A few years back, on another board dedicated to East European milsurps, the question arose as to what Comm-bloc weapons remained in the former Soviet and Soviet-dominated states which might be importable to the US. Several of the bonded importers of the time were active in this forum, and stated that while large numbers of weapons remained in inventories in Serbia, relations between their government and ours were poor, and thus future importation from that region was unlikely. Another problem, Serbia is a landlocked nation, which means that even if an importer managed to arrange a shipment of weapons, the likelihood of it making it to the coast without being hijacked along the way was slim to none. I don't know if that situation has improved since then, but the consensus among several dealers in the trade at that time was that Serbian weapons would remain unobtainable for the foreseeable future ... Added, another problem noted with importation of remaining hoards of weapons and ammo from this, and other areas, was that due to the ongoing conflicts worldwide, prices of any available supplies had risen far above what the milsurp market in the US would support. It seems that the various insurgents across the globe would simply outbid us, even if the other obstacles could be overcome ...

Growing up, we, like everyone around, had a large garden. My grandfather, who lived across a cotton field from us had a truly immense gardening operation, more akin to a truck farm. I spent many hours in our, as well as his garden. After leaving home, I haven't raised so much as a single plant. Reading this thread reinforces that decision. Grocery stores and farmer's markets have lots of relatively cheap produce, which I can pick up at my leisure without breaking a sweat. I like it much better that way ...

This^. Virtually all transactions not involving direct transfer of currency from person to person already uses similar (albeit as MacGyver already pointed out, antiquated) mechanisms. It's inevitable that these are updated and modernized to reflect the needs of today's economy, unless you're willing to devolve into some sort of barter system ...

This^. Uniformed officer, highly visible, with a patrol car parked out front. At one point, schools with such an arrangement had never suffered any shooting events. That has since changed, but only slightly, the vast majority of school shootings occur only in institutions without a visible police or SRO presence. Most potential shooters will seek out (perceived) easier targets ...
