  1. All this discussion about balances, and their accuracy takes me back to some of my chemistry classes in college. We sometimes used analytical balances, that read to 1/10000 of a gram. They were mounted on columns that were isolated from the rest of the building structure and were extremely sensitive. The lab instructors often recommended holding your breath while taking measurements, as even though the weighing pans were located behind glass doors, breathing on the machines would sometimes affect the readouts ...
  2. You could be right, I don't know enough about equipment costs, profit margins and all the other factors that affect ammo manufacturer expansion. I do remember seeing an interview with a couple of the manufacturer execs a few years ago, in the last shortage. Both those guys alluded to the fact that purchasing more equipment and setting up new lines was pretty risky, considering the cyclical nature of the business. Maybe their projections this time are different though ...
  3. Yes, 11 of them tried that several years back. Didn't turn out too well though ...

  5. These might be the closet thing ever made to an indestructible gun. Ruger used to have an article about a range rental gun which came form a an indoor range which tracked rounds shot closely. The 4" Security Six had over a million rounds shot thorough it when Ruger bought it back ...
  6. I'm already vaccinated, but for 5 bills I'll do it again ...

  9. There are programmable locks made for doors which are essentially deadbolts with electronic keypads. Many are "smart" devices which allow you to program one-time codes which can be passed on to delivery drivers, housekeepers, etc. Its also possible to sign up for an account on UPS, USPS, FedEx and others which allow you to put comments with your order. In my case i also have my normal UPS driver's cell, when he's not on the route he passes any notes along to whoever is driving that day. I would guess something similar exists for locks applicable to automatic gates, but as I have no experience with these it's just a guess ...
  10. Yes, its a bit like stating that we hold illegal actions to be against the law. On the other hand, I wonder how long it would take for any of these state laws, regulations or resolutions to be retracted if the Feds were to threaten to withhold funds ...

  12. Absolutely. The 357 is the greatest handgun ever made, shoots 38 and 357, and made of steel and wood, just as God intended ...

  15. As long as they're at your house, eating your rats and your snakes I'm good with them too ...
  16. I own one acre. As long as the snakes are nowhere on that acre, I'm OK with them. If they're on the property, let alone in the house, I immediately go into territorial killer extinction-level mode (maybe not immediately, sometimes it's preceded by a brief bout of screaming like a little girl). I know all the arguments about how beneficial snakes are, "good" snakes and "bad" snakes, etc. As far as I'm concerned, they're all deadly psychopaths bent on murder and mayhem ...
  17. Yes, he's not too popular around here. However, that's been the case pretty much from the start. I also doubt that many members here were ever convinced of his credibility or truthfulness, long before any of the emails and other conversations became public ...
  18. I'm not sure that it's just those two. There are others who recognize the fallacy of jettisoning the filibuster, knowing that at some point the Democrats will need it to hold up Republican bills too. Sinema and Manchin are the two public faces now, as both are from states where Republicans have, or have been in the majority for years. As long as they are willing to object publicly to abolishing the filibuster, others who might feel the same way but are elected in states where liberals are agitating for them to do so don't have to take a stand on the issue. One thing all politicians hate is actually having to make potentially controversial votes ... Very true. No need to spend political capital on things that don't have a chance of passing, or forces the Congress critters to take an actual position on unpopular issues ...
  19. But subject to be highly profitable for them ...
  20. That's almost certainly true, not only for gun control but for most of the "hot button" ideas promoted by both parties. Depending on how you frame the questions, voters are roughly equally divided on gun control, abortion, school choice, balanced budgets and deficit reduction, "gender" issues, etc. None of these issues are proven winners at the ballot box but are useful in inflaming the more rabid supporters on either side, and equally advantageous when fundraising for elections. When you get down to the "nitty gritty" of politics, the single most defining factor of virtually all politicians is their overwhelming desire to get elected and remain in office, a lot of the things that both parties seemingly advocate don't accomplish this and so will remain as "talking points" rather than actual legislative initiatives ...
  21. Only through the process of reconciliation, which applies ( as part of the law authorizing this process) only to issues about monetary items in the budget. Gun control is not one of those, so reconciliation can't be used to pass it in the evenly divided Senate. Of course, that's assuming that they could get all of the current Democrat members to vote for whatever bill is up, a process that's proving difficult. Back in 2013, after the Connecticut school shooting, the Democrats had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, yet couldn't pass as much as a background check bill due to the reluctance of some of their members to pass any gun-related legislation which might lead to a loss in the next election (the Republicans controlled the House at the time, so it was probably a moot point anyway). If they couldn't corral all their members into voting for such measures then, it's unlikely they could do the same now, so gun control bills are essentially dead for the current Senate term. There are advantages to the "partisan gridlock" we hear so much about ...
  22. What's the current over/under on how many pages this goes before it gets nixed? Or even better, how many more pages before somebody actually posts something new ...
  23. True, but it's also possible that they got carbines with no mags, or maybe mags with no carbines. Obviously, they've managed to source some mags from somewhere, now they get to sell these too. My bet is they're allowing the M1 buyers first choice to keep those folks from jumping their butts about selling carbines without them, then turning around and offering mags ...
