  1. Keep in mind that SOME of their rifles use 7.62 x 39. The PTR 32 Series does use 7.62 x 39, but not the PTR 91 (uses 7.62 x 51), which is the model you were asking about in your opening. I am just reiterating the difference because of the thread you posted the other day where you were asking about interchangability between 39 and 51. They are totally different, the bullet isn't even the same diameter. 39 bullets are .311 inches in diameter, and x51 are .308 inches in diameter. If you somehow got a 51 to fire in a 39 gun, it would blow up. If you somehow got a 39 to fire in a 51, it probably woudn't blow up, but you would ruin the barrel/chamber nonetheless. The PTR rifles with the big banana clips (very curved) are x39...the ones that are pretty straight are x51. Again, you may realize this because of the other thread, but I just want to make sure you are safe!
  2. I have read good things about them, but I have never shot one. Optic choices/mounting may be a little problematic as they don't have picatinny rails IIRC. Instead, they use a claw mount.
  3. Buy a blackout barrel, and swap it out with a 5.56 barrel on an upper...you now have a 300 BLK. I know some are not comfortable building an upper, but it is silly to pay any more for a 300 BLK upper than a 5.56 upper when the ONLY difference is the barrel. Any local shop with a gunsmith should be able to assemble one for you with minimal fuss/cost.
  4. The Winchester 94 Trapper from 10 to 20 years ago is awesome (not the new one with the brass). I had one in 44 Mag, that I sold to a buddy who needed a brush gun in Utah. It was fantastic, but I sold it wanting to get the 357, but never could find one. I saw one at a show in Knoxville last year and offered $650 for it, but the dealer wouldn't sell it because he had just taken it on trade and wasn't sure what it was worth.
  5. By "endgame", I was thinking in terms of character mortality (and morality), rather than wrapping up the series.
  6. Falling Skies is defeintely better this season than last. I am enjoying it. #### is starting to pick up in it. Breaking Bad's Season Premier last night was really good. It is my favorite show, and this looks to be the endgame to the story. It is going to get very ugly. Also, don't forget, Hell on Wheels starts back up before TWD too...it is FANTASTIC! Lots of gun play...very gritty. I love it. AMC shows are superb...if you haven't watched this show, I urge you to give it a shot. TWD is definitely in my top 5 shows, but too many of the characters...especially Lori...just make me want to turn it off. I hope they follow the comic plot in regards to her. Either way, I do look forward to it.
  7. Well, technically they aren't cut into the barrel, but rather the barrel extension...a minor detail since almost all barrels come with the extension, but perhaps worth mentioning for future reference. That sucks about the BCG. I bought 2 from BCM last month...glad I got em when I did!
  8. Ok, gotcha. I had originally posted that they have feed ramps, but after that he asked if they were extended, hence the confusion. EDIT: Yeah, I have heard that COLT created the feed ramps so they could hold onto the patent or gov contracts longer. Not sure if that is true.
  9. I am very familiar with M4 Feedramps. I am just not familiar with the difference between an "EXTENDED" M4 feed ramp vs a regular M4 Feed Ramp (if there is even such a thing). My comment about snake oil is that I don't think they are really necessary. If your Upper Rec does not have them, but the barrel ext does, then you are fine, but if you go the other way around you will have jams. How about this...for simplicity's sake...if your receiver has feed ramps, your barrel extension had better as well. Any other combo works. The question asked me was if the BCM upper had "extended" M4 Feedramps...which I do not know...but I do know from experience that it DOES have feed ramps.
  10. No doubt. It was my whole tax refund...but worth every penny. I will sell every gun I have before I let that one go.
  11. You can get the CLEO sign of in the Sheriff's office at the City-County Building Downtown. The Sheriff's office is on the ground floor, center of the building. You can give the forms to his secretary, (she is right in the front of the office at the front door) who will have him sign them. I forget her name, but she is really nice and helpful. You will likely need to leave them for a day or two. If you take her a self-addressed and stamped envelope, they will mail the forms back to you. You can even mail them in if you wish, just call the Sheriff's office for the address and process, but I think it is the addy right a the top of the following link. http://www.knoxsheriff.org/departments/index.php .
  12. I have seen DPMS AR-10's and RRA AR-10's at the local shows for right around $1000. I believe both guns to be quality pieces from what I have read, but I have heard more good about teh DPMS. I was about to buy one when I got the SCAR bug. http://www.impactguns.com/dpms-panther-lr-308-classic-rflr-c-884451000167.aspx --This is the full sized DPMS, but I have seen the carbine models for about the same price.
  13. I think you are right...but how much Red State debt comes from Federally Mandated Social Spending? I would suspect a big ole hunk of it.
  14. Welcome to the board!. A BIG "NO". For the most part, in any semi-auto battle rifle chambered for 308 or 7.62 x 51/NATO (7.62 NATO is another name for 7.62 x 51), either is fine. BUT 7.62 x "anything else" cannot be used. They are totally different cartridges. There are MANY 7.62 x "Something elses" out there...so be aware that you will ONLY use "NATO" or "x 51"...or 308, of course. I don't know what you are calling a "high-end" AR-10, but I see good ones all the time for $900-1200, and I would prefer one of them over an M1A for what you are talking about. I have had a full sized M1A and the Socom model, and LOVED them both. But you can get a good AR-10 AND Optic for the price of an M1A. M1A's are much more limited as far as any customization you may want to do as well, and heavy...but they are excellent guns IMO and can serve you well. I now have a FN SCAR 17...and HOLY CRAP...I am in love. The price is up there with the high end AR-10's...but this thing is in a different league. Good luck with your purchase! Edited for welcome!
  15. An intersesting scenario would be if it were a regional succession effort. Highly unlikely and equally unnecessary. TMF is correct, any single or small number of states would be immediately crushed, which is outrageous, but a fact. However, if a larger group of Red States went rogue...it would be interesting. Not for the obvious reasons, but if they held out, starving the Blue states of the Federal Tax Dollars they need to maintain their massive debt (yes, Red states have debt too...but nowhere near the levels of the combined dozen or so Blue states). What would happen? Could the Fed print enough money to keep the "Blue" Heavy Union from imploding? Could the ecomony survive the amount of printing that would be necessary? Would the US Gov be willing to bargain with the rogue Red States to bring them back into the fold peacably for nothing else than than saving the economy?
  16. I do not know if the BCM uppers are extended M4 feed ramps or not. Feed ramps seem like snake oil to me, so I didn't pay too close attention to that part, but they def have feed ramps...and they are complete and in stock for $80. In fact...I am stunned you haven't ordered one already. If you are going to shoot the gun, at all...you are going to scuff it up to a greater degree than the blemishes will show.
  17. I have one on an LCP and carry it daily. Depending on how your pants fit, it sits up and out from under your ass, so that you are not actually sitting on the gun. I guess if you had low cut jeans like a chick, you may actually sit on it, but being a man, I like to pull my pants up. When you do this, your pocket is tight and cloth doesn't make contact with the trigger. I have shot with it on the gun and have no trouble with it. I have tried a front pocket holster, but having a lump that big in my front pocket is uncomfortable, and much more noticable. I have carried mine for more than a year, same make and model as the one pictured. Bought it in Oak Ridge for $30 even. If you use the finger-flange floor plate, it pins the gun in the piece so that it can't slip out. Removing the gun from your pocket is where you have to be careful, however, the gun and ammo doesn't weigh enough to pull the trigger...but I could see a freak scenario happening, so practice is needed. It is certainly safer to draw from than a Serpa!
  18. http://www.bravocomp...er -m4 demo.htm I have used several of these. They are complete. You just have to put them together, which takes about 5 minutes, and is easy. The "blemishes" are so minor you may not notice...often a small scratch in the coating in betweem rail bump. In any case, no matter the blemish, it will be minor and not hurt the effectiveness of the piece in any way. EDIT: I should mention they have M4 Feedramps.
  19. I believe you are correct...but what worries me is not that they will break their Oath, but how they interpret what "uphold the constitution" means. So many people disagree on what the consitution says. If there were to be a civil war...it wouldn't be the side that wants to throw out the consitution vs the side that wants to uphold it...both sides will believe they are upholding it.
  20. If you like Russian Zombie Whathaveyou's, then this may be up your alley. I am sure it has been posted here before, but it worth it again.
  21. Wow...I can't even see the pics because of work firewall, and I am all squeamish just reading about it. Take care of that thing!
  22. None are as creepy as the "Falling Skies" aliens.
  23. I fear big cities, so I wouldn't be in Atlanta. If I was somehow teleported there against my will I would probably be looking for whatever rifle was nearby. I would hunker down and let the yahoos do the work. Rednecks will take a terrible toll on Zombies. http://www.cracked.c...quickly_p7.html They will also take a toll on each other, and everyone else. Now if I were here (knoxville) when the dead stood up, and had access to my gear, my rifle would be my 300 BLK AR with my 30 Cal can. I have several hundred rounds of subs and supers, and I can fire either from a standard AR mag without making any changes to the gun. I would also carry a 16" 5.56 barrel and wrench in my bag, so that if I ever ran out of ammo, I can switch barrels and roll with any 223 I might find. I would tote the 22 conversion kit too. For Knife, probably a machete or ghurka. I have both. I fancy the Gerber LMF 2 I have as well. Of course, if you are going to carry an AR, wouldn't be a bad choice to go with a M7 bayonet or something similar.
  24. Jwolf, I think you were wise for practicing. You at least learned about your kit, and you were thinking about it. As for the whole land ownership part, I have a lot of land back in the hills, I mean seriously, but I don't live there. If the SHTF, I doubt my land deed will mean #### to whatever band of looters rolls up, and if can't get there first and set up defenses, then I don't think it can do me a lot of good. For that matter, even if I already had it set up with a cabin, machine gun nest, trip wires, etc...it would already be game for thieving even NOW when the #### is safely in tact. If I can't live there with it, I can't protect it from theft. My point is, even if you owned land now, and prepped it and practiced on it...if you didn't live on it in the good times, it probably won't do you any good in the bad times. You'll likely need a small army and some gumption to get it back from the people that beat you to it. At that point, all the deed means is that you can at least feel good about killing to take back what is yours. But in reality, it won't be any different than taking land that belongs to someone else. I hope I'm wrong...but I fear there will be only wolves and sheep..no sheepdogs.
  25. Man, I try not me a grammar hawk either, but with so many mis-pellings and no puncutation, this has been painful...like trying to read middle english or something. Whenever he used "jest" I thought he meant they were developing the product "in jest" or as a joke. I too look forward to hearing how it works. I like it when the market comes up with new shooting toys, even if I have no use for them.
