+1 for the M1 carbine. A very fun rifle to shoot, and you can get 5, 10 and 30 round mags for it!

I love my Glock 23. It shoots well and very easy to conceal. You might want to look into Glock or XD if you are looking for something nice and light for eventual concealed carry. Both the Glock and XD lines fit into your price range as well. I'd recommend getting to a range and shoot as many different pistols as you can. Find one you like and buy it. -Mike

Reef, I've got a rubber grip that I was going to try to modify to fit my .30-06. It is a direct replacement for the AR rear grip. I can take some pictures tonight if you want.

7.62 is .308 Molonlabe - I've only handled the cheap surplus AK's. I haven't handled a nice higher end one. So I was speaking from my own experience. I would still vote AR though.

Is there an on line manual? The rifle was used and didn't come with any paperwork... Note taken on the Ruskie ammo.

She shoots quite well. I terminated a cardboard box with extreme prejudice after I got through cleaning the fouling out. Now off to clean it again. Any tips on maintenance? Anything special I need to do or don't do?

Got a Bushmaster today. Got it at Franklin Gun Shop. It's a pre-ban model with the flash suppressor and bayonet lug. Franklin Gun Shop was great, the only complaint I have is that the rifle was very dirty. you would think they would clean them up a little so they look nice. I got that taken care of when I got home though. It took about 45 minutes to get all of the copper/powder fouling out of the barrel.

It took an hour for mine. I went to the one in LaVergne. Even at 2:00 there were 25 people in there.

Damn, they won't transfer the prints. Oh well, I found out the nearest printing office is less than a block away from my office. Not too bad of a problem. Going to do that tomorrow.

If possible I'd like to bring a friend as well.
