  1.   Don't forget the rape whistles too ...
  2.       Read the other day where the series writers said there won't be any explanations of where, when or how the zombie flu began ...
  3. While there are some on this list that are very obviously priced well over the market, close to half of the ones listed are either at, or near their current market values. This list includes very few of the common 91/30 refurbs that can be bought for $150 - $200 ...
  4. An hour of watching the new characters on this show kind of left me cheering for the zombies ...
  5. Having read everything King wrote since "Carrie" came out I was very disappointed with the Dark Tower series after the first 3 books or so.  The storyline started out with great promise, then gradually devolved to a rehash of many of King's previous themes, and he outdid himself with the gratuitous references to earlier works in this one.  By the end of the series I just wanted it over, apparently King did too as the last book seemed like he just said "to hell with it" and stopped.  Few of King's longer works have made very good movies, I highly doubt this one will be watchable (his novellas and short stories make great movies though) and will certainly be almost incomprehensible to those who never read the books ...
  6. Don't forget one of these: After all, you might as well be comfortable while bugging out ...
  7.   Yes, 500' over "populated" areas, 1000' over "densely populated" areas.  However, RC aircraft are designated as "hobby" vehicles for now, the FAA lost a court case in the spring in which they were trying to assert jurisdiction over "drones" (which is probably not the correct term for quadcopters and their ilk), according to the case Congress has yet to expand any sort of regulatory authority to the FAA over UAV's, other than that already defined by normal airspace restrictions.  As such, as of today there are essentially no guidelines or restrictions on these types of crafts, the FAA recently published some "suggestions" for RC pilots, such as limiting altitude to 400' agl and keeping the craft in "line of sight", however it's generally believed that unless Congress changes some laws that the FAA has zero chance of actually winning a case based on these guidelines...   It's difficult to believe that a pilot of a jetliner could spot any current quadcopter or similar device at a distance of 100' below the flightpath, while flying a 200 mph approach, I know it's often hard to accurately spot one from the ground at 100'.  In any case there are already airspace restrictions around established airports, most airliners will fly into mainly class C and above, which have will have limitations imposed to at least 5 miles from the airport, if there was a UAV flying in the final approach path then there was clearly a violation.  As an aside, the DJI Phantom 3 (the model that was shot down being discussed in this thread) will not fly into classified airspace in GPS mode, and if an attempt is made to launch one within the specified airspace of a known airport, the motors will not activate ...
  8.   The SD card records video and still data from the camera, the flight telemetry is stored on the quadcopter itself, and can be downloaded to a computer through the USB port on the quad ...

  11.   If metals were a great store of value, great granddad's ounce of silver would still be worth the 2 or 3 days labor.  You keep the silver, I'll take all that worthless fiat currency you can spare ...
  12.   And the moral is, stop pissing away your money buying silver ...
  13.   Yes, time can be a funny thing sometimes, once it seemed like the days crawled by, now it's often hard to keep track of them ...

  19.   The Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs cost about $25 billion, and that was in 1960's dollars.  For all that money, and a decade of work, we got a few hundred pounds of moon rocks and dust.  However, as a direct result of the research and development done to allow those journeys, we transformed the modern world in ways never imagined, to include GPS, improved satellite and land-based communications and many new materials which are in daily use today, not to mention the revolution in computing power and electronics caused by the need to miniaturize electronic instrumentation and computers on board the ships.  The total value of the spin-off technologies of our earlier endeavors in space is likely in the tens, if not hundreds of trillions of dollars, a pretty good ROI in anyone's estimation ...
  20.   Good articles.  I imagine the limited bandwidth is due to conserving power, after all the thing runs on a battery, and even the energizer bunny slows down after 3 billion miles and over 9 years ...
  21. At 186280 miles/second, light takes about 4.47 hours to travel 3 billion miles, the approximate distance to Pluto.  Radio waves don't always propagate at the same speed as light, but because most of the distance is through free space, the signals from the Pluto probe should traverse the distance at lightspeed, at least until reaching the Earth's magnetosphere.  There are however specific broadcast "windows"  which act to delay the signals from being transmitted from the craft except at optimum times ...

  24.     Obama ordered NASA to have the moon tinted pink to celebrate the gay marriage victory ...       Careful now, you're treading dangerously close to "climate change" theory there ...
