Some upcoming academic research on gun violence - good news?
No_0ne replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in General Chat
Some upcoming academic research on gun violence - good news? I'm afraid you are working on a false premise - that anything in the current assault on gun right is driven by data, logic or facts in general. The anti-gun movement's agenda is ideologically driven, and the proponents of that movement will ignore any new research in the same way as they have dismissed previous attempts to interject actual facts into the debate. -
As long as you are not converting it to a SBR or adding a silencer you are good to go. Permanent alterations will negate its C&R status but I'm sure you're not interested in that anyway. If you are considering the slip-on brakes which mount in place of a bayonet, save your money. The only viable option is to have a brake pinned, soldered or welded on. Be advised, most people who have tried this have been less than satisfied with the results. If recoil reduction is your goal, the limbsaver type buttpads are a better and cheaper alternative.

Not a problem, I'm in no real hurry, just glad to finally catch one actually obtainable...

Yep, added and checked out, CC accepted and order confirmation sent to my email address. I know what you mean, these have been showing up as "in stock" when they really weren't, but after reading the previous posts about them "popping up" I decided to give it a try...

In stock now on their site.

Mystery Company Coming To Mt. Pleasant... MagPul?
No_0ne replied to Peace's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Magpul already subcontracts a huge percentage of their manufacturing to independent companies with the capability of injection-molding polymer parts. Some of these companies will leave Colorado with Magpul. I'm betting that at least part of those companies have factories already in place elsewhere, some will relocate to various locations across the US, and that Magpul will expand their retinue of subcontractors to other businesses which are up and running now. In this scenario, Magpul relocates its corporate headquarters in one area, maybe opening up a central distribution hub, and the actual product is sourced throughout existing plants. Thus no centralized manufacturing facility is needed, and Magpul can expand (or contract) its capabilities as necessary to meet demand. Unfortunately, this would also mean no "bonanza" of new jobs for whatever state Magpul relocates to. -
Wine in Grocery store bill fails in committee
No_0ne replied to graycrait's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This is nothing new. The liquor lobby has been the most powerful group in Tn. politics for decades, rivaled only by the roadbuilder's group. These bills will always fail given the amount of money being openly distributed on the hill ( google Tom "The Golden Goose" Hensley for one example). The lobby is well-funded by the companies benefiting from these restrictions, and have honed their arguments for years, citing "warm and fuzzy" homilies about protecting native Tennessee businesses and families while these selfsame merchants enjoy monopolies not seen since feudal times. Fast forward to next year and you will observe the same ritual, politicians making noise about changing the Royal Writs right up until the time the "Geese" deliver their proscribed payoffs. -
Sounds like the Tennessee Technology Centers in your area is the best bet. I took some night welding courses many years ago in one for the same reasons. Call or email the director if no night courses are currently offered, each center offers those when demand is high enough to warrant a class.

Got another for you guys to help me identify.
No_0ne replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Looks somewhat similar to a Webley RIC, so you may be right thinking it's a Bulldog variant. -
I agree completely. However, after looking at the "other listings" of the poster it appears as if he/she is using armslist as a sort of political blog directed towards gun owners. I also found it rather strange (or stupid) that the OP is using Arfcom for legal advice...
-
OP's question is basically rhetorical, as none of the above are generally obtainable now for pre-panic prices...
-
As would I... :x:

Well, lets just brag about it, :pleased:

IIRC, it was AIM that had the shooter's grades, right? I know they had a number of orders or their 91/30's returned/rejected because some buyers thought they weren't up too snuff condition-wise due to (perceived at least) excess rust. I figured those were the ones later listed for the discount prices, would have bought a few myself at that price but was late to the party. OP - AIM, which generally has somewhat lower prices than Classic has been listing round 91/30's for $110, hex for $130 when they have them. Classic does seem to be receiving much greater quantities of product lately. There are numerous reports that the crates being offered currently by Classic contain several hex Mosins/crate. YMMV.

Nice find. Is it "finned"? From the pics that looks like a replacement 91/30 stock, can't really tell for sure though.

OP - dragoon rifles were the "original" 91/30's, produced from ca 1894 up to @1932. They were the same length as 91/30's and were the first Mosins to include the sling slots cut into the stock and fore end. Stocks were virtually identical to the pre-war types used on 91/30's, with slight differences in the handguards, Dragoons used the original M91 sight system w/ the open front site and the Karnolov type rear sights (at least in 1925). Most of these were subsequently upgraded to 91/30 specifications as part of routine pre-war arsenal reworks and refurbs. A few escaped unscathed by the updating process, these are relatively rare and are prized by collectors if in original configuration, most sell for much more than standard 91/30's. The upgrade to the 91/30 specifications was a gradual process begun @1928 and not completed until 1936 or so. For a brief period, 91/30's and original dragoons were produced simultaneously. There are known examples of rifles which show "mixed" 91/30 and dragoon parts, most of these were probably wartime repairs to dragoons which had never been upgraded. Without pics of all the components of your rifle, it is impossible to tell exactly what you have,, most likely (as others have posted) it's an "ex-dragoon", not in the 91/30 configuration. "Force matched" may include strikeouts, lineouts, "re-numbering" of parts on which the original serial numbers have been ground off, or serials which were applied to replacement parts that had never had a number applied. The re-numbering process includes examples which are stamped or electropenciled. Interestingly, the vast majority or Mosins advertised as "numbers matching" are actually the latter, as either they are EPed (never used in the original manufacturing process) or stamped with slight variations from the font applied to the receiver, which is the "correct" font for the original stampings. See: http://www.7.62x54r.net and http://www.mosinnagant.net for much more info.

Mind informing the rest of us debating a crate what the shipping charges were? Did you order any of their ammo crates with it?
-
Went this (Sunday) afternoon. Decent number of vendors there, a good number of guns and some ammo available, prices still at post-panic levels, didn't seem to be much moving out the door. Probably less than normal (for these days) number of tables filled with camo, junk and other assorted flea market items.

q's about chinese mosin, what to do with it?
No_0ne replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
In my definitely not an expert opinion, that rifle barrel is done for. As others have said, there is no way to feasibly repair it for anything remotely close to replacement cost. Barrels on these old guns are difficult to remove, especially with rust issues like this one. If I wanted to keep it, I would explore rust stabilization and prevention measures, turn it into a wall memento, and replace it for practicable shooting by something else. -

Welcome. We are generally very sympathetic to the plight of you less fortunate ones... :nervous:

You are already paying extra for using your card, it's factored in to the costs of goods and services everywhere you shop. As you say, it's the "cost of doing business", all of which is ultimately paid by you, the consumer. Business 101.

Went on a few snipe hunts while young, and later was able to introduce other innocents to this wonderful pastime; I must admit the little buggers are difficult to track and catch though...

Mailed mine Monday (Mar. 4th), card charged today.
