  1. Don't feel bad. I've been asking about discounts from barbers ever since half of my hair fell out. They're not very cooperative either ...
  2. Both knees and my lower back are shot, but thus far I have yet to be struck by any projectiles, other than errantly thrown footballs over the years ...
  3. Cool. Mind picking up some beer on the way?
  4. But that means I would have to scroll all the way back up again ...
  5. I had a grandfather that ran bootleg whiskey from up north, if that counts ...
  6. And for today's absolutely useless trivia tidbit, it's "tinker's dam". Tinkers (metalsmiths) often made a "dam" out of clay, dough, mud, etc. to hold liquid solder temporarily in place while cooling. They then discarded the now-useless dam of material once the solder had solidified enough to patch the hole or seam in the object they were repairing ...
  7. From fda.org: Acting Commissioner - Janet Woodcock, M.D. From Wikipedia - 22,450 tons, however its not clear if these are metric, or standard ass tons ...
  8. Well, what's the purpose of having authority, except to abuse it now and then ...
  9. Unfortunately, that little insurrection didn't turn out too well for her and her contemporaries ... Any idea where these were being assembled? I know that both Axis and Allied forces produced these in WWII ...
  10. Soviet PEM sniper rifle. An original version is quite spendy today ...
  11. Badges? We don't need no stinking badges ... Oh, I don't know. There's probably a picture somewhere of Sleepy Joe firing his double barrel into the air to scare away the bad guys ... From the ad text, looks like the MG prohibitions were already in effect. Even today, police and other non-prohibited purchasers can probably pick up MG's for what most would consider bargain basement prices ...
  12. You do have that hammer lying around somewhere ...
  13. And this is of course why we need to outlaw gun ownership by civilians. Once owning all these guns is illegal, these criminals won't be able to carry them around and commit all these crimes ...
  14. My choice is always wired cams over wifi. I use cams that run off POE lines (power over internet, one ethernet cable provides both access to the network and power) that connect to my home LAN. I also do not allow the cams access to the internet, nor do I use their online storage. Using the provided cloud storage and and the aps that allow you to view remotely over the internet also allows the cams to "talk" to the Chinese servers all of these utilize for storage, updates, etc. While I'm sure that works ok for most applications, it does open your home network up to the wider world, and whatever shenanigans the Chinese are up to at the moment, something I'm not comfortable with. I also further isolate the cams and other "internet of things" devices onto a separate network via VLans, something I'm still working on. As for remote access, I'm using a VPN setup, which allows me to access the parts of the network that the cams run on. It's been an educational experience learning how all this works, as I started out knowing less than most folks grandmothers about networking, security, etc. ...
  15. Then there's the guys like me. My truck gets washed when it rains. Once a year or so I take out the floormats and shake the top 2 inches of crap out. I also figure that oil leaks prevent rust, and oil is fairly cheap. My last truck was at 363k when I decided to park it and buy another. Sold it earlier this year, the new owner is happily driving it daily, albeit it's much cleaner than when I owned it. I figure it will quit any day now as a result of all that cleaning ...
  16. My guess is that its related to the fallout from their recent scandals. It seems some employees were opening up fraudulent accounts in their customers names, to increase "cross-selling" of products. Eliminating many of the retail types of accounts might be one way of ensuring that similar events don't happen in the future ...
  17. Can't help you on the exact prices, as it depends on how you define "normal". 30 carbine is not a caliber I buy, as I don't have a rifle in that chambering, but I do remember several discussions on here and elsewhere about ongoing shortages and high prices for this ammo, even during times when other calibers were plentiful and relatively cheap. It seems to be one of those rounds that are only manufactured at irregular intervals, and is thus in short supply a lot of the time ...
  18. Probably the best way to do that is to read the opinions, both majority and concurring, of the DC and Illinois cases (McDonald and Heller)from a few years back. That's probably as close as you'll find of the current thinking on the Court. Another interesting read is the report from the Senate Judiciary committee from 1982, one of the earliest government proclamations that the Second Amendment guaranteed an individual's right to bear arms, as opposed to the generally prevailing view of most courts that it represented only a right of state-sponsored militias ...
  19. For the same reasons that other states and municipalities have restrictions. The SCOTUS has ruled on many occasions that the individual states can restrict the type and method of "bearing arms". They have yet to really codify exactly what those restrictions are, or can be, preferring instead to rule (or more often, refuse to take such cases up) on a case-by-case basis. I doubt that changes anytime soon ...
  20. Oh I agree, but I was accounting for how others might eat. In my case, 40 hotdogs is about right for me and 7 other friends ...
  21. Much ado about nothing. Just buy 5 packages of buns, along with 4 of hotdogs, and you have a perfect match. Then, just invite 39 friends over for a cookout ...
  22. My solution is simple. I never buy anything that isn't a V8 ...
