  1. Thanks, Daniel. Mine says 35, but I'm still working on 21. It says you're 31.Tell me what it's like to be that old!
  2. Today's Birthdays Good_Steward (35) One good turn deserves another.
  3. Looks good, Greg! I'd have voted for it Too bad we have folks like that. They have a "classifieds" radio show on 102.3 down here, and a guy called in to sell two rifles, and the hosts were like "errrr. . . . .uhhhhh . . I don't know if that's ok". They finally let him run his ad, and he had more calls requesting his number than the other sellers, even the guy selling his 50cc scooter.
  4. I voted the 700. I own several, and they are fantastic rifles. I guess it all depends on what you want more, but since you already have several handguns, I would think the long gun would be more practical. That's the story I use with the wife when I buy a new gun. "It was practical!"
  5. This wasn't directed at any person in particular, Links2k. I think you did the right thing by cleaning it up for him. Even though it turned out he was being deceptive, he might not have been, and those are the people we want to really help, because the more people who understand firearms, the better off we'll be when it comes time for legislation. Kudo's to you for cleaning it up for him. I think you did the right thing, even though he didn't.
  6. Mr. Monday was certainly the man that day. Known much more for rescuing the flag than he was for anything he did on the ballfield, and that ain't a bad thing. Mine is, and has been, pics of my son shooting. I like to rotate his range pics in and out. I can certainly see the differences in him maturing in every different one. Makes me feel old. Proud, but old.
  7. This is right. I didn't know how to shoot a gun until someone took the time to teach me the proper way (my grandfather). Every single one of use have been in that boat. Don't believe me? Look for the threads titled "I need help with ______". We all need someone to educate us properly at some point, without talking down to us, like some people would. Just my two cents.
  8. Finally got around to testing these loads. The 100gr Noslers over top of 51gr of AA4350 with CCI BR-2 shot the tightest groups at 100. Five 5 shot groups averaged .94", with a small of .82", and a large of 1.11". The average group for the 117gr Noslers over 49.8gr AA4350 with CCI BR-2 was 1.09". All of the loads were definitely hunting accurate, and will probably perform even better once I tinker with the OAL to fit my Ruger M77 specifically, instead of a generic OAL. Long and short of it, these loads are MOA accurate and good to go without any more tinkering. Now, if I can convince my tinkering personality of that.
  9. Thanks, OhShoot! I have an old (14 yr old) Gerber Gator that I like, just haven't used much. I've been looking for a decent knife with a guthook, so I went ahead and bought the Freeman when I left the office this afternoon. I think it'll do just fine.
  10. I voted for twins. One of each. Just to keep you on your toes . Seriously, though, I have one of each, a 9 yr old boy, and a 1 1/2 year old girl. The boy does what I ask, we all do what the girl asks (already). Funny how that works. . . . .
  11. Opinions? Looking for a sturdy knife with a solid lock-up that won't break the bank, especially if it is lost during the course of the hunting season. Handled this just a little while ago, and liked it pretty well, especially for under $40, but I thought I would ask for opinions from people who have used this knife. Thanks in advance!
  12. So, anyone else sign up, since last night was the deadline?
  13. I refuse to even attempt AEDC after an experience about 7 or 8 years ago. Used to be a good hunt, now it's just smallish deer, and an everlovin' ton of people.
  14. mmmmmmmm . . . . . camp pancakes. Maybe with fresh wild hog bacon and tenderloin? Honestly, we'll likely end up at Catoosa. Yuchi is a good hunt, but a very low limit. I think only 50 hunters. That's fine with me, though.
  15. ha! Yeah, counting my brother, that's 4. Not a bad group, though. I want to find the 2 who volunteered for cooking duties . . . .
  16. From TWRA: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - Dove Hunting "Songbirds, hawks, owls, killdeer, nighthawks, chimney swifts, woodpeckers, and most other species of birds cannot be legally shot. These birds are protected by State and Federal regulations and killing them or shooting at them is strictly prohibited. " Big no-no
  17. 2 comments: 1.) .45/70 for coyote? Brilliant! That probably looked like the commercial for the Barnes "Varmint Grenade" where prairie dogs were flying in 20 different directions. 2.) I like that R-15....a lot. How does it shoot?
  18. Cool. Maybe we'll get to try out that 117gr 25/06 that was given to us . . . .
  19. +1 on the AA #5 and CCI's. I'm a big fan of CCI primers and Accurate powders all the way around, especially #5 for 9, 40, and 45,though I prefer VV N110 for .357. 2230 for .22 caliber centerfires and .308, and 4350 for .300 win mag, 30/06, 25/06, .270, and 7mm mag.
  20. Party #282947 Yuchi @ Smith Bend - 1 deer, either sex, gun (1st choice) dates 11/6 - 11/7 Catoosa - Genesis - One deer buck only (at least 4 antler points on 1 side), unlimited wild hog, either sex - gun 12/02 - 12/04 (2nd choice) If anyone else wants to sign up, just use the party number when asked if you want to join a group.
  21. Nice pooch, Howler! I'm a big Remington nut, by the way. Love 'em. Darn good looking set-up XD! You could probably use that slick little Marlin .22 mag ya snatched up before I could!
  22. I like Accurate 2230 the best for .22 caliber rifles (and .308). Good, versatile powder that's accurate as all get out. By the way, that 35gr bullet will be just fine, especially with a fast, accurate load.
  23. You gonna neck that down to accept .224"?
  24. guess I should add that the application deadline is the 21st.
  25. Checking out the draw hunt application online, and thought it may be a good idea to see if anyone was interested in a group draw hunt this year? I know several guys (I was one of 'em) talked about a group hog hunt earlier this year. Your thoughts, and draw hunt preferences? Personally, I like the Catoosa rifle hunts for deer, since it (used to, anyway: need to check up on that) include unlimited hog as well as your deer bag. Not sure how to set this up for a group, so insight into that would be helpful, as well.
