Sheriff David Clarke Issues 5-Word Challenge to Obama
Sam1 replied to Ron_TN's topic in General Chat
Nothing against Carson, he seems nice, but we also have a nice guy in there now on the opposite spectrum. We need someone with some fucking balls that will respond to our country's & our allies needs and back it up with some conviction, in legal, governance, and military aspects. He also doesn't like semi-auto weapons: -

No, but it reinforces the fact he is an academic and has no place in charge of the country. Need to be a jack of all trades, not a PhD board certified brain surgeon to run a country. We've already seen what an academic can do to it, just because they have opposing views doesn't mean it will be better. He lacks foreign policy and executive experience. -

Would never happen, Carson said cops should shoot at people's legs instead of their torso when in danger, to minimize the damage to the threats. It's obvious he has no clue and Clark wouldn't support a stance like that. -
Working in security/disaster recovery, I don't waste time duplicating onsite data (at home of course, business is different). You can have 10 backups, and if your house catches on fire, all 10 copies are still gone. Think cashplan is 50-60/year, once you install it, it defaults to back up new versions of files every 15 minutes and you never have to touch a thing. After the initial backup, you'll probably never notice the program is running again until you need to restore something and manually open it.

Go with Crashplan.com I have tried Carbonite, idrive and SOS. Carbonite was ok, but it only does like 10 or 12 versions of files iirc (versioning) idrive was a complete POS. When I installed it, it started consuming hundreds of gb of data backing up the same files over and over, when I switched to idrive, our monthly average data consumption was between 40-50GB (up until May) from May to June after installing idrive, it went up to 280GB June to July, then I switched back to Crashplan two weeks ago and data was 160GB for last month. This month it should be back down to 40-50GB. Idrive is terrible for not knowing what files have been uploaded and completely skipping over directories you want backed up. Big kicker, this is a small 240GB SSD drive with only 57GB of data I need backed up, so how I went through 280GB of backups in 4 weeks is still astounding to me - their software is shit. SOS was ok, I tried a few years back, not sure what the price was back then but it did alright. Crashplan does everything I want, including the option to backup one computer to another computer or a network drive 100% free (although I only use the cloud-based storage plan). It has unlimited versioning and has never let me down on any restore - have been able to pull up 5 or 6 different versions of a homework assignment from months prior and find the one I needed. I will never be switching from them again. That's from real dealings with the programs, not comparing specs online.

Some, not all. We were required to clean up the berms after gunnery with the tanks. Anything left on the trails while moving & shooting was not cleaned up. I think in Germany people would come in after we left and go pick up a lot of that stuff, the only rule was they had to turn in any live ammo.

Understand, won't argue. it's obvious you like them, and I'm super glad the military is getting rid of 'em.

Notice the chain laying on the hood? He got stuck about 10 yards before that and we pulled him out, hadn't even had time to get somewhere and put the chain up yet.

They come with the rail as an accessory, out of the box it has sights mounted on it. And yes it is pretty dumb to have the charging and re-cocking mechanisms near the barrel. The whole thing is a mess, that's why I got it.

Off-road our tanks would run over 40mph with the limiter and around 60mph without it on. The humvee's couldn't even drive 15 or 20mph through fields to run supplies back in forth. Every time someone says how awesome they are, I share this photo of my friend that got stuck in a few inches of mud. He was bringing us breakfast and couldn't even make it across an empty field. That new oshkosh has massive clearance, bigger tires, better power and I'm sure better 4wd. Going 70mph down a highway is irrelevant if you can't drive through a foot of mud off the road, because that's where it matters with the military. The humvee could still serve a purpose as like a mail truck or food truck or something on base, but they really suck when your life depends on supplies being able to get in and out to you in the field. Every deployment we done when it rained, we would end up towing humvee's out of the mud at least once a day... Now if you were injured and needed evac'd, would you rather have a humvee show up or a JLTV? I'll take the latter.

For personal use, yes. But in the military they were too small, got stuck everywhere and we're so slow off road they held up our convoys on a regular basis. Then you add 5000 pounds of armor on top of what they were designed to handle and it was like driving a hot mess.

It's not a debate, the crime scene photos are publicly available, although a lot are blacked out for privacy reasons. There's .223 casings all over the place, leading up to a jammed 10mm glock lying on the ground where he used it to put a bullet through his skull, the hat and brain matter residue still around the edge of the hole through the hat. Dude did not leave the rifle in the trunk.

Good riddance to that thing!

My grandma said many moons ago... "if you have to tell someone how smart you are, you're probably not".

If Macedonia is in the same shape it was when we left in 2001, Greece must be really bad. People were living in multiple story apartment buildings with the walls blown out with nothing more than a tarp tied on to keep someone from falling down multiple stories.

Doubled the speed at $300/month & you pay about $1,000 to get connected lol.

Directv's HD channels are outstanding, far superior to Comcast's, but I cannot speak to DIsh (haven't tried them). The price gouging/changes happen with every one of the providers, although I have learned a trick with Directv, I only watch HBO shows, the rest of the series on the other premium channels don't interest me. So... I have the cheap $49 package + HBO. Well, about every 3-6 months Directv runs a special where HBO is only $10/month so right before the deal ends, I call them up to cancel and they offer me the same deal again to keep it, and sometimes throw in some other free previews for 1-3 months hoping you forget to cancel and they start charging. I just set a notification on the calendar of when to call in and cancel and have been doing it for about 18 months now and never had an issue.

Google cellphone service, runs off of Sprint and Tmobile's network and wifi automatically switching, depending on which one has the best speed or coverage. Big kicker is they charge $20 for unlimited calls/texts (including international texts). The data is $10 per GB, if you sign up for the 2GB plan ($40 total) and you only use 700Mb, you would get a $13 refund for the unused data. And the data also works in 120 countries at the same cost, but is limited to 3G speeds. It sounds like a great deal on paper, just not sure on how it is in the wild.

I got hit pretty hard last week, was able to get it transferred before getting whacked a second time today. one more day of drops and I'm back in. if not, I'll wait until it steadies out for a week.

Finally got an invite to Project Fi, does anyone around Nashville use it? I'm on the edge about actually using it now because you have to buy a Nexus 6 for it to work on ($400 on ebay)... But having the option to get refunded for unused data would save me a lot on monthly billing (about $180/year at my current usage). If anyone else is on it, or plans to hop on it soon, please let me know if you run into any issues. Coverage is my primary concern.

I don't see this as a safety issue, I think this is more of an issue of them wanting to go through your bags to make sure you don't bring in a 50 cent bag of candy and you buy one from them for $8.00 instead. Same thing with drinks. Would almost guarantee that they have some think tank/group in the company trying to figure out a way to get more money, and lost sales due to people sneaking in food/beverages is high on the radar. That's where they make the most profit.

Thanks guys, it sounds like I did the right thing by taking a chainsaw to it instead of just using some hedge trimmer and knocking off the tips.
