Obviously, you've never been associated with a Tennessee football fan if you have never had someone give you a list of Alabama's negatives. If you have a couple of weeks, I can cover chapter one with you.... Good luck with the move and the new job, Brooks!

I have done this, and, surprisingly enough, it works. Just try this when they are eating near top water.

oops, double.

Agreed, as QA Manager (as well as the primary HACCP manager) for a food contact packaging facility, it is constant stress. Audits, customer complaints, more audits, production hates your guts, more audits, customers threatening to "sue your a$$ off" (actually received that call more than once for some of our Injection Molded products that were "shorts", and they swore they bit it off and swallowed it), more audits, some customer complaints, sales hates your guts, marketing hates your guts, and more audits. Did I mention audits? Now, I get to worry about all that plus some. Piece of cake!

That's certainly not the lower end. Process Techs make the world go 'round.... You in Thermoforming, Injection Molding, etc. ?

Thanks. I am 36 now, so thankfully, I hadn't started questioning my ceiling yet. It is a good feeling, though, now that I think about it.

Plastic packaging. Already have to replace a supervisor that left just prior to me taking this position, as well.... let the fun begin.

Thanks, man. Little nerve racking. I have been management for the last ~7 years, but never more than a group of 30 people. This job will require some serious trust and delegation to the management staff. They know their jobs well, so it should make for an easy transition, but I feel a lot of sleepless nights coming on.......

Soooo, things happen, and hard work is sometimes appreciated. I have been the QA Manager for three years (until last Thursday) with the company I work for. As of 2pm Thursday, I have assumed the role of Plant Manager for our two manufacturing facilities in Chattanooga (approximately 350 people total employment / 75mm in annual sales). I am very excited to have the opportunity, and nervous at the same time. Lot of responsibility, but I have a great support staff that I have already worked with during these years. Just wanted to share, and am always open to advice.

Let me clarify - I am 100% for personal responsibility and limiting government intervention in even the smallest part of individual life. Period. May be right, may be wrong, but it is certainly my my opinion.

We have a winner. Every single illegal drug should be legalized with a disclaimer. "At your own risk". If it's hard for the family of a dopehead, it would have been whether it was legal or not. I hate to say this, but I had an aunt, with two kids, who ended up strung out on meth. She went to prison, my cousins came to live with family. It was hard, but my aunt would have been strung out, regardless. She didn't give a damn who she hurt, and she paid the price. C'est La Vie

I have an '06 with the 4.7l V8. Fantastic vehicle! I bought it "new" in Jan '07, and have about 75K miles on it. I pull loads well over 3k lbs with it on a regular basis up and down Signal Mountain with 0 problems. Little 1,500lb bass boat gets pulled without really even noticing. Can't buy a better "SUV". Period.

Yeah, I could do that, but I wouldn't be able to buy a new boat that way.......

I know, right? It's always DOWNRIVER. I am about to double my pain, as my wife has decided she would rather float on a log rather than be in the "your boat smells like dead stuff" boat. It's a fishing boat; of course it smells like "dead stuff" (obviously, I like to catfish occasionally). So, we went and checked out a Mastercraft ProStar 190 this morning. I must be a masochist.

I grew up on the Hiwassee, literally less than a half a mile from her, and still to this day love the river, and fish it every chance I get. Based on your location, I would guess that you are fishing east / northeast of the Charleston boat ramp, closer to two rivers. I would say certainly, and based my fellow engineer's, Peejman, post: go for it. I would not eat anything downriver of the Charleston boat ramp, however. Too many "if's" with Bowater and Olin in the area.

Congrats on survivi.....errrr......being happily married 32 years. Your tolerance for pain.....uhhhhh.....happiness is amazing! 5 next month here.

That is awesome! I have read quite a bit about kayak fishing in the bays of Alaska, and have always thought that would be an incredible experience.

Welcome from a long time Bradley County resident (Charleston, TN - where the men are men and the women are, too)
-
You, sir, are grandfathered in. As am I, at the ripe old age of 36.

By the way, this should really go in the "Whiskey Thread", but I am really liking the Chattanooga Whiskey Co.'s 1816 Reserve. Makes me philosophical (obviously redneck, boating, and fishing philosophical, but hey, that's alright, too)

You, sir, truly have never owned one of these siren's songs.... there is an explanation for that problem that even physics cannot describe. It is called a boat being a boat. The wallet's answer to the question of the square root of Pi and perpetual motion (literally), and far more jealous and treacherous than any woman a man could take as a lover. Over the top? I think not.......
-
LOL - it seems I am not the only one who has experienced the pleasure and pain (and more pain) of owning a boat. Gotta love it, and quite honestly, I never see myself without one of these beautiful heartaches (and walletaches, if that's a word - if not, it should be created for boat owners)

We do, as adults and outdoorsmen, tend to lose sight of simplistic, enjoyable outings in favor of profanity laced, ER visit, wife estranging pursuits of monster bass, deer, and turkey.....

I have found several that I thought were cheap. They were not. Fishing is a cheap hobby; however, I have found that bass fishing is, quite likely, the most expensive hobby in the world. No such thing as a pole and worm. I think last year I spent around the same as the GDP of a small country (like China or something close) for extravagant fishing equipment specifically intended for bass that was an absolute MUST to prevent fish-less outings and to catch the attention of Blue Marlin weight class largemouth. At least, that's what the commercials said.....

Very nice boat. I like the hood ornament . I have had a boat of some form since I was 15 years old, ranging from a 14ft john boat with a 5hp Johnson to a Malibu Wakesetter that was completely decked out. I have found that even if you don't have any "on-the-water" problems with them, there is always a massive amount of maintenance. The boat I have now, in the last two years, I have replaced the trim motor, trolling motor, and now a steering cable. I re-wired the entire boat today since I was already working on it (made a color coded wiring diagram and used fused power distribution blocks - hey, why not?). While these costs have only added up to about $1K, they have all come at an inopportune time. Heck, the Wakesetter set me back nearly $40K, and still had to have the packing re-stretched 4 times in 5 years..... I love boats, love the water, love fishing. I can't think of a better way to spend the weekend than floating down the river searching for big ol' bass and aggressive crappie. Heck, I've been known to be patient enough every once in a while to drop a line and wait on catfish. Anyway, It is a very one sided love affair, because this girl likes to keep her hands in my pockets...LOL!
