You can fix some of that issue by creating a "swale" in the backyard to draw water away from the house. MacGyver is right about the crawlspace, it's better for it to be above the yard grade for drainage purposes. In older houses, such as mine, the yard surrounding the house "grows" taller over time, due to degradation of clippings and such thus creating additional layers of soil. This leads to a crawlspace that is no longer above the outside grade, but below. That's an issue I'm about to deal with myself. Some areas will be fixed with some leveling/grading away from the house, others with the installation of some sort of curtain drain. I'm not looking forward to it, but it's time for me to address the problem, as lately water has begun pooling under my house during the monsoon seasons ...

I'm a collector. As such, I have no interest in scoping or otherwise modifying old milsurps. However, I do understand why others were so inclined when both Mosin guns and surplus ammo were so inexpensive. Now that neither of these are readily available or cheap on either the primary or secondary markets, I'm not sure what the attraction is. There are far better platforms in modern rifles for building accurate range or hunting guns. It's also probably cheaper to build a modern rifle than an old Mosin, at least if you're paying today's prices for the guns ...

Ex-snipers get "re-snipered" regularly. You can pick up a refurbed PU scope, or one of the reproduction scopes and mounts that were made in Eastern Europe or Ukraine a few years ago. A good gunsmith can drill and tap for the base. BTW, although original scopes are readily available, mounts and bases tend to be rarer, and pricey when you find an original Russian example. As such, if you pay to have a competent gunsmith to "re-sniper" one, and buy original parts, you typically wind up with a gun that costs you as much or more than what the original snipers go for ...

Rather than oil, follow the example of most military storage facilities around the world and pack them in grease. It's a myth that long term storage of rifles like Mosin Nagants and others were stored in cosmolene. Cosmolene was (is) used almost exclusively by the US, other countries mainly used grease - i.e. plain old axle grease. It works very well as a rust preventative, and is much less likely to leak. Regardless of how you pack them, water intrusion will always cause damage, I would think carefully about storing anything underwater that I wished to be functional over many years. Pack your guns in grease, store them away in a secure location. After all, that method worked reasonably well for the millions of surplus WWII weapons the CommBloc comrades packed away 70 odd years ago against invasion by the evil, imperialist Western nations ...

Probably about right. I wasn't familiar with this particular variant, but a quick search on the interwebs revealed how these were priced at about $1000 when introduced back in 2017. The original Vepr's, in x54r, were made in Russia and fall under the current import bans, so their prices have been rising for years. These are apparently modified versions of Molot's x39 and 5.45mm rifles with some US made parts to meet the 922 requirements. I suppose it's a niche company marketing these, with up to 45 round magazines they are undoubtedly popular among the EOWAWKI crowd and given the current mania retailers are taking advantage of those willing to fork over the cash for one ...

I might not know who they are, or exactly where the shot placement is, but I could put some rounds in the big, scary blob moving through my house ...

I've had both my shots. I don't see it as any different than the vaccinations I had when young, smallpox, polio, etc. Of course, in those days my mom decided what shots I got and when ...

They show up fairly regularly at gunshows, gun shops, Armslist, Gunbroker, etc. Probably one of the easier to find variants, along with other ComBloc iterations like the Polish and Chinese versions. Make sure you check out the trader on gunboards.com as well, it's the premier Mosin site on the net now. If you're looking for fresh imports, that ship has sailed, except for some really rare shipments that occasionally trickle in from buyers overseas. There was a small lot of Chinese T-53's that came in a year or two ago from Albania, that's the last I heard of. Ethiopia was dumping some obsolete arms last year, but I don't remember seeing any M44's in that one, it was mostly old Berdans and the like ...
