  1. Not really, but I do have faith in their unfailing desire to remain in office. There are several issues in politics which are "no-win" scenarios, in that while its OK to rail against one side or the other rhetorically to rile up certain supporters, actually casting your vote may lead to unintended consequences like having a legitimate opponent in the primary or general election. Gun control is one of those, particularly for Dems elected from otherwise red states, abortion and health care are examples for R's, at least in some areas. Gridlock is often beneficial for your re-election chances, as it prevents you from actually doing something that might prove unpopular ...
  2. Well. Not sure what that has to do with the Chernobyl incident, as it seems to be some sort of commercial for a game. It does rank near the top as one of the stupidest things I've watched lately ...
  3. I have no doubt that all the emphasis on electrical grids, solar panels and the like will increase demand for copper. Another reason for increased copper prices is the reopening of the economy. Copper prices are considered an excellent leading indicator of economic activity, at the end of recessions copper always rises dramatically before settling back in to a more "normal" price. As prices rise, mines are opened back up, recycling increases, and prices come back into down as demand and supply eventually reach equilibrium ...
  4. True. However, neighboring Pripyat, where many of the images purported to be from Chernobyl are actually taken, was a restricted city, so those who lived there were all pretty much assigned to do so, as part of the necessity of maintaining the Soviet industries and infrastructure supporting them. It's also true that much of the population of Chernobyl was massacred multiple times throughout history, first in Jewish pogroms and later by both sides fighting in the Russian civil war and then the Nazis. It's one of those Ukrainian cities with a lot of history, much of it violent, long before the nuclear disaster ...
  5. And the "two or three" democrats are the ones who have publicly gone on record stating their objections to removing the filibuster rules. I strongly suspect that if ever comes to an actual vote, you'll see more than two or three with doubts. Long time members are cognizant of the fact that one party doesn't remain in control forever, and changing the Senate rules to promote passage of highly controversial bills can, and will come t haunt the party who does this. It's easy to remonstrate about "ending the filibuster" when you know it has no chance of happening, however much harder to support this if it looks like its about to pass. Much like the House R's on ending Obamacare, passing all those resolutions a few years ago knowing it wouldn't pass the Senate ...
  6. I thought pretty much the same thing, and stated that several times on here in 2013. I was wrong ... Doubtful. While I don't doubt that retail ammo prices have been depressed the last couple of years, mostly from overproduction and a slight lessening of demand, manufacturers have really good accountants who can do cost analysis to the point that they know exactly what each round costs at every stage of production and distribution. If the true cost of ammo was much higher than it was selling for, you would have seen a gradual rise in retail prices, especially for the more popular calibers, most of which run at pretty much full production all the time ...
  7. There are actually 3 Democratic senators who are on record as of April 12th who are against eliminating the filibuster (Manchin, Sinema (Az) and Leahy (Vt)), while another (Cantwell(Wa)) hasn't formally stated an opinion yet. There's little impetus for any of these 3 to change their mind, as by refusing to go along with changing the Senate rules they have effectively made themselves the most powerful sitting members of the Senate. In order for any Democrat bill to pass, these senators' demands must be met or the bill fails ...
  8. "Sane" and "calm" are of course relative terms out here in the hinterlands ...
  9. Wolf and Tula, like other manufacturers, make a variety of types and loads on ammunition. Wolf Gold, which is their brass-cased variety, is generally considered about as good as anything made domestically by many people. On the other hand, as greg pointed out, some guns don't seem to run reliably on steel cased ammo, however many Comm-bloc surplus weapons feed steel case ammo with no problems and some seem to even prefer it. Ammoseek is normally a good resource for finding in-stock ammo, but lately supplies sell out so fast that by the time their bots list it, it's already gone. Some stores don't allow their wares to be listed on Ammoseek and similar sites, Aim Surplus is one. Your best bet for finding supplies is to be on everyone's mailing list and be prepared to move quickly once the email blast goes out. Once the current shortage is over, remember the lessons learned and "but it cheap and stack it deep" as the saying goes so you won't be caught short-handed the next time we have one of these "sky is falling" runs on ammo ...
  10. Neither. Real guns are made from steel and wood ...
  11. Most of the time you'll find that different guns seem to run better on different ammo. This question comes up a lot, and there never seems to be much agreement on it. Experiment with as many different loads as you can with your particular firearm and make the determination yourself for whatever arms you normally shoot. That being said, given the present circumstances with ammo availability, if you're short on supply you might consider just settling for whatever you can find at a price you're comfortable with ...
  12. The President doesn't want you to have mags that hold more than ten rounds. I don't think this is really news. As I recall, he (and many others in the Obama administration) was saying things like this 9 years ago, when he chaired the committee Obama created after the Sandy Hook shooting. That ultimately resulted in nothing being passed by a Democrat controlled Senate. I suspect the same results now ...
  13. She will be lucky not to wind up doing some jail time over this. In any case, she can say goodbye to her guns (and permit too should she have one). On another note, as someone who has sat through more bus driver safety meetings than I can count, drivers are always coached to rarely be late and never be early on their routes. I don't recall ever hearing that one of the reasons for this was people pulling guns on you ...
  14. I would have been much more surprised if he had been subject to prosecution, arrest, etc. It pays to be the relative of the rich and powerful, regardless of their political persuasion ...
  15. This. An easy solution, if you don't like the rules, rent somewhere else ...
  16. It's Reddit. That pretty much sums it up ...
  17. Absolutely. And I would add, in reference to the OP's post, my (primers, ammo, etc.), my choice. What I choose to do, or not do with my stuff is my business. I'll buy, sell or give away at my discretion, without asking for anybody else's opinion, permission or forgiveness. I'll also accord everyone else the same privilege without ranting on the internet about their choices ...
  18. I can't say that I've never done anything that stupid/careless/negligent. I won't say that I will never do something that stupid/careless/negligent. I will say that if, or when I do, I won't post pictures of it on the internet ...
  19. Me either. However, I wouldn't be inclined to be PO'ed at how anybody chooses to price their stuff. I subscribe to this maxim:
