Oklahoma Highway Patrol - card scanners civil forfeiture onsite
Sam1 replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
100% on point. We've went full retard with our rights in this country. Now it's up to us to prove to law enforcement up front that we are not committing a crime we haven't been charged with? I guess they should be able to disarm us as well, and we can get the gun back later as long as we show up to court with a lawyer, and copy of the receipt for the gun. -
Wow http://www.news9.com/story/32188652/card-readers-used-by-ohp-causing-controversy Now they can pull your cards out of your wallet, scan your cards see the balance, confiscate the balance on site and then you have to prove it is your money in court if you want it back. And... just like the traffic camera scheme, the OHP is paying the company that makes the scanners 7.7% of the money confiscated.

A dissertation primarily does two things; it shows your ability to perform scholarly research and present it, and add something new to the existing body of knowledge. The consulting services are basically like a tutor, they help make sure each section meets the specific criteria, they can help with data analysis, APA reviews etc. They are not allowed to actually write anything for you. The specific consultant I found is a retired professor that has written SOPs for IRBs (review boards that approve research) and reviewed dissertations for schools he worked at. He also worked for NASA during the first moon landing which I thought was cool... So he's been around a day or two. That's the kind of experience you pay for. Some schools provide mentors for their phd students, mine does as well, but when someone is on the end of your checkbook, you don't have that feeling that they are doing you a favor (like an appointed mentor) and you can expect a certain level of service instead of hoping they are willing to contribute.

Can't do that at Capella... They make us have topic approval before doing the comps, but that is because they changed their program so that the topic can be used on the three comps so we don't waste time researching other random topics before moving to the dissertation phase. It works out for us in the end, just a bit rough getting started.

Thanks Bubba, I should be good for now. Found a small fry company that can cover what I need. The biggest concern I had was that most companies charge by the project/section of the work starting in the thousands of $... I can't bring myself to put $4k down for a single project based on internet reviews. This company charges by the hour and bills in 5 minute increments, said they don't worry about contracts or project price because they are good enough that people keep coming back. So I can punch out if they don't fulfill. Having no contracts to lock you down or crazy up front prices makes me think they are fairly competent. The school has some great professors, some good ones and some so-so ones as with any school. I need some continuity between that to get and keep me ahead of the expected schedule. It's in IT, the topic will be in the arena of the performance of specific governance mechanisms in strategic alignments (that's not that actual topic statement, just the general area). Basically researching the effects that different types (haven't decided which types yet) of governance have on organizational (not sure on population yet) performance. Or it may go into the performance strategic alignment strategies applied to government agencies as compared to private sector... Not sure yet, I don't need topic approval until January, but it would be nice if I walk into that meeting with my pimp hat and cane without stressing about approval because the work is already 2-3 months ahead of schedule.

Your sarcasm detector is busted. I despise Glocks for the sole reason that other people like them.

A few degrees to the left and the cop would have been cut.

Remember it's not hollywood. This thug with a knife is getting hammered with rounds and still closes in 25 feet or so before being stopped by the cop. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1f1_1465252375

Still have a ways to go to get there - that's why I need some assistance. Had a colloquium a few weeks ago with the professors and IRB, initial topic proposal was ok'd, but then the professor came back with concerns it will be difficult to put my own spin on the topic since it is one of the top three researched topics in all of IS/IT. I don't have to have school approval until January, but when January gets here, I want to be at the point past topic approval and be able to defend the specifics. This stuff is a pass/fail at 70, the topic proposal only got a 73... I don't like close calls.

There are a few of you on here hiding... I see you. Anyways, have any of you used a dissertation consultation service outside of your school? If so, would you mind to PM me?

We'll just say I do not look like Dennis Rodman

And you have to outdo me on the pic. You have a few days notice. We expect something better.

We seen the remnants of earth wind and fire last year and it was just as good of a show as you would have expected 30 years ago.

Yeah they do a better car search than what happens at most military bases - they have police on site to address any legal issues and nurses there to verify any medications that are being brought in. You can bring beer but no liquor. Most people put liquor in coke bottles or water bottles etc. to get it in, any illegal stuff they just carry on themselves because they don't search the person nor do they have any dogs there to sniff things out. When we went, the car in front of us had a huge prescription bottle of of something that the nurse took which caught my eye, so when I got there I showed her my heart meds & and asked what the deal was with the other car. The lady said they had a year's prescription worth of Xanax for their dog... and the dog wasn't with them. She said it was a ridiculous amount, so they confiscated instead of being denied access. For anyone that goes, take multiple cases of small bottles of water. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER AT THE REFILL STATIONS THERE. I filled up a bottle late one night there and the next day we looked at it and it had some nasty stuff in there. There are two perimeters; one gets you into the parking/camping area - they search your car. The second perimeter is where all the concerts happen, you have to do an individual search there - but, you are allowed to take sealed bottles of water through that point. The three of us would always carry a backpack and had 10-12 bottles of water each so we didn't have to buy that $4-5 water. We also had as much fun hanging out with people at their tents in the camping area as we did when we were inside at the concerts (met some really cool guys that came all the way from Scotland that were a hoot). Some really cool people are there; there are a lot of hippies, but not as many as you would think. It's primarily just normal people decompressing for a weekend. <edit> I think they allow people to take small amounts of liquor there, but unsure on the amount. People were telling us they had so much they had to sneak it in. We just took water & beer so no clue on the quantity limits.

not an excuse there, you would be amazed at how many older people set up camp and hang out. they don't run around crazy like the kids, but there's a ton of them outside the internal perimeter with straight up colonies built from tents and campers.

Went last year, it was a BLAST. are you staying there? we found it better to drive back and forth. If you arrive at 9am the day it starts, there was only a 5 minute wait to get the car searched and on the way to parking. Compared to the 8-10 hour backup down the interstate the night before from campers coming in.
