  1. No matter how long the pandemic shortages last, I'll have Charmin ...
  2. Fortunately, I'm wearing my trusty tinfoil fedora today ...
  3. If you want to get technical about it, these appear to be the TS carbine version of the Carcano, where Oswald used a 91/38 short rifle. Very similar, but the Oswald rifle had a slightly longer barrel than the carbines ...
  4. All of them, apparently ...
  5. "The children now love luxury; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are tyrants, not servants of the households. They no longer rise when their elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize over their teachers." -Socrates, as attributed by Plato, 5th century B.C. I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint" -Hesiod, 8th century B.C.
  6. You get freezing rain when warmer air is located on top of a layer of colder. What starts out as rain above freezes as it hits the lower, colder air or surfaces. Therefore, while unlikely, freezing rain is possible even when the surface temps are well below freezing ...
  7. I am fully expecting them to notify me most any day now ...
  8. When I'm scalping this after I win it, I hope it's worth a whole lot more than that ...

    Tires

LTX AT/2. My truck uses the 275/60R20 size. They give good traction for the type of driving I do, which is over the road/highway/city driving. In addition to the outstanding wear, they have been a good riding and driving tire. I was always too cheap to buy Michelins in the past, now I'm a convert after this set ...

    Tires

A counterpoint - in May of 2017 I put the first set of Michelin tires I've ever owned on my truck (2014 Ram 1500 4wd). I'm now at 83k miles, I'll probably put another set just like them on at 90k. Far and away the best I've run ...
  11. Nope, won't work, but after I win this and successfully gouge the hell out of Gunbroker buyers I will be able to buy more old WWI era rifles ...
  12. After I win this, I'll probably do something similar, except auction off the baggies on Gunbroker instead ...
  13. Its an odd size/material request. Not many common applications for plain screws, especially a #6x1. Since it's for a gun, you might try looking it up on Numrich or one of the other surplus gun parts sites, Liberty Tree, etc.
  14. You'll have to activate the phone with PagePlus (this is pretty much true with any carrier where you roll your own phones). Most of the time this involves using their online activation, which generally is pretty simple, mostly consisting of typing in a bit of information or clicking on some buttons. Usually, to port (transfer) your existing number over, you'll need your ESN or MEID number, this is like a unique serial number which identifies your phone. This can be found on the phone, on an Android it's under "settings", typically on a page called "about phone" or something like that. It's not a complicated process, you can always find somebody to help out as most folks have been through the process before with their own phones ...
  15. I didn't see it, but heard of a papered Vietnam bringback SVD selling at auction recently for close to $60k ...
  16. Not a Mosin, per se, but another old Russian rifle: https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/889473232
  17. I guess that means that bringing up "gays" again is out too ...
  18. At my high school, also in the 70's, nobody smoked joints in the designated smoking area out back. Teachers went out there to smoke, so it was monitored. Now, the boys bathroom next to the gym typically had smoke rolling out the doors during class breaks, not tobacco ...
  19. That will get you an 91/30 or some carbines, with some searching. You're probably going to have to move beyond gun shows and local stores though. Online opens up a world of possibilities ... BTW, ammo is tough to find now as well.
  20. Since we're resurrecting this old thread, for those who think there's any validity to this analogy: automobile engine valve springs are cycled 100's of times per minute, at high temperatures. If you do this to your mag springs, yes, they will wear out faster. Otherwise, keep them loaded, forever if you want ...
  21. Mosins are out there, but they're not the fabled $100 rifle anymore. The flood of imports ended several years ago, dealers and distributors have sold through their stocks and all that are available now are on the secondary market. If you've followed older milsurp rifle sales for any time, you'll know that once the primary sources dry up there's a gradual increase in prices over time, as the huge supply dwindles away. We've seen this happens with German and other Mousers, Enfields, 1903's and Garands, etc. It's a normal progression and has been going on for years. With the current craze on firearms in general going on, this process has been hastened somewhat for Mosins, but it was inevitable that they would become more scarce and higher-priced on the open market. Of course, you'll still find plenty of people who will blab on and on about how they remember when there were crates of these available at $29 and such, but none of that is relevant to today ...

    Coved Shot

    Had my first today.
  23. There doesn't have to be a leak for this to happen. If you do the math, its surprising how few rounds per person are available yearly from manufacturers even in "normal" times. When everybody decides to buy at once, shortages are inevitable ...
