I must have missed something. WHo died? Working nights I don't see the news. Thanks
Its Dec. 7th. Pearl Harbor day.......

AR500 is very hard and abrasion resistant. Its used for super heavy duty stuff, like dump truck beds. That said 5160 quenched in oil at non-magnetic will be hard as a rock, but it may shatter if you get it that hard. You could temper it back some and still have 55-62 RC hardness and it'd probably take almost as much as AR500. Just a fyi you could go to a junkyard and buy a pack of truck springs, and those will be anywhere from 2-4' long or longer, 3/8" thick or more, and 50-55 rc hardness. And you can probably get an old pack for $20 which can include 5-7 indivdual springs.
Do they even teach Pearl Harbor in schools anymore? I'd like to go to Hawaii and see the memorial, before the Arizona just dissipates, which it one day will, then there'll be nothing left.
I saw it on my last deployment, when the ship I was on, the USS Boxer, pulled into Pearl Harbor. Ive never been more proud to man the rails.

Disarmed in a traffic stop
So are there law abiding citizen bumper stickers that we can put on our cars that make it so officers know that we're cool beans? If they want to disarm you to get a warm fuzzy, they're going to do it. If you don't like it, stop complaining and write your Congress critters to get the law changed.
Don't worry I do. And my big thing is more the fact that the guy who qill do aomething bad is gonna have the gun in his lap at the traffic stop. When the officer steps up that'll be the end of it. All those warm and fuzzies that he gets from someone who has done everything right will do nothing but provide false security. I know the man just wants to make it home. But there are always safer jobs. Nobody makes you become a police officer, just like nobody made me sign up for the USMC. I support my local LEO's, and appreciate what they do. But at the end of the day, you are still a civil servant that works for the citizens, not above them. -
I can't stand the man. His abrasive, cocky attitude rubs me the wrong way, and is the exact opposite of what I expect from a professional. Coward or not, hes still a pot stirring ass with an attitude problem.
TN law gives him the right, and the reason is his call. - OS
To bad most officers will never have to answer for their reasons for doing most of what they do. I may seem jaded or upset, but I've seen one to many police officers flip on lights to run the red, speed to nowhere in the cruiser that they drive home on the tax payers dime, and basically abuse the power given to them by the citzen. This is not meant as a blanket statement and I have the utmost respect for those honest LEO's who don't take an oppurtunity to step on your toes when they get the chance. But I have the utmost contempt for those that do things because they can, not because they should. And I will not support officers who do such things, including disarming an honest citzen who has done nothing wrong, just so the officer can get a warm and fuzzy. -
Please don't misunderstand my post as I'm not totally cool with being disarmed. I totally agree with you but in that moment you're at the mercy of the officer. He made a point to tell me I wasn't in trouble for legally having my handgun. He was professional and even let my friend off for speeding.
You are correct that your at the officers mercy, and I'm glad he was a professional about it. That said, it still irrates me when an LEO feels the need to disarm someone who has done no wrong, and openly provided information about having a weapon and its whereabouts. -
Disarmed in a traffic stop
Spots replied to tennessee01tacoma's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Ok let me rephrase. I do understand that its illegal to carry a handgun, with the hcp being the defense. That said, I still see no reason for disarming a law abiding citzen. I've met some damn fine officers, but I've meet some damn fine idiots who I wouldn't trust with a slingshot. I will admit to not being as studied up on the subject as I should be, but I will leave off with this. As I said before, the man who is gonna shoot you at a traffic stop isn't gonna show you his hcp, and let you take his weapon. So the officer can give himself a false sense of security all day. And just because its legal, doesn't make it right. -

Spots replied to tennessee01tacoma's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Sounds like he was professinal. That said, he has no reason, nor right to disarm anyone who is in legal possession of a handgun with an HCP. If he conducted a search due to probable cause, and you didn't have an HCP then yes. He is a public servant, not an overlord or sheepdog. Sorry for the rant, it just gets on my nerves that any police officer thinks hes safer by disarming the man who openly discloses that he has a weapon and an hcp. The guy whos gonna shoot him at a trarfic stop isn't gonna tell him he has the gun beforehand. -
Well, I wouldn't want someone swinging a 24 pound hunk of steel at something two feet from my hands! No thank you.
A striker has to be well versed in smithing. He needs to be able to follow the smiths rhythm, land accurate blows, and swing a big hammer. The smith has to turn the steel at the correct times, and not in the middle of the strikers swing along with trusti.g the striker not to break the anvil or hit him. -
For a urban or suburban area nothing beats gas. But I love the smell of coal coking out, the old school feel, just connecting to the old ways. And yes i know charcoal is even older, but coal is so predominate in this area, and has been for years that its part of the experince for me
I'd leave the south facing side open for light. It'll be really dark inside otherwise.
Ill have interior lights wired in before Im done. Qhat worrys me with a lot of ambient light is seeing the colors on the steel. Bright orange is a dull red in sunlight, and bright light makes welding much harder. We will see how it goes though. -
What changes would you like to see for 2013/14?
Spots replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Hunting and Fishing
All mine have already been said, but here we go; 1. Coyotes day or night w/ Night vision devices allowed 2. Hogs back on the list 3. Turkey removed from big game, and higher bag limits. 4. Extend all deer seasons. They are way overpopulated, and are becoming more of a pest every year. -

I got the building semi boxed yesterday. Debating on whether to do 3 sides, or 4 for the winter, but I do know all but on side will be removable for summer use Built some hammer racks from horseshoes, still need to build about 10 more of these Some yard sale hammers waiting on my ass to get in gear so they can have a hook to hang on, and work to do. Some big boy hammers. The 8 lb short handled sledge is my big stock hammer when I'm working alone, and the 10 lb hammer is good for when I've got a striker working with me The forge build should be in the next couple weeks, definitely wanna have it rolling before Christmas. -
Turning them up on end to hammer on the cut end is dramatically better than hammering on the top of the rail or the base plate. More mass under the anvil = more efficient anvil and that means less shoulder pain! Teaches good hammer control too
I noticed this in the other thread. How do you have any useable space? My normal hammer is a 4 lb crosspein, or a 6 lb sledge, and while I have no issues with a small useable face, Ive never seen anyone use an anvil that is as small as, or smaller than the face, as it usually becomes a bottom fuller and leaves some fun lil dents and ripples. Just went down and did some looking, and while my big track is slightly bigger than the face of my 6 lb hammer, its just barely, and I have no idea how you would straighten and flatten out a blade like my normal bowies. Though I do understand having that amount of metal under the hammer to work better, I think I'll stick with making a "london pattern" style anvil like the smaller track, as I am used to having a normal horn and stuff, and prefer that style. I have seen several post anvils with a 3x3 or 4x4 face, about 16" long or longer, and they seem to work good, but there doesn't seem to be enough surface on track. Anyways some pics to go with this post, and I will definitely keep your idea in mind.
Anyone built a brake drum forge? I built my son a small propane forge last year and he loves it. Its not so much the policy they have in place, though I do disagree with it. I'm like maroonandwhite, its the fact that they fired him, even though he respected their rules right up until his actions possibly saved someones life. He should not have been fired for retreving a firearm, then using it in defense of another employee, as well as store merchandise.

I have an oil cloth duster that is in some desperate need of help. My wife can't stand the smell of oil cloth, and it got laid out on the backporch, for much longer than it should have. It has some faded spots on it now, but still seems structurally sound. I'm looking for a recommendation on where to take it, a member here to reproof it, or some recommendations on doing it myself. Winter is well on its way, and theres nothing like a long, waterproof duster for staying dry in horrible weather. Let me know if you guys have ever reproofed one, if you would wanna do it again for some cash, or if you know someone in East TN who does it. Thank you Jordan
