  1. If the claims in the documents can be backed up, the guy is going to have a lot of problems with this. While he may not be complicit in the shooting, the claims do seem to show that he was manufacturing ammunition without a license, whether any of that ammunition is proscribed in the civilian market is something I don't know much about ...
  2. BTW, the primary reason for moving the top ring down in the bore is to increase the "top" land thickness, which is an area that is prone to failure under high cylinder pressures. The prevention of "burning" rings is of little consequence, power adders drastically increase pressures in the combustion chambers, the ring lands are some of the thinnest areas near the top of the piston and are most likely to fail. Pistons made for blowers, turbos, and nitrous injected engines are also normally beefed up around the bin boss areas for the same reason. The use of forged pistons is generally considered a necessity in these applications.
  3. This. The piston manufacturer can give you far better recommendations based on your particular setup than most anyone else ...
  4. Nice. Are the German variants a lot harder to find than the Bulgarian, Polish, etc.?
  5. I'm not sure that stockpiling items waiting for the next "panic" stage would qualify as a solid investment, but it is true that AR parts can't get any cheaper than they are now ...

  8. Despite the video's attempt to make this into something it's not, the most likely explanation is this event was some type of supernova explosion, perhaps one not seen before. Every time astrophysicists have discovered a different category of nova, it has started out like this, with a newer observation of an object which has some weird characteristics not found in other nova explosions. Of course this same process occurs with the discoveries of other types of celestial objects, but this one has too many similarities to more conventional supernovas to ignore. Current cosmological theories allow for types of supernovas that are extremely rare, and probably some which have not yet been observed, this may well turn out to be one of them. There's a lot of interest in this object, and several competing theories as to it's origin, most of which have been offered by very intelligent scientists with good credentials. This guy isn't one of those, his youtube channel is after all devoted to UFO's, aliens, etc. You can find lots of sources of information on this object that are way better informed than his, you will have to search a long time to find even a few worse ...
  9. Talked to a local guy today who is one of those hobby is "weather", his totals for last night's snow was 8", on top the ice and snow we got last week.
  10. I would guess we have close to a foot total in Northwest Tennessee since Friday, although there was some melting (or rather sublimation) over the weekend. Biggest snowfall here in several years ...
  11. Since I've already posted about this rifle on a couple of the collector forums I frequent I might as well add it here too. For those of you who are not "into" Finnish Mosin Nagants, the M28/30 was the last iteration of the pre-war Finnish Civil Guard's attempts to update and modernize their rifles. It's predecessor was the M28, which gained a reputation for very good accuracy, the M28/30 added to that reputation by it's use in the World Shooting Championships of 1937. Many of the features of the M28/30 were later incorporated into the M39 rifle which was adopted jointly by the Civil Guard and the Finnish army just before the "Winter War" between Finland and the USSR. Production of the M28/30 officially ended in 1940, but some rifles were built during later dates, primarily as the M28/57 and M28/76 marksmanship (or sniper if you prefer) rifles. It is commonly believed that the "late date" M28/30's were made for officer training in marksmanship in the period 1968-1970. Few examples are known today. This is my post from the other forums: " Picked this one up during the holidays, thought it would be a good Christmas present to myself. The rifle was advertised on one of the common listing sites of arms as a "1970 M39". The picture clearly showed it to be in an M28/30 stock although little else could be determined from it. Intrigued, I took the chance and bought it over the phone. The rifle turned out to be a 1970 M28/30, in a post-war (what else) stock. It has a 2-stage trigger, shimmed action, but no barrel sleeve as my other M28/30 does. The tang date shows the receiver to be a 1913 Izhevsk, with the normal mix of various manufacturers stamps on the remaining parts. I knew from other references these late date M28/30's existed, but this is the first one I've come across. Although most of my collecting interest is in WWII and earlier rifles, I like this one a lot."

  19. The 1911 is a 100 year old platform, with at best only minor changes during that time. Therefore, anybody who likes 1911's while decrying the lack of innovation among firearms manufacturers is bordering on hypocrisy ... BTW, I really like 100 year old guns ...
