These guns were broken, as in had to be sent back to Springfield to be repaired, broken. Broken trigger bars, broken roll pins, roll pins MIA, and broken extractors. Mike

I have seen many of these guns fail during classes. They don't begin to keep up with glock or an m&p. Mike

Best Hearing Protection Advice please
Mike replied to Newman's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Peltor sport-tac electronic muffs. The best 100 bucks I've spent on ear pro over the years. I've had mine for about 5 years now and they still work great. I go to a lot of classes and being able to hear what's going on without having to don and doff ear-pro is essential. Not to mention they are comfortable. Mike -

They feel good, they're a two stage trigger I think. They're very smooth. Mike

There's more than that on a 642/442. The sight is integral to the barrel. It has to be milled off and a groove cut into the barrel for the sight to fit in. With the added expense of gunsmithing for a 642/442 to have an XS sight on it you might want to look at the m&p340 or 340pd. They're .357 revolvers and are cut from the factory for the sight to drop right in. Mike
I just got a Romanian AK.
Be careful with the tapco stuff. I have seen many of their products break. Magazines and stocks are the worst about it. Mike
I'd take an SKS any day over an AK.
And why is this?
Have you seen the AK stocks? I believe they were designed for pygmies. There is a rubber buttpad available for them that adds a couple of inches to the LOP
Square up to the rifle. I'm 6'3" and the stock isn't too short. I would get the AK over the SKS. The rifle is smaller, lighter and much easier to reload. Magazines are inexpensive and plentiful, and you can get replacement parts much easier for the AK. Well worth the additional money spent. Mike

I wouldn't put oil on them. Knock the chunks off and load them up. It should run fine.

1. The ace stock works and is very easy to attach to the rear trunnion. I had the folder mechanism on it but took it off and attached the stock directly to the rear trunnion on mine. 3. I would check out spikes new muzzle brake. It works very well, isn't $220, and doesn't give the guy next to you a concussion. http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-ak-dynacomp-m14x1-lh-thread-p-944.html Or the liberty cans flash hider. It works very well. It turned the beachball of flame into just some sparks of still burning powder blowing out of mine. http://libertycans.net/Phoenix.html 4. The US Palm grips are a good option. I don't personally see them as necessary on a small rifle like the Draco but they work nicely on my RPKs and are very comfortable. A lightly stippled standard polymer grip is my personal choice on a regular ak. 5. The wood works. No reason to swap it unless you absolutely want to. 6. I'm not sure why you want bolt hold open mags. They literally do nothing. Once you pull the mag out the carrier goes into battery. So why go to the trouble to fit them to your mags when they don't benefit you? I've also never had any issue going prone with a 30rd mag. 7. I can't tell a difference between RSA, Tapco, Arsenal, or factory com-block triggers. The only trigger I can honestly say feels different are the Chinese polytechs. I have been using wheel bearing grease for several years now. No issues hot or cold(TN cold) at all. Mike
-
Water and brake parts cleaner. Hose it off with both and pull a bore snake through the barrel. Follow that up with wheel bearing grease and you're good to go.

Is there anywhere that would have a 1/2x28 tap available in the Nashville area? Mike
-
I have upwards of 50,000 rounds through AK's, the majority of them through an Arsenal built rifle of one make or another. For me Arsenal is a good buy. I would rather be out shooting than spend the time to convert one from a sporter. I have broken many of the rifles and they have all been simple fixes. But that has also been true with my Romanian and Bulgarian rifles. They all break down with enough mileage and abuse. Mike

Bill Scarpino He can be contacted through on target or the Nashville armory. What length upper is it?

Mike replied to jtluttrell's topic in Training Discussions
Does anyone know more about this, such as what modifications are made and what they fire? There's still a projectile involved right? Is this new?
I know federal has a new fx round out for AR's that you only have to replace the bolt for. It has a minimum standoff for bare skin of only 1 foot.
Any thoughts on the effectiveness of such training?
It is very effective training. You get real time feedback whether you did well or not. I've been in force on force classes and I will say they are ego crushers. They are also the most rewarding in lessons learned. I get more of an adrenaline rush doing the force on force classes that the ones where I've had explosives thrown at me and had to stick needles into simulated casualties. I highly reccomend you do it. Mike -
