My problem with ERs: they are full of people without emergencies. I went when I cut my finger off and had to wait 3 hours because some pillheads were trying to get a fix. There was one legitimate case should have been in front of me (heart attack). And if it's not the pillheads, it is the people with no insurance whose kid has a sniffle and figure the only way to get them medical help is the ER. Weed out these two groups and my stay would have been 90 minutes total time.
Agree with this totally, one of my paramedic buddies said that they have now started putting people on a "watch list" or whatever it was called because those pillheads were calling 911 requesting ambulances for completely silly stuff. He said if they are on the list they get no pain meds at all, they'll treat the injuries but they're no long allowed to give them meds.

The old tektronix color wax printers were considered real vivid images for awhile, for ad proofs and such, but dunno if they are in the running anymore. They were expensive. That line of printers are still being made but under a different brand name which I can't recall at the moment.
They still have wax printers available, we've switched a few of the office printers over to them that do a lot of publications and other things that need to be higher quality. Photos and graphics on them are amazing but the Xerox machines that we use are pretty high dollar, I think even the smaller ones are pretty expensive. The wax blocks themselves are pretty cheap, but printers are way expensive over a color laser.

Thanks for the info everyone, we'll have to get around and see which of them is closest. I think we've seen St. Thomas around here somewhere, hopefully we never have to use anything again but we'll definitely have a better plan for next time

Got horrendously sick last night about 11pm, had stuff coming out of me that shouldn't be inside of a human. Don't much like going to the dr. but the wife laid down the law at about 3am and took me over to the ER since it was getting worse. Even though they weren't crowded, we sat there for nearly 90 minutes waiting. All I wanted was something to get rid of the nausea and to lay down. In between the 4-5 times I got sick there, finally we told them if they can't get me a bed I'm just going to lay out in the floor. They actually got a bit pissy and told me I wasn't allowed to lay down there.
After they finally got me into a room, I was so dehydrated it took 3 different people 6 tries to finally get an IV in so now it looks like I'm some failure of an addict with all of these holes and bruises in my arm. After another hour of being in the room, they finally gave me something for the nausea. Not sure what was going on from their end but that is insane to make anyone wait that long just to get some medicine.
We're in the Brentwood area of Nashville and just moved here last weekend so we have no idea where the other hospitals were at, and was hoping someone could point us in the direction of some others in case we need help late again some time. It may have just been a fluke and they don't normally operate like that, but I'd rather have something else lined up because for me to even go there is as a last resort, I can't sit around and wait for hours when that kind of stuff happens.

if you don't print off a lot of pictures just get a color laser printer. (like above) I had a Samsung ML-1740 (B&W only) for 3 years and it never used up the toner that came with the printer... total was $70, gave it to a friend in 2010 and she is still using the same toner. switched over to a dell color laser in 2010 and all the toners that came with it have at least 50% remaining. Think it only cost me $175 but can't remember exactly.
The color lasers work fantastic for everything except photographs, there are some available that will do nice photos, but they're pretty expensive. You can pick up color lasers for $100 or so now, but when you look at them take note of the cartridges and see how much the replacement remans or generics will cost. Some of them are as low as $20/each and some are over $100 each depending on the model

Growing old is a privilege, there are a lot of people who never get to do it so stop complaining

I wish I could say you were probably right, but these people are unwilling to work. You really think they are going to go out and do something for themselves or their kids? If so, you have a lot more faith in humanity than I do.
If they are so lazy that they would let their children starve, then they should not be allowed any rights over those children and they should be removed from the house. To support those children that have been removed, they should be assigned to jobs in community service and the money saved by them performing the tasks would be sent for support of the children. If they don't want to do that, they should be put in jail. And, we need a jail system like in Korea, if the inmate wants toilet paper, someone in their family pays for it, or they work. Same goes for any other supplies and I believe they even charge for electricity but don't quote me on that one.

The children will not starve, people will find a way to feed them... they do it everywhere in the world on a daily basis. granted they may not have hamburgers and fries every night, but the parents could easily grow some stuff, or cook rice/beans/cornbread or learn to hunt.
People are resourceful, but until you kick that crutch out, they have no reason to be.

That sounds great, but it just isn't possible. The problem is that some people can't work and we can't just let them starve in the streets.
Last year I had 27 broken bones with 9 major fractures and some of those were sticking out of my body, lost 40-50% of my blood, have over 10 pounds of metal rods, plates screws and hinges holding me together (xrays are crazy looking) 18 or 19 surgeries now... & was back at work in less than 60 days from the accident. Heck I was doing homework about 48 hours after they woke me up, and trying to do work from there but the boss wouldn't let me.
Sorry but I just don't buy the whole pity argument, if someone wants to do something, they will figure out a way. There is a one armed, one legged guy that races a motorcycle as fast as anyone with 4 limbs is, still can't figure out how he holds on having basically an entire side missing, but he sure as hell does it.

I think we should be like the Philippines where my wife is from... If you want to eat, you will work. If you want a house, you will work. If you want healthcare, you will work. etc..
There is such a small group of people with the sense of entitlement issue there because most of the people work their asses off, and the ones that don't are pretty much outcasts.

Some guys are taking advantage of the 'custom landmark' feature in most GPSs and have compiled a file with the location of all the stop light cameras and permanently fixed speed cameras in the US they can find. It gives a voice alarm when you're approaching the camera. I know the file is available (free) for Garmins, possibly others as well. I loaded the file in my Nuvi and so far it's been 100% accurate. But then again, there aren't a lot of either in Middle Tennessee.
That and the smart phone app called trapster and the new radar detectors are linked up to warn about them as well. My guess is that when technology passes the traps and there is no more revenue to be made, they will then ban any device that warns of an upcoming system.

Something else to worry about. Computer hacking of your phone for bad people to call police to your house to respond to violent crime.
Don't worry about it, that stuff is easy to track and it is covered under section VIII of the Patriot Act. Do it once get 5+ years, do it twice and it's 20+
Word will get around soon enough after a few of them wake up in prison for about 1500 days

A better analogy would be from the middle east, do I blame the government for allowing a woman to be stoned to death because her burqa rose above her ankles when started running down the side walk? Sorry, but your argument just doesn't hold up.
The fact that "more people die every year" has nothing to do with the posted speed limit and everything to do with the reckless drivers who think that the posted speed limit doesn't or shouldn't apply to them. They are also the ones who don't take into account that not everyone shares their belief and so leave themselves no time to react when they suddenly come upon someone who is driving the posted limit.
Actually it has a lot to do with it reason #1 would be that TDOT is supposed to audit the road and decide on what the speed is. The area over there seen the revenue stream increase, so they decreased the speed 2 times without any audit... The #'s are out and about, that road is a million $ investment for traffic violations and most people that go there are from out of state so they just pay the fines without going to court... Easy money. Also going a slower speed can give people a false sense of security that everything will be perfectly ok and nothing can happen, or that they have plenty of time to react. Reality is most of the accidents around there are at or below the speed limit.
Back home in KY the state police were fighting everyone and their brother when we got the speed limits raised to 70mph up from 65mph. No more accidents occurred than before they were raised, but revenue went down and after about a year of losing money, they started writing tickets for 5mph instead of the old 10mph cutoff point.
This stuff is 100% about revenue generation, if safety was the actual concern we would have fresh paint at every intersection, better signs and better signals.

So you are blaming the cameras for the increased accidents and not the people for breaking the law to begin with? For the record I have not seen anything indicating that the accidents have increased. They may have or they may have not. I'm not sure.

Excessive speeding IS reckless.
I disagree, most of these posted speed limits were put into place in the 60's-70's when a small car weighed 5000 pounds and went from 60-0 in half a mile and not 105 feet. Argument can be used on 129 up by the gap, they lowered the speed to 45 mph telling everyone it would save lives. They increased the ticket writing substantially and more people died. They said if we lower it to 35mph it will save lives, their ticket writing increased substantially again and more people die every year.

They said the same thing about Oak Ridge. And it hasn't made a difference. Everyone makes a big deal of these cameras and how it will ruin everything but when they're installed nothing changes. Don't speed and you won't have to worry.
hasn't there been more accidents in the vicinity of the cameras since their implementation though? I thought The local gov. had the right turn on red (rolling stop) cameras turned off because they were causing more accidents, even though they are sold to the public as a "safety feature". On top of that, the company that owns the equipment is in court suing the city because they are losing revenue since the city disabled that part of the cameras.
They are installed solely for revenue generation and some states have voted to ban them because they are causing more accidents... TN needs to be next on the banned list. If these were actually used to raise safety awareness, a private company wouldn't be involved and TDOT would own every system in the state.

We usually get our drinking water from that spring over near east town mall. It's free and much better than anything you can have delivered or buy in the store, and you can usually run into an old-timer there and have a good chat while refilling. One older guy probably in his late 70's was there one day and he was telling me how the local distillers used to bring a horse and buggy there to fill up the barrels when he was a kid.

Sort of on the topic of this, can any of you recommend a good family doctor anywhere around? Don't have any kids to deal with, it's just my wife and I. We were on the BCBS website and there are a blue million of them around, but word of mouth gets more credit than some anonymous vague review on google.
