1.
You're mistaken about unions having to answer to its rank and file. They don't answer to anyone. They just take money. Maybe fifty-sixty years ago, but not nowadays. I'm in one, I know firsthand.
And I was as well for 6 years, we held their feet to the fire and during the annual elections we replaced the ones that were doing dumb things. Especially when they started causing issues to justify their own existence.
2.
Personally, my butt wouldn't have striked in the first place. 8% paycut isn't too bad vs getting paid nothing.
Exactly, the unions have to answer to its people, but they also have access to the financials of the company. If they decided to strike out of emotion instead of making an informed decision on the data, then chalk this up to an important and very expensive lesson learned.
3.
'Big Money' is required for research? And define 'big money'? If by that you mean government research grants, you are dead wrong. Most useful medical advances come from private companies funded by investors, as well as from small companies started by someone who has an idea. If by 'big money' you mean a large investment, you are mostly correct. New drugs, medical procedures, and medical devices require a large investment of capital to get through the FDA approval process. But when that capital comes from private sources, there is a greater incentive to make sure that the research proves fruitful. When our tax money is used, the primary concern is whether the results meet some political goal.
By big money I meant investments, that's why I think if profits are removed, there isn't much enticement for these people to continue on with what they're doing now.
4.
Make sure you point your finger at the right place when people get angry. Even the Teamsters union wanted to accept a deal to keep their jobs. It was the rank and file and the local leadership who rejected it. They made their bed, and get to sleep in it.
If the unions wanted to accept a deal for a strike, then that means they started a strike in the first place. The management could've let them step into this mess, and even if that is so, it's the union's fault for not having the correct information from the beginning.
5. The good news is that stockpiles of twinkies will not expire until 2037, so we may be good without them for a few years.
6. I have mixed feelings about this... Without big money in these things, there will not be the same level of research in it. But I also personally know what it's like to see $600,000.00 worth of medical bills including an $8000 titanium rod, or a $12,000 steel hinge, or $400 screws that look like a 35 cent wood screw you get at Home Depot. Everyone wants cheaper medical coverage, but I can assure you that when you're on the table, you don't care about costs, your only concern is that the technology exists to help you. Some places may be able to perform functions that have been discovered by the hospitals and research centers, but when those places start losing money, there is little motivation to continue investing resources in research. An argument can be made that some medical professionals don't do it for the money and while that is true, it is a very small number.
7. Am guessing most people (myself included) have no idea what this was even about.... But you're given the powers to address issues, and don't think you need to justify your decisions.
8. Does anyone know if the IDF Facebook page is actually ran by them? If so and they posted this: You sure wouldn't see that kind of bluntness around here!
9.
Blah, 8th mile is boring. Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Only if you have a slow car
10. I can see that, mailhandler's copays are only $60/biweekly FOR AN ENTIRE FAMILY! The gov share of that is over $700/month... So from just one basic plan, it costs the post office over $9000 per plan, per year on a family plan. The post office's share of the standard family plan is over $1000/month Doesn't take very long to get to $1bil when you offer plans like that.
11. Just out of curiosity, are people really paying spot + $6 for silver? That just seems what you may be able to fish a couple of people for that don't know what they're doing, while spot + $3 is still on the high side. Asking seriously, not trying to knock the pricing because I'm all for people making money - just never known anyone to pay that much before.
12. They are worth every penny. Got a set of lineman boots for wildland firefighting, wore them for about 3-4 years and they still have a good 75% of life left in them.
13. Actually a lot of diesels produce less emissions than hybrids do on the highway.. It's just that a few of the green people seen black smoke coming out of a semi truck back in 1984 and since that point in time, diesels can do nothing to change their minds.
14. News said they intercepted 13 out of 13 inbound missiles last night as well. Also very impressive Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
15. Thing was so accurate, the munitions hit dead center of the car in the back seat. You can see the hole on this video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-20334575

17. Can I lay claim to the Peter Woll book? Think it would be perfect for the wife to get an idea of how our system works Would be more than happy to pass it to the next person as soon as she's done if someone else wants it.
18.
Did you see a couple of years back when the news reported that his average electricity bill at his one home in Brentwood was several thousand a month? Hypocrite?
Forget that, one trip in his private jet creates more pollution than 1,000 of the Prius' he tells everyone to buy, in their entire usable life
19. Sam1

got laid off

Was just doing a search and it looks like the VA and FBI have openings in Memphis, one in forensics and one in networking. Air force and navy also have positions open there but you need to be a member of the guard. they're listed on usajobs
20. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/14/texas-lawmakers-ndaa-tsa_n_2130359.html Seems like we have a trend of states stepping back from relinquishing all things to the fed.
21. That sounds good, may have to try that one
22. Just seen someone post this on another forum, tried it out and I got 3 out of 20 and just gave up http://picktheperp.com/ It is a little entertaining though
23. Here's one to make for dinner not as an actual holiday meal but one for the season that is quick and good: Pork Tenderloin in Cranberry Sauce - Ingredients 1-1.5 lbs pork tenderloin (1.5 T butter, divided) (1 t rosemary, 1 T balsamic vinegar) 1/2 c chopped onion 1/2 c chicken broth 1/2 c whole berry cranberry sauce (Salt & pepper) Melt 1 T butter in ovenproof skillet. Sear pork on all sides about 2 minutes. Place skillet with pork in oven and roast at 450° until pork reaches 160°, about 25-30 min. Melt remaining butter in another skillet. Add onion and rosemary. Sauté 3 minutes. Add broth, cranberry sauce and vinegar. Whisk until cranberry sauce melts. Transfer pork to platter and pour juices into cranberry mixture. Boil until sauce will coat a spoon, about 6 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Slice pork & serve with sauce. Here's a pic, this is a little bit heavy with the sauce though cause I like it to be sweeter
