  1. It was beginning to look as if the current shortage/panic was easing up some.  Although the outright ban won't take effect until the current import licenses expire at least a year from now, this new wrinkle is quite likely to extend the shortages and price increases fro the foreseeable future.  Just another reason why "hoarding" is the way to go ...

  2. Which Finnish variant are we talking about here?  !891, dragoon, M24, M27, M28, M28/30, M39, Finnish 91/30, what?  "Finned" 91/30's often bring no real premium over their Russian/Soviet counterparts, while an M27RV might bring $4k plus now.  If you happen to own a SAT 91, or a 1935 M27 VKT the sky is the limit.  To determine the value, we'll need a lot more information, and pics if you have them ...

I never said I don't eat meat. It's interesting that diehard carnivores are just as militant as some of the vegetarians out there. It's like meat-eating has become some sort of macho sport. I like ribs just as much as the next person but I can also appreciate some meals I've had that didn't include meat.

    If there's no meat, it ain't a meal, it's a snack ...

Growing up I was always told TN had some strange law about who could claim ownership of road kill. I always wondered if it was true.

Also, we have seriously derailed this thread. 😀

I know this isn't your first time here, Erik ...

Sorry, I believe that would be my fault with post #3.

Don't beat yourself up, derailment is inevitable around here ...

I've had plant based burgers so good you couldn't tell they were not real meat.

Maybe you can't tell them from meat.  As an avowed carnivore, i can.  There's a reason why we have incisors you know ...

I know very little about medicine of the metabolic and chemical makeup of the human body. I am a numbers guy. What gives me pause is everything I see points to a small group of folks getting very wealthy from this. I can think of no other reason these folks are pushing so damned hard for everyone to get this shot.

True, but how is this different from most every aspect of modern (and past) life ...

For what it’s worth, if you’ve got ETFs in your retirement fund, you’ve probably at least got Pfizer and J&j in there  🙂

Also true for many mutual funds as well.  My med-based funds are doing well these days, but again that's been true for years ...

Is this a modern day version of the bomb threats we had? Somebody would call one in and we’d head to the lake. Never happened on a rainy day.

I assumed this happened everywhere. Ya’ll never had a bomb threat on a sunny Friday about lunchtime?

During my tenure as a teacher, we had 4 or 5 bomb threats.  Best I remember, all occurred on Fridays, and all were called in roughly around lunch.  At least 2 of them were later found to have been made by a former student, working in a job where he got off at noon each Friday, who's current girlfriend was still in high school ...

  7. I hope everything goes well for you.  Having had back surgeries on 3 occasions, albeit at the other end of the spine (lumbar), I can definitely sympathize.  Don't scrimp on whatever they give you for rehab/post surgical stretching and strengthening, that goes a long way towards eventually alleviating pain and helping you avoid subsequent "dissection" events ...

Pretty sure If I saw Blue Oyster Cult I’d have to remember it.

Ah, it wasn't them.  I forgot to include BOC in my list, in fact at the time they were one of my favorite bands.  Their omission was one of the many "senior moments" I seem to have now ...

December 31, 1981.  My very young self had a 3rd row seat to ZZ Top in the Mid-South Coliseum.  Joan Jett started the show.  Good times.

July 4th, 1976, the Bicentennial Jam at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis Tn.  The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZTop in one show.  There was another intro act, but I can no longer remember who it was ...
