Assuming you can find one, there are a lot of great 308 semis out there. If I didn't have the SCAR 17 I would look for an AR10 style (maybe a DPMS since prices are going so high) or a SIG 716. After that I would probably look for an M1A, FAL, or CETME/HK Variant. I would also consider a Keltec RFB. Of all those though, you are probably most likely to find an FAL or CETME at this point. Don't they make VEPR's in 308? That could be interesting. It is not going to be in the same class in terms of accuracy as a SCAR, AR10, or M1A, but it will probably do as well as an FAL. The only 308 semis I have ever owned are an M1A, M1A SOCOM, and now the SCAR 17, so I have no first hand experience with the others. Well, I did own a CETME for about a day once, but didn't get it to the range before someone offered me more than I could pass up. My Aunt had a Browning BAR BOSS in 308 that was awesome that I shot a few times. Not at all tacticool, but a hell of a rifle nonetheless. I also sited in a REPR for a fellow one day. it was a great rifle, but I wouldn't take it over a SCAR.

Free trigger kits. And the winners are......

667 - The neighbor of the beast. The kits are great, and they work on select fire lowers as well...registered, of course. -
NBC David Gregory Violates Federal Gun Laws Live On TV

Had the magazine been in Wayne's hand, DC SWAT would have rappelled into the studio, forced him to the ground, and shot his dog. -
I really like my PPS. The fact it has an accessory rail and the Shield doesn't is what pushed me in that direction.

Someone will come in there and tell you that there are dramatic differences in the brands you've mentioned, and then they will poop on any given brand while celebrating another. I would say that if you want a Left Handed AR, then all other concerns are secondary. Their quality is going to be close enough to RR that it shouldn't enter into the equation. I don't own one, but I hear they are a quality item.

What time tomorrow is the world supposed to end?
atlas3025 replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
They saw the Galatic Alignment coming...which is pretty bad ass because it only happens once every 13000 years. The Alignment is at 6AM eastern, tomorrow morning. And they never said the world was going to end. They just end their calendar on the day of the alignment. -
I know lots of people are looking for BCG's. RGuns appears to have them in stock for $115. I don't know a whole lot about their quality, but it may be worth checking out if you are in need. http://www.rguns.net/gunparts/rifle-parts-AR-uppercomponents-OperatingSystemComponents.shtml

How have you reacted personally? Bought guns? Mags? Ammo?

My concern is a gigantic tax increase on ammo. -

As soon as the news came in Friday morning, I ordered 15 PMAGs at $10 each, 3 AK mags for $9 each, another Glock 20 Mag for $25, and 2 Beretta 92 mags for $12 each, and free shipping on all of it! So I didn't pay a markup on any of them. I feel pretty good about that. Also picked up 1000 rounds of PMC Bronze 223 for $375 in Clinton. I may have paid a little too much for those, but they are reloadable. I ordered a Black Friday M4 from PSA for $399 (minus BCG, but I had an extra on hand) the day after thanksgiving, and it came last night. So it feels like I bought a panic gun, but didn't. Hard to beat a chrome lined AR for $550 invested. Anyway, I got in on the crazy buying early, so thankfully avoided the rising prices. -
+1...but more than that, they won't do the crap where they say you can have only 2 evil features (pistol grip, shoulder thing that goes up, detachable clip, grenade launcher, flash hider, bayonet lug, etc). A lot of guns got around this by removing the bayonet lugs, flash hiders, and shoulder things that go up. They banned several guns by name. They wouldn't do that this time. They will ban any semi-auto with a detachable magazine, or something like that. They will also likely pass an absurd tax on ammo.

Very nice rifle! Congratulations!

All the Civvie versions are made in Belgium. The Full-Auto Mil versions are made in South Carolina. Flat Dark Earth is the popular color, because its Flat Dark Earth, but they don't typically command much of a premium over black. T&T is the name of the outfit that comes to the Knoxville Shows that usually has a couple, but I am not sure what area of TN they are based out of.

The optic thing is a myth. The trouble was with eotechs with longitudinal battery mounts. The batteries would lose contact, but they didn't break. Problem fixed with transverse mounts. There were rumors of trouble with the early spectre DR's and their throw levers holding zero when changing magnification, but elcan addressed it. Rumored to be a qc issue at raytheon. I ran a konus on mine for 500 rounds and it never missed a beat. Its a $150 scope! I run either a Vortex viper HD or aimpoint compM4 now with no issue.

I found mags on gunbroker back in feb when they were hard to find for $50 each. They are starting to catch up now, but this most recent run will hurt. Palmetto had some yesterday. People sell them on fnforum.net. You can convert fal mags to work with a dremmel, and they are still dirt cheap. The scar17 forum on fnforum.net tends to update with info a lot.

I regret that I am not at the range shooting it right now. I'd punch my mother in the face before I'd sell it.

Yeah, they can be tough to find. I believe it is Volunteer that always has them at the Knoxville Gun Shows? The table with the pretty blonde. They usually run $3k. I am not sure where they are based, Nashville maybe?

It is also worth noting that as rifles go, it is low powered, and isn't punishing to fire. Even small framed women and children can shoot it well because the recoil is so minimal. It is NOT a "high powered killing machine" that so many in the media has dubbed it. It is deadly, but any weapon can be. It is constantly debated whether the cartridge used in the Ar15 (.223 or 5.56 NATO) is an effective "manstopper", and there are continuous attempts to improve upon it as it is widely considered a marginal performer at best. The 30-06 (thirty aught six) deer rifle that grand-daddy has in his closet generates more than twice the energy of the .223. Good luck with your story!

The Oak Ridge Walmart Sporting Goods Clerk told me today that they pulled the AR's out of the case because that section of the case had a broken lock, but that he could go look in the back and see what was left. He said he thougth they had one left.

Well, I have met a lot of Americans who didn't know there was an American Revolution, so I wouldn't take a lot of comfort from that.

In all seriousness...they will have to use surgery to get the smile off. The trigger can be improved a great deal in a few minutes with some high grit sand paper. Don't let the trigger stop you. The gun is capable or sub-MOA accuracy with about any decent factory ammo ( I shoot 1.5 with Tula! It is pricey, but if you ever want one, now may be the time to get it. If the fears turn out to be true, it may be your last chance. The price spikes will hit them later than AR types because they are higher prices already, so most buyers won't look at them anyway. I only paid $2500 for mine back in Feb, but I would still want it at $3k, no question.
-
I wouldn't do it. They will have to surgically remove the smile from your face. When others are telling you about their children, you will counter with stories about your SCAR.

You could have gotten a chrome lined M4 from PSA for $399 minus BCG and charging handle (blem lower, full LPK with stock, M4 Chrome lined upper) on Black Friday, and that was AFTER there was a buying frenzy. Just to note the "mood" of the country. My in-laws, who are Obama voters (yeah, I love them anyway) and have always been VERY nervous about guns, went and bought a Beretta 92FS and 38 snubbie two weeks ago, which was before even the Clackamas Mall Shooting. I was stunned when they asked me what I thought of their purchases. Both their daughters married gun nuts, so maybe they are just coming around, but I think the sense a change in the country. I have heard an awful lot about first time gun shoppers since the election. In fairness, I don't know if they voted Obama this time, but they did in 08. My mother-in-law still praises Jimma Carter.

I am not suggesting guards with M4's. I am suggesting that CC be allowed on campuses. Perhaps that would create a little doubt in a perp's mind that he would get to go on a rampage scott free.
