When black top is sealed some type of grit is used, I do not know if white sand can be used, what ever you use as non skid it wont be shinny any more.

The saddle frame, where have I seen that before, just can not put my finger on the name just yet.

I picked up a factory 3 round extension, but the spring felt like you said, binding. I used a small bit of lube inside the tube and it helped a good bit. I was able to get all 7 rounds into the tube with space for about 1/2 a round. Pump cycling was good. So try small bit of lube.
