Hey everyone,   I moved to Maryville last year and have not purchased any firearms up here yet. I'm about to order an AR-15 lower from an online dealer, so I obviously need to find an FFL to ship it to. When I look at the retailer's "FFL look-up" page, there are quite a few listed in Maryville. Is there any one in particular that you guys use that are preferred over the others?   I did make a few calls and the price for a transfer up here is a little higher than they are in Jacksonville, FL. There were several FFL's there that only charged $5 after their military discount. The rest were $15 to $20 plus $5 for the NICS. So far the two local LGS's that I called are charging $30 plus $10 for the NICS.   Oh, one of the LGS that I did call was Gunny's Range and Guns. The guy that answered the phone seemed really confused about what an FFL was and had to put another person on the phone in order to answer my questions. That phone call didn't instill much confidence in their expertise with firearms.   Thanks,   Rob

My summer EDC is an XDs 3.3" 9mm, it is definitely easy to carry IWB. But, my winter carry is an XDm compact 9mm. The XDm trigger is far better than the XDs, plus it'll carry 13 +1 with the standard mag. I'd carry the XDm year round, but being on the skinny side it's harder to conceal the XDm with just a T-shirt.   I've had several people comment how good a "shooter" the XDm is.   Rob

  This is funny and a little sad!!   I was living in MD around 2010 when VA tried to pass a law to allow conceal carry of firearms in drinking establishments. The progressives used almost the same argument to persuade the public and the government to vote against the proposed law. Well, the proposed law was passed and the governor signed it into law the next year.   A year later I read an article that mentioned that all the "horrible" results of such an irresponsible law never transpired...in fact shooting crimes decreased for that year.   But, I also have to ask...if everyone is afraid to open carry as the law permits, then what does it matter if we even have the law?   This goes back to my original statement, if we don't exercise our rights, we will lose them!   Rob

  You are not correct my friend. In the United States WE have the right to "bear arms" as stated in the Bill of Rights.   Yes, it may be illegal to carry a loaded AR in public, but you are confusing "laws" with "rights." We still maintain the right, but our government chooses to overstep it's boundaries by conveniently ignoring or re-interpreting the Constitution.   In the strict sense these laws are unconstitutional. Man cannot remove a God given right.   "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."   Sir, I meant no disparagement toward anyone on this forum, but yes I am passionate about our constitutional rights. All too often I see and hear people complain about how someone else exercises their rights. All I'm saying is thank God we still have those rights, and if we don't exercise them, they will be taken away from us.    If I thought one dumba$$ had any effect on the continuous onslaught from the gun control nuts, I might be more inclined to chastise him for his actions. What I believe is more important to our maintaining our rights, is that WE actually exercise those rights. If everyone of us, who could legally do so, open carried daily, the public perception would gradually change to accept it. Would there be an uproar initially? Probably so, but once the public realizes that those of us who carry guns are law abiding citizens, and are doing so to protect ourselves and our loved ones, they will no longer see us as "nut-case gun owners"!   Yes, you are correct that private companies can limit what we do and say on their property. That is up to the individual company, and they will have to live with their decisions. By that I mean if they restrict a customer's perceived or actual liberties, they stand the chance of loosing that customer's business. A pissed off customer base could cause severe hardship to a company. But, what if the government restricted those rights? If a private entity wanted to allow those rights, they would not be able to, because it is illegal. This is why the Constitution is important. If a private company limits rights, they possibly loose revenue, if the government takes our rights they are gone EVERYWHERE!    First they came for the assault rifles, and I did not speak out— Because I did not use an assault rifle. Then they came for the rifles, and I did not speak out— Because I did not hunt. Then they came for the handguns, and I did not speak out— Because the government assured us we were safe.     I totally agree!! Wow, is this a gun owner's website or the discussion area of media matters?!    We/you should be applauding this guy, because he obviously has bigger cajones than all of you. How many of you actually open carry, since it is legal in TN? For years we have been pushing legislation in FL to try to obtain the right to open carry in FL. So far we have not been successful.   A few of you mention that just because it's legal doesn't make it right...so...are you saying gubm'nt should remove his ability to carry an AR in public?! Are you siding with all those people that think gubm'nt should prohibit carrying any firearm...or for that matter, owning a firearm?!   What good is a right if we don't exercise it?   More importantly, if you don't exercise your rights WE WILL LOOSE THEM!

Wow...that is surprising. I purchased a "blem" 5.56 16" upper from them and I couldn't tell where the blem was. I stuck it on a spikes lower and put about 200 rnds through it with no issues. I built the whole thing for less than $500. I also bought a complete AR.308 lower form them for $189. I can't wait to finish that project!   Rob   edit... It might not be so great if they are opposed to the noise or shooting.   Peejman - Do you know if it is legal to carry (with a permit) in Maryville? I found this in the Maryville code of ordnances:   "11-603. Weapons and firearms generally. It shall be unlawful for any person to carry in any manner whatever, with the intent to go armed, any razor, dirk, knife, blackjack, brass knucks, pistol, revolver, or any other dangerous weapon or instrument."   I did not see any exception for legal handgun permit holders.   Does this mean it is illegal for legal permit holders to carry in Maryville or does the Tennessee state law preempt this ordinance?   Thanks,     Rob

Howdy all. The last time I posted was in 2012 and I was recently retired from the Navy. The wife and I were looking at retiring to the Johnson city area, but because of family issues we headed back to Jacksonville, FL again. We really like the east Tennessee area, so we continued to look around whenever we could make it up that way. Well, now we are seriously looking at a house in the Maryville area, in fact we have made an offer on one at the Top of the World area.   Since the houses we are looking at are on 4+ acres, I was wondering if I would be able to do some target practice on the property. So, I have been trying to find out what the ordinances are for discharging a firearm in Blount county. I was hoping someone on here could point me in the right direction.   Rob

Maybe we could get together some time, tell some sea stories and you could give us the lay of the land. Howdy all, I have recently retired from the Navy, and the wife and I are taking an extended vacation before I start a new career. Since I retired on June 1st we have visited Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Germany and France. Now we are slowly trying to find a location to settle. Most of our family is in Florida, so on our way down we decided to stop here to check out the area for a few weeks. I was stationed at Patuxent River, MD for the past 4 1/2 years, and we are sure glad to see MD in our rear view mirror. We are currently camping at Warrior's Path State Park in our RV, plus I have my boat in tow, so this park should work out well. Oh, and thankfully TN honors my FL CCW permit. Rob
