  1. Now I'm really going make y'all work for your money  !     Where could one (in the relative area of Chattanooga/Knoxville) find Teak wood!  Ive been really considering making the tabletop, skirts, and legs/leg veneers out of teak, but building the framing, etc. out of PT Lumber.  Thoughts?  Id prefer to not order online.  Secondarily, Id look for Redwood.
  2.   There was a thread here on TGO about a man who WAS charged with carrying past a posted sign somewhere in Memphis I believe.  IF I remember correctly it was a man who carried under a shoot me first vest into a motorcycle dealership where a shooting had occurred not too long before and hired a security guard.  Said SG stopped and held the man, called the PD - man was arrested and charged for carrying past posting.  Im not sure what the judgement ended up being, but again I THINK - it was the loss of his HCP for a year.  PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong - I'm sure some of the fold timers on the forum can chime in.     TDR - I feel that this (SB1774/HB1480) makes the gun laws much LESS convoluted.  Try going to the range with multiple handguns, rifles, shotguns, and keeping the ammo and weapons out of the access of the driver and immediate vicinity of the weapon on range day in a car - because what in my mind and an officer who's had a bad day's mind could be VERY different.  Even though its just a class C misdemeanor - I sure don't want to explain that on a grad school application.     EDIT - Just re-read TDRs post and now see that it could very well be directed at the signage issue!  No worries.
  3.   I don't even have an HCP, but knew that 39-17-1313 was a cluster****
  4. Any pictures of the pre-stained wood?  Sounds interesting!  I love doing the actual wood working, but absolutely despise finishing!
  5. It feels good to have written my state senator for two years about this and to finally have something done (even though he played no part in it other than voting it through).  Every now and then the political system does work to our advantage.     Now to wait for the news networks to report about how this will lead to wild west styled shootouts in the street over road rage...
  6. So, I know there has to be some carpenters/people who love working with wood here on TGO and thought it would be cool to make a thread to just talk and share about current and past projects and questions to ask some of the more experienced folks!         I'm about to start a project to build a table for out on the patio/deck and am trying to decide on what wood to use - spruce or cedar.  Right now, Im leaning towards cedar.  Where would those of you in E. TN suggest I look for good quality wood?  I checked out Home Depot yesterday, and I couldn't find a straight board!
  7. I just wanted to say thanks to the TGO community for putting in their efforts calling and emailing in favor of this legislation - it means a lot to myself and pro-2A friends who aren't of legal age to get an HCP yet. That's why I love the gun community in the south. It should be a downhill battle from here - just getting Haslam to sign it! On the down side (gotta spend more money!) - I've now got an excuse to start looking for another handgun!
  8. Paper is on. OS check the second item in the right column - it's hiding in there! ;)
  9. Passed H., Ayes 79, Nays 10 04/14/2014 I think there's something to it. I'm glad the media didn't latch onto because The Lord knows my side of the story wouldn't be shown.
  10. It passed! Onto haslams desk!
  11.   Roger that - Do what YOU personally feel is right, but be prepared to deal with the consequences.
  12.   Honestly the class is heavily dependent upon the instructor.  I had a close family friend who hadn't hardly ever touched a gun go take her HCP course upon my recommendation ( ) - however, upon coming out she had the idea that she was allowed to carry at the school that she worked at...   I politely tried to inform her of the class E felony of which she would be committing but was greeted with the - "I have my HCP and took the 8 hour class, so I think I know..."    I've met MANY people with this attitude who have taken the TN HCP courses and come out with a piss poor knowledge of TN Carry/Firearm laws, and refuse to listen to others because of what their instructor said.  Reading and researching the law yourself will never be replaced by 4 hours of classroom talk.  I don't think we should kid ourselves and think that the current HCP courses gives a "great" education in TN Firearms law, but allows pretty much anybody with a pulse to pass through and get a permit.
  13.   Not 21 yet.
  14. Here's the biggest issue I've seen (including on this forum and in my own family) from "pro-2A citizens" - they don't support it because they HAVE or CAN GET an HCP and they don't want other's rights expanded for fear of additional postings.  I can guarantee if you were in a position where you were  a law abiding citizen but could not get an HCP for some reason, you would be all for it.  I have yet to see all of those with the Gadsden DTOM and mall ninja Facebook pictures put their money with their mouth is and actually support one of the biggest advances in TN Firearms laws in the past decade.  I can guarantee you, not all people who would be open carrying if this law passed would be the **** that walks around Walmart with a 6" Taurus Judge in a nylon Uncle Mike's Holster to act like a badass. While OC isn't ideal, if its passed, I damn sure will carry everywhere that isn't posted because its MY only option.     *I'm sure this post will piss people off, so rant over - I don't mean to anger anybody, but provide another perspective on this bill*
  15.   SB1774/HB1480 - if it passes, you won't.  Just like every other state that borders TN.

    Other hobby

If it's got two wells and can fit through single-track then its good enough for me! Love trail riding on the KTM and single track mountain biking!
  17.   Quite understandable!  With about 4-5 threads on "the new OC law" its real easy to get confused!
  18. SB 1774 passed and has been engrossed into the corresponding House Bill HB1480 - permit less car carry.

    Club comparison

Anything around Knoxville/Oak Ridge would be worth looking in to.  You can be out in the country, and in 15-30 minutes, be in a city that'd have anything you want, but not a big city feel.  Plus, ORSA is close, and probably the best club in TN.
  20. Update - PASSED the senate floor and has been engrossed into the house!  Looks like this one "might" make it through!
  21.   No it doesn't give HCP holders any ground, but there are sill extremely competent gun owners out there that cannot (or for some reason) do not get an HCP.  I'm 19, live on my own, work full time and go to school full time, my name is on a lease and I pay my bills.  I'd say I'm a pretty responsible person and unfortunately the state of TN (until now) has said that I'm not responsible enough to carry a handgun, but in 13 months I will be...  IF the house doesn't kill this bill, at least I would have some means of carry and a step up from my C2.  This is a huge gain in ground for the entire 2A Community if we can get it pushed through.
  22. The way the bills text is worded it will. The key phrases to look for are "legally posess". Same as with the HB1480/SB1774. Just like almost every state that borders TN :)
  23. 2x other threads up here today!  Still has a way to go before we can start thinking about "legally" OC'ing without an HCP.
  24. Q-tip, check out HB1480/SB1774. They allow HCP-less car carry. Appears to be a good chance of passing too. Senate floor tomorrow and House Calender and Rules Committee tomorrow or the day after!
