Really sad news, condolences to his friends and family. I can't say I really knew him, other than reading many of his posts on TGO and a couple of mutual quotes back and forth, but it's evident from the outpouring of sympathy that he had many friends here and will be sorely missed.

I think I do it mostly because I hate shopping. I did used to get some strange looks at the checkout counter at Wallyworld when I showed up with a dozen tubes of toothpaste. Since discovering Amazon, and now that I finally figured out how to do online curbside pickup, I haven't actually set foot in a store since last February. Barring some sort of internet meltdown, I will never again walk into a Walmart ...

My very limited experience with Edward Jones was managing my father's existing account for a while with them after his death. I learned pretty quickly that Edward Jones mainly excels in raking in fess for themselves. I no longer have any Edward Jones accounts ...

In the big picture, the yearly foibles of the football team at UT really aren't important. The university is concentrating now on more important issues, like which non-gender specific pronouns are acceptable ...

That is probably a better word choice ... For Tennessee, any wins are few and far between now ...

True enough, but even at a 50% win clip, Vandy is (outside of maybe Kentucky) still Tennessee's best chance for an SEC win each year ...

That would be tough on Tennessee, Vandy is one of their few likely SEC wins each year ...

It's best to start off low and work your way up until you find a suitable load. The problem with using load data for this powder is that the Soviets used a variety of powders over the years for this ammo. Some rounds were loaded for rifle usage, most of the rounds made in the last 50 years were designed for machine guns, some of which were manufactured very recently chambered in 7.62x54r. The MG stuff was/is a good bit hotter than the earlier 147 gr rifle rounds. There were a number of distinct types of 7.62x54r ammo produced over the 130 years it's been in production as well, from low recoil 123 gr training ammo up to 182 gr "match" ammo and the aforementioned MG ammo. Different countries also utilized different powders over the years, it's also not unheard of to find 2 or more different powders in rounds coming from the same tins. Thus, while the powder you have may be marked "7.62x54r", there's no way of telling what the actual burn rate is, short of carefully working up loads for your particular use.

Cheaper Than Dirt has lots of ammo!

My bet is, if you ask around, you can find somebody in East Tennessee that has a ditch that needs stopping up. Of course you have to find a time to ask when all you hillbillies aren't out running around chasing your sisters ...

A Modest Proposal for President Trump
No_0ne replied to 1gewehr's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
The problem with your theory is that Trump doesn't give a rip about guns, gun rights, gun owners, the NFA or anything else mentioned here. He may indeed go out "scorched earth", but it won't be a version that has anything even remotely to do with Second Amendment rights ... -
Y'all don't have ditches up that way?

A Modest Proposal for President Trump

The kid who did the shooting may be able to mount a successful self defense case, I don't know enough about the facts of the situation to know one way or another. I don't see any way the one who purchased the rifle for Rittenhouse is going to beat a straw purchase charge though ...

The same factors that typically cause these episodes. Ammo and component manufacturing capacity is limited, even in so-called "normal" times the capacity is nearly maxed out. This is in fact good business practice by the manufacturers, as excess capacity generally represents capital that isn't generating revenue or profits. Every few years, people seem to panic over external events, presidential elections and mass shootings are two such events that often precipitate these panics. At that point a lot of people run out and attempt to buy up ammo and guns, many times in large quantities ("hoarding", you call it) thus setting off and exacerbating the shortage of these items. This shortage is a temporary condition, eventually the markets settle out and things return to more or less "normal". However, during the interim, people who read or hear about the rise in prices and the shortage of ammo, components and guns also decide that this represents some sort of "end-of-times" type of event and start paying up to whatever the market demands for these items. At that point, others begin to market items they have to cash in on the craze. Then, of course, we get the inevitable barrage of posts on sites like this one decrying the profiteers, the shortages, the prices, pretty much everything but their own lack of preparation and foresight. Meanwhile, those of us who "hoard" are simply waiting out the insanity, once that's over we will go back to "hoarding" again ...

I didn't miss your point, I don't agree with it. By your definition, I'm a "hoarder". I'm not selling, but if I were it wouldn't bother me in the slightest to price my stuff at whatever the current market will bear. When I buy stuff from others, I don't ask or care what they paid for it, my only concern is what it's going to cost me. When I sell, the price I paid is similarly irrelevant to the buyer. As for your "resentment", or anybody else's, that's your problem, not the sellers. When the market catches up and prices return to "normal" (what that actually means is debatable) as they inevitably will, do yourself a favor and become better prepared for the next shortage, which is equally inevitable, as these things have been running in cycles for decades. As for Joe Blow "screwing up the supply signal", that doesn't hold water either. If Joe is making purchases during a time of plentiful supply, he is in fact helping to drive a market that is already depressed. If we "hoarders" weren't stocking up when things are available at relatively cheap prices, manufacturers might cut back on supply even more than they otherwise would have. It's always amazing to see how many here who profess to be fans of capitalism and free market economies really aren't, nor apparently do they truly understand how one works ...

So how would you define how much someone "needs"? Sounds like the ones who "bought it cheap and stacked it deep" were the smart ones ...
