  1. I grew up in the hills of Caryville (Campbell County) saying "y'uns", but as I got older and moved to Knoxville (only 20 miles away!) I have switched to y'all. The best is the second person possesive from the hills, "Your'n". For instance, "is that dog over there your'n? A contraction of "your one". If I am not mistaken, the dialect often used in the mountains is very close to Elizibethan Era English. When I was in school at UT, the English Department would have visiting linguists from Scotland and England that came to study the hillbillies because it was like a time-machine for them to their own heritage. Too, the Scottish are big into mullets. The culture is being lost now because of satellite TV and The Jersey Shore.
  2. I sent my check in March and it hasn't been cashed yet. How's that for suck. Yes, I called and they have it.
  3. Hope you enjoy it Rusty. As Walt tells his class...it is all about change.
  4. For those of you that watched it last night...OMG. Brutal.
  5. I have looked online, but am getting conflicting info. I have read that the the requirement to be age 21 or older only applies to purchases from FFL's, and that a private sale of a handgun CAN occur legally to a 20 year old, but in other places I just see the standard "must be 21 years old to purchase". Anyone have a definitive on this?
  6. Ok, Googled and I think I know the answer, but wanted to post up and make sure. If someone out of state wants to buy a gun from me (I am not a dealer), I can ship it via UPS to an FFL in their state (Texas), correct? If so, my next question is this: How do I make use of the FFL? Meaning, is there anyway I can verify they are a real FFL? Any help is appreciated.
  7. I work with a guy who has been trying to get his record expunged. IIRC, he shoplifted a wallet when he was a teenager which turned out to be much more expensive than he thought, which madmaking it grand theft. He is in his mid 30's now and wants a gun for protection, but supposedly the expungement is difficult to do--meaning not necessarily getting the agreement to have it done, but the techncality of getting out of the automated systems that block transactions. It seems to be a "computer" related problem he is having. Hats off to him though, he will not go to the secondary market for a gun. He will only buy it legally from a gun store. As for tattoos, The tattoo that someone may have (ie the style, the quality, the location) speaks alot about how they want to appear to others, and more importantly, what kind of decision making ability they have. I mean if you go in to interview for a job wearing flip-flops and a tank top, you will likley not get the position because it shows a general lack of professionalism and poor decision making. A tasteless or inappropriate tat will do the same. I do not have any, but I have no problem with them unless they are dumb. I don't assume someone with a bad tat is a bad person, but maybe they make bad or hasty descisions, so I wouldn't sell one a gun. My wife got a tramp stamp when we first started dating. I warned her she would regret it...guess who was right. Now she is a 1st grade teacher in her mid 30's with a stamp. As the saying goes, though. I love a girl with a tattoo! It shows she is willing to go through with something she knows she will regret for the rest of her life!
  8. Not sure if this is taboo, but using search function turned up no luck. Did you all now you cannot advertise AR-15's on BM anymore? I have sold several over the years, the last was about 6 months ago there. But my most recent add was rejected. I called them to ask them why, and they said that it has always been their policy to dis-allow the listing of "Automatic Assault Weapons". I tried to argue the Semi-Auto point, but it went nowhere. I called back and got another operator, who gave me the same lines. I wonder if this is something new, in spite of thier line about it having "always been the policy".
  9. The only point that I will add is that it is naive for anyone to believe that a country comprised of people who will strap explosives to themselves--and their children--are really deterred by a concept such as MAD. Points of debate should be based ONLY on their ability to strike as we have no way to accurately assess thier willingness. I realize the hypocries of their leaders who never wear a suicide vest themselves. But one could argue that both Saddam and OBL strapped on the "proverbial vest", because they knew what their ultimate outcome would likely be. These people have no concern for the "Earthly" consequences of their actions.
  10. I have never heard of trouble getting a CLEO sign off there. I am from there, but actually used the Lake City Cheif of Police when I did mine years ago. Not sure how or why it worked, but it did. The nearest dealer I know of is Brad at Long Range Precision in Andersonville. He is nearly across the lake from you, very near Big Ridge State Park.
  11. I have never had luck with spotting scopes at that price. As a "cheapie" I bought this one last week and it came yesterday. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/242404/konus-spotting-scope-20-60x-100mm-with-photo-adapter-and-soft-case-armored-green It was on sale for $290 in July. I haven't gone to the range yet, but was looking through it at 400 yards yesterday, and was impressed with the clarity. I think it will work well. There is an 80mm version for about $200 that has good reviews.
  12. Are these too big for pocket carry?
  13. I was rooting for the machines in The Matrix Trilogy. Everytime they showed Zion, I just thought "Man, that place must really stink."
  14. A 10mm would have vaporized him, and a good deal of the front corner of the theater. In all seriousness, I would have had a LCP on me in a summertime theatre...not sure how much use it would have been. I would have only been sitting near him in that portion of the theatre if I'd had to be...likely would have been dead center of the theatre. I am not sure I could have done much given that and my sidearm. A non-bullet proof vest that had loaded mags in it would likey have stopped any of my fire. EDIT: wanted to add that I spelled "threatre" that way to bring some elegance to the discussion.
  15. Apparently it was only the stripped lower he printed, but that is still pretty awesome.
  16. I bought 2 from a dealer the same day, and there was no special form as I recall.
  17. Happily, I am corrected! That is a strong deal on a "take apart" F/A rifle can! I was thinking you'd have to get into to titanium for something like that, and they can be pricey IIRC.
  18. The problem is that cans suitable for full power rifles are usually welded shut, meaning you can't clean them...which you will need to do if you shoot much 22. There ARE take apart rifle cans, but they typically are much more expensive...like maybe double the cost. Hopefully others will correct me if I am wrong. I am not familiar with all the cans out there, and there maybe models of which I am unware.
  19. I wonder, if you could load a hot BLK with a Tok bullet and get enough pressure to cycle an AR?
  20. Hey Lester, I don't think Trayvon was looking for trouble at all. I think he just got agitated that he thought he was being followed and took action. I think Z was on the lookout for trouble, because of recent home invasions in the neighborhood, but I don't think he was trying to instigate anything...he was just trying to keep an eye on the guy til the cops got there, and when they told him "we don't need you to do that" he went around where he thought Trayvon was heading to get the street address for the police (because he was behind the houses and couldn't see the numbers on the houses). That is all I am saying in all of this. I do believe this was a tragedy, and I don't believe either man deserved their fate.
