  1. Was up at a friend's house out of state over the weekend and he had just moved in there, don't have connections to reliable gunsmiths in the area.   He has an old black powder gun that has been passed down through his family and is extremely important to him.  When he was cleaning it a while back, the tip broke off the rod and it is stuck a good ways down into the barrel, cloth still attached.  I brought it back with me, thinking surely someone knows a good person around Nashville, or even if I need to ship it somewhere else in the state to get it fixed.   He was open to the idea of getting a new barrel, but couldn't locate an identical replacement anywhere, and said for sentimental purposes, he would really just like to have this one fixed.   Does anyone have contact info of someone that may be able to look at it?  There's some info stamped on the barrel, I can post it and a pic later, maybe as a last resort someone could help us find a replacement.   The one thing I wasn't sure of is if a general machine shop could maybe drill through the cleaning tip and screw something in it to back it out with.  I'm just concerned about maintaining the integrity of the rifling.   Any info is appreciated.
  2. As you said, everybody's got their own thing, I just don't think the OP's question on CC's to build credit should have been turned into a pissing match about how everyone that uses a credit card or gets a loan is an idiot.
  3.   being debt free is awesome, never sad it wasn't.  Don't think anyone here will argue that point.  Using myself as an example on the CC thing, my CC sees anywhere between $40-$60k every year.  I'm not in debt over it because it is paid off every month (which means I pay 0% interest).  Technically, you could say I'm in debt about 2 weeks a month, I guess.  From that, I get free stuff.  Lots of it.  The credit card companies give these rewards programs for people that run their bills up and pay the interest, they don't like people that actually have control over their spending and never pay interest; in my case, they lose money by allowing me to use their card.   Another perfect example, two weeks ago when I bought a set of tires from that shop, there was a $60 rebate on top of the other rebates and discount, for simply using their store card.  I'm not in debt over it, already paid the bill.  But now I have a free $60 prepaid card on the way for simply using their card instead of paying cash.
  4.   Closing accounts, especially ones that are in the green, ding your score.
  5. In some aspects it does. Here's the chart from myfico.com on how it works:
  6. There is a version of Dave Ramsey that exists in the weight management world.. He goes a little something like this:
  7.   Bad info... dude is just starting out.  Pay cash for everything on a low(er) income and don't do anything to advance your credit score, then go try to buy a house 10 years down the road, with no credit history & a measly $10k in the bank... See how fast mortgage companies flock to give you money.   On the opposite side, you have a 5-10 year credit history with everything paid on time and $10k in the bank and your arm will be tired from throwing away the mailed spam trying to get you to sign up for a mortgage.   Credit cards are not a bad thing unless you have no control over yourself.  Since I switched to a chase southwest card, I've flown on 6 trips for 100% free, had free nights in rooms, and currently have enough points to go on 4 or 5 round trip flights sitting on the account now.  Cost?  $69/year for the card.  Interest? 0% if you pay it off every month.  Not sure why people are so anti-credit card.
  8. Yep, I like Ramsey but disagree with his anti credit card advice.
  9. We need to get the stupid out of school administration ASAP to have any hopes of children making it on their own.  At this rate, no child will be prepared to leave home until they're eligible to receive some type of government assistance.
  10. I'm going to get an estimate from an actual landscaping company to see what it'll run me.  Spoke with them on the phone at length, he said he would stop by in between one of his jobs this week and look at things to look things over, take some pics and draw up some designs.  if it's $1500 or less, think I'll do them, if not I'll probably tough it out and do it myself, although it may take another 7 years to finish.
  11. When someone mentioned hiring labor for a move in that moving thread, it got me thinking of how many things I'd rather be doing than this landscaping project that has been getting put off for 6 months now.   Question I have, is has anyone hired general labor from CL & had issues with them?  It's not a complex job, just menial work of cleaning up some stuff, dropping some weed block in, mulching and planting grass.  But my concern is hiring some shiesty dude or dudes that get out there on flat ground with a rake and claim they tripped over an imaginary rock, suffered a concussion and faces a lifetime to pain and suffering then decided to make a claim against me or the insurance.   Is this reason enough to stick with an an insured company or is it even a concern?  If there was a signed release form or whatever it's called, would that make a difference if the person made a claim?   Pondering the options because I need to get moving with something pretty quick and I despise any yard work above mowing/trimming.   Side note, anyone around Fairview want to make some extra $? lol
  12. Did the same - 72" with a Bose Cinemate in the movie room, but haven't even turned the thing on in nearly a year.
  13. It will take a while to them to see the hit.  People will have to show up the first time with stuff in their bags before deciding not to go the second time.     You would think that someone in the organization would be smart enough to know that people are going to go to one movie a year when it cost $50 for two people, instead of going to 4 or 5 movies when it cost $30.  I would much rather see some movies in the theater than on dvd, but when it cost $50 to watch something it's just not worth it.
  14. Yes, we knew this weeks ago as soon as they announced the policy.
  15. Well, it seems those tires I got were on closeout.  They called and said they were no longer available (after already paying for them of course).  Without even having to argue, they upgraded the tires to a better set for no charge.  & that kind of service is why they will always have my business.
  16. Approved.
  17. We ignored the paper surveys, didn't think anyone would actually come out... they will
  18. Royal Marine riding outside on the wing of an apache into a hot zone to find a fallen soldier from the previous night.  (from a few years ago, but still awesome)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=37&v=JWKm4MS8wzo
  19. We were about to be released from work when it happened, everyone was late watching it on TV, when we got out there the CO said we were probably going to war.  (not even been back a year from Macedonia/Bosnia)  Knowing the stuff was about to go down, we went out to get hammered.  By the time we got back a few hours later, they already had another company move their tanks out to the gates and block the road.  If anyone wanted to drive in, they had to go through a 70 ton tank and a million MP's patrolling the perimeter.   The next morning we were foaming at the mouth, within a couple of weeks we were begging to be deployed to Afghanistan... Months later they said "hey let's attack Iraq instead", orders came down for deployment so I said have fun, I'm going to school instead.  Many others followed because the political motives were so obvious it was discouraging.  We would have went to Afghanistan in a heartbeat, Iraq over politics... Not as interested.
  20. They must've hired a new marketing firm or something.  I like the way they're going:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-6dWsQMkDE   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2gcNfSbTP4
  21. We used all my sons moving company to get from Knoxville to Brentwood, then from Brentwood to Fairview.  Extremely reasonable on price, they took care of everything and didn't mess around.  The guys were worked hard and were respectful the both times.  If you do pay someone to move and they have a location near your place, consider them.   Not sure on the safe though, we didn't have one at the time of moving.   As for the process, they asked how many bedrooms, how many flights of stairs they have to deal with, how many big screens, dressers, dining tables etc... all the large stuff.  Guess that was so they could determine what size truck to use.  The move from Brentwood to Fairview estimate was $800, that included two workers box/load everything and unload where we wanted.  The guys worked so fast, they got done 2 hours early so they only charged $600~.   As cheap as it is to move, don't think I'll ever move anything myself again.  It would take at least week to pack everything up, then driving back and forth & renting a truck for the big stuff, then paying for labor like lumberjack, or getting friends to help and having to unpack and move everything again is just not worth the time.

  23. What makes it legit is that I only use Macs, but have a full understanding that their stuff is not groundbreaking. Was watching a video of the release this morning and hearing the crowd cheer over a stylus was comical. I expect a Southpark episode to cover it pretty soon.
  24.     There's a bunch of different types of them, I just ran a quick search on google patents and the one from 2008 requires multiple devices to detect touch (a bunch of other companies before then had similar applications for that all the way back to 2000) the Samsung one is a singular device.
  25. Ah I thought you were talking about air gestures, which apple sucks at.  So this 3d touch thing is what Samsung patented a year and a half ago? More court cases over patent wars, and in the end Apple will end up paying as usual.   I don't really watch the releases, just surf the web afterwords to mock their claims of inventing new things that exist years before they release.
