her for protection. Not my idea of self defense, but definately better than nothing.

I've heard that knock on the XD before, as well, but I shoot mine quite a bit, and never had acuuracy issues from it. The only problems I've ever had was FTF on reloaded LSW ammo. Using just regular RN and HP ammo, it has never been an issue. Same with my Father-in-law's XD, which was purchased the same day from the same dealer (Volunteer Ordnance) at a gun show. I also had a G19 that had serious FTF problems, as well as accuracy, and switched to a 23, and never had a problem out of it. Sometimes, just sometimes, it's the firearm, and not the shooter. As far as the Sigma goes, I have a friend that owns one. It's not any less accurate, I guess, but the trigger SUCKS. Needs some serious polishing. Also, the slide seemed like it was on sandpaper for a while. I guess when you put a couple thousand down the barrel like my friend did, it smooths the slide up pretty well. lol

Welcome, stevek. I've always hated that the Navy claimed the corpsmen, because they are as fine as the Marines they worked with. They have a foul sense of humor as well. I had suffered a broken nose during a training excercise, and our "F.A." Corpsman (I'm sure you know what the F.A. stands for, if you had been around us for long) tells me, "Well, not too much I can do for that. I will tell you, though, not to pick your nose to hard, or you'll never be able to see out of your left eye." He was a compassionate and caring person. . . . . .LOL!

I've seen the same thing with primers down here in the Chattanooga Sportsman's Warehouse. I was told that they would have a shipment coming in on a certain day, so I show up. Lo and Behold, empty shelves, a sight that has become commonplace here. I ask about their primers, and was told "The truck came in earlier. Some guy bought 1,000, and a store employee bought the other 4,000."

Has anyone experienced a refusal to use the TGO face-to-face form?

No way do I give out ALL of that personal info. I have no problem providing my name, number, and answer that I am legally allowed to own a firearm. More than that is just too much personal info to be handing out to strangers. If someone doesn't want to sell a firearm to me because of that, so be it. -
The Barrett .416 is a single shot bolt gun. Pretty cool from the article I read about it.

Here's a question, not meaning to rile anyone up, BUT, do you expect your company to train you with tools that you were supposed to be familiar with before you were hired ? When I went to work for the company I am with, I had to meet the requirements of the job. There are basic tools to every job, and anyone hoping to be employed in their chosen career field should be proficient with those tools. Now, if the company adds a new tool, then it should be their responsibility to the employees to provide the required training for that tool. example: I work as a developmental engineer for a certain company, and was required to have experience with a mass spectrometer for employment. I did, I was hired. Later on, the company added the newest, latest, and greatest, an ICP-MS. No one in our company had experience with it, because it had an operating system that was new to the field. I was trained accordingly with a technician from the company that produced the ICP. When a LEO is hired into his profession, they usually have had training with the service pistol for their particular area. They should be knowledgeable with the weapon to gain employment. If the service weapon is changed, then I would see a need to re-train. And, above all, let's not forget personal, individual responsibility. just my 2 cents.

Another thing I've looked at is the reloading data. It shows bullet weights ranging from 75gr to 120gr. Is this caliber like most others, where the "sweet spot" for the bullet weight is really somewhere in the middle? Just curious as to how the gun reacts with bullets from both ends of the scale. The rifling is a 1-10" twist, so I think it would support the heavier bullets a little better, but, once again, I have no hands on experience with this caliber.

Yeah, I knew it was the entry level gun for Weatherby, but I thought the price to value ratio was pretty outstanding on the Vanguard compared to (as you said) a lot of the other "Big Name" manufacturers. I may look at the Mark V, though. Anyway, the caliber is very impressive to me. I hadn't ever paid much attention to the 25 caliber guns until now.

Mayor Young? Last I heard, you get hauled off if you open fire up here on the mountain. The News reports (usually propaganda, anyway) is that it is still ILLEGAL to discharge a firearm inside city limits.

I've been browsing around, looking for something a little different. Anyway, I have been looking really hard at the ballistics and energy produced by the .257 Weatherby magnum. They are astounding, just to be quite honest, which leads me to my question: Can anyone give me any real world info on this caliber? The gun in question is the Weatherby Vanguard chambered in the aforementioned caliber. I'm looking at such things as handling, accuracy (WBY promises a cold 1 1/2" 3 shot group), barrel life, and reliability. Hell, for that matter, just educated opinions on it! Thanks!

I agree Memphis. I shoot reloads out of my Glock 23 constantly. Never had trouble, just don't shoot LEAD out of it.

lol, I've just been collecting for a long long long time. I don't trade or sell, i put away. pack rat issues I guess. I have guns ranging from the $100 single shot H&R 12 gauges all the way up to my Sako 75 .308 w/ Zeiss optics, and of course everything in between. A lot of my firearms are Enfields and Mosin-Nagants, because I enjoy WWII memorabilia. But make no mistake, they are all in great shooting condition. By the way, I grew up a Cold War kid. We were well stocked for the Russians LOL!

hmmm, not quite sure what's wrong with it. Maybe I should clarify: it's a rossi .357 mag single shot rifle. By the way, I'll post pics of more of my weapons later today. I think I have photo's of 10 more. Eventually I'll post a pic or two of all 51 of 'em.

Ya know, I don't really know for sure when I started teaching my boy. It wasn't a conscious decision, he's just been around it all of his life. He has been shooting with me since he was 5, and finally got a rifle of his very own, a mossberg 702, for Christmas. We have added another rifle to his arsenal since then as well, a Rossi single shot .357 rifle that I purchased in February. The furniture was kinda banged up, but the bore and rifling were very strong. We made it a father - son project to refinish the stock and finish, and we had it ready for him to shoot in early March. This is something that my son has been steeped in, as I was growing up. He helps me reload as well as helping me with all the gunsmithing duties. I believe it is something that has brought us closer. The time outdoors shooting and fishing, and the time at home working on the guns, building 'em up from nearly garbage to great shooters. Sure beats spending time in front of the TV with him! StrickJ, I had a membership at Carters for a while when I lived in McDonald. I did not like the range ventilation, or more accurately, the lack of ventilation. Carl's place over in Hixson, I think Sportsmans Supply?, is ok. It is much nicer than Carters. I really do prefer shooting at outdoor ranges, though, and sooner or later will take the time to get on the waiting list at the Chattanooga Rifle Club. -
No marks on mine, either, and it's eaten about 4,000 or so rounds

Hey! I'm new to the forums and just wanted to show a little bit of what I shoot. This is a partial version, as I have yet to photograph and download more than this. More guns to be added to this as I get 'em on here. This is one of my Nagant's. This is an M-38 http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01417.jpg This is the gun I have had the longest, a Marlin model 60 that was my Christmas present in 1983 when I was 7. http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01415.jpg This is a Rossi .357 mag that I bought and refinished for my son this year. http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01413.jpg Here is my 2007 Christmas present. A Walther P-22 that has been great for introducing my son to shooting (plus it's fun to shoot) http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01408.jpg My Hog gun, a Ruger Redhawk 7 3/4" .454 http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01418.jpg And my primary carry gun, a Springfield XD .45 http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh258/Good_steward/DSC01410.jpg Sorry that the pics are a little blurry, I'm no photographer.

Canynracer, the VPC is the Violence Policy Center, which is the former Brady Campaign. Notorious gun grabbers, every single one of 'em. They rate a states "gun control" laws with the most restrictive states getting an A rating, and on down the grading scale from most to least restrictive, with least "restrictive" earning F's. -
I'm in (if anyone's still interested). Just check the schedule for Prentice Cooper, and we have a good firing range for your meet.

If you don't mind me asking, what grip do you have on your XD ?

Thanks! I just kind of happened across this website when I was looking at some posts on another site I am a member of (Beartooth Bullets). It seemed pretty cool that this page is dedicated to Tennessee gunowners, and the issues that we deal with everyday. I would also like to report that we were given a D- by the VPC, and I am sincerely ashamed that our legislation has allowed us to lose our F rating! -
Just wanted to say hello to everyone, and let y'all know a bit about me. I am a 32 year old married man, with a seven year old son. I am an avid shooter and reloader, and am enjoying teaching my son the fine art of both of those hobbies. I grew up in Charleston, TN, and moved to Signal Mountain about a year ago. I shoot mostly at Prentice Cooper. And, of course, what kind of proud father would I be if I didn't offer to show these? http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01379.jpg http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01375.jpg http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01380.jpg http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01373.jpg http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01369.jpg http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/DSC01371.jpg
