New Hunter

Looking for a IWB holster for my "baby" desert eagle .45 made by Magnum Research. Anyone have any recommendations? I cant find any that say they fit this model. Should I look for a holster that fits a similar model? if so, then what model?

Yeah, I run cross country and half marathon distances regularly so walking distances, even while carrying gear is not an issue. I am definitely looking forward to spending some time in the woods!

Haha, yes simple on paper. I graduate from college at the end of this year so come next season I will have time to do scouting, etc. This year I believe I will be just stalking through the woods and see what I see. Find a spot where I dont see any other vehicles parked.

Around hunting season last year I would drive out to Smyrna to meet a buddy to run. I'd take Hobson Pike to Couchville then turn off Weakley Lane. I would always see people parked on the side of the road on Weakley Lane and based on the decals on their trucks I am pretty sure they were hunting. That is good advice on the lunch deal, WD. As for permits, I do already have hunters safety as well as the general hunt/fish combo and as you said it looks like I will also need the 010 Archery license and 094 WMA non-quota big game. I must be overlooking the part on the TWRA site about big game tag pricing/purchasing. I also have a rifle and shotgun and while I did not plan to hunt with those this year, you never know where I might get invited to so I may just purchase the Annual Sportsman for $136 dollars to just cover everything. I'll have to do the math and see what it comes out to since I have a general hunt/fish already and I'd also like to shoot squirrels so I'd need 093 WMA small game as well. Thanks for the info WD. I believe you only shoot 2 groups of 6 at 45 feet. Like was stated above, the target is a huge silhouette. There are true/false and multiple choice questions on the test. OnTarget is a pricy place and I believe the better if not best deal around might be Guns and Leather in Greenbriar for 65 bucks.

Took mine last Sunday at Guns and Leather in Greenbriar for 65 bucks. Great instructor. There is a 30 question test followed by the shooting test. You go in groups of 5. You shoot 48 rounds total. You shoot groups of 6 bullets at a time at distances of 9 feet, 21 feet, and 45 feet. I believe you have to hit 37 out of the 48 on the silhouette. Pretty easy class but yes people do fail the class. People also accidentally shoot the table you sign the waver on, shoot the vending machines, one guy even shot his own car in the parking lot on accident. The class is "easy" but still very dangerous at the same time. You have very inexperienced people handling live firearms.

Hey guys, pretty new to the forums here. I did some waterfowl hunting with my dad when I was younger but this is going to be my first deer season. I picked up a PSE Stinger compound bow not quite two months ago and I've been shooting it like crazy, love it. As for hunting with it, I am going to try and take a crack at it this season. I'll be out there on the WMA's. I haven't had time to do any scouting, I'm still in college so work/class keeps me busy, so thought I might try some ground stalking instead of just setting up a stand in a random spot. Any tips or tricks for first time deer hunter on the WMAs? Safety concerns, ect? As for ground stalking, I want to be careful not to walk through and mess up someone elses hunt. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I never paid too much attention to ticks until this year. I found one attached in my armpit and then about two weeks later I started feeling real bad so I went to the doctor. They tested me for Rocky Mountain, the test takes over a week to come back so they went ahead and started treating me. I'm glad they did because sure enough it was Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I got the tick while fishing down from the Cedar Creek Marina in Mt. Juliet.

Looking to get into a bit of coyote hunting myself. A friend of mine has some chickens that are falling victim to the coyotes or some other type of predator. I assume coyotes because I have actually seen them. We have only seen the coyote(s) during the night time, do you think I will be able to get them out during legal shooting hours? Thanks

I am not too sure. Probably out on a WMA and hopefully on my friends fathers land out in Waverly if he will let me. What about you?

Hey TGO! I've been browsing the forums this weekend and decided to sign up today. I did some waterfowl hunting when I was younger with my dad (around 14 or so) but nothing since then. I'm starting from scratch and I've picked up a few guns and a bow in the past few months. I've also been catching gear on sale or clearance. I still have some time before the seasons pick back up to gather all my essentials. I look forward to some good reading and helpful folks on these forums! Thanks, John
